General Discussion / Re: rain gutter strips?

Their on my car, got a NOS set at Carlisle.  B**ch to install without the correct tool.  I've seen them in both black & Chrome, but Chrome is correct for Camaros.  They do not come with any of the repop kits but you still see them eBay every now and again...but their pricey like everything else on there.

Yeah, somethings not right!  Thats with them tight to the manifolds?  Pretty sure Kenny is the owner.  I know him from seeing him at local swap meets and been buying stuff from him for years.  He's a very cool guy and pretty easy to work with.

I had Pauls Chrome do them (very bad experience with a lot of the stuff I sent) and when they came back they were all wavy, squares in center were not square any more, looked like they were plastic and you put them in the oven.  Called them on it and they told me they well that's just how they come out!  They actually had me send them back, bought a set of repops, and re-chromed them and sent those back...and they still looked like crap, and still would not refund any of my money.  You don't want to get me started with my experience with them!!!!

Not to my knowledge but again, it is only used on vinyl roof cars, 67-8 only.

Hi,
No experience with Pypes exhaust but to answer your last question, yes, Big Blocks have the same exit format on stock manifolds.  L/S pipe will have a 90 & R/S pipe will have a 45.  I'd call them (pypes) directly and discuss.  Offer to send pictures too!  Had a problem kinda like that with a set of Thorley Headers for my truck & pictures was the only way to resolve.  Be aware though too if your engine & trans mounts are shot, the whole assembly will sit lower in the frame and bring the pipes closer to the ground.  Ground Up is a reputable company, any issues ask for Kenny!  Good Luck!

Do not bother getting the originals re-chromed, first hand experience.  D&R repops (hugger) were the nicest I found (I bought them all!) but still not up to show standard in my opion so I ended up buying a really really nice original RH and re-finishing the paint to mach a NOS LH (909)  Even the NOS ones aren't perfect so guess it all depends on what your after but nothing fits like GM.  Of course you could always get 2 909's, cut off the drain & 2 center studs go that route too.  Good Luck & happy New Year!

I totally agree, we learn from all the survivor cars out there but no one knows for sure how EVERY car came off the line and if by some rare chance I am the proud owner of the ONLY Sequoia Green Camaro that left the factory with a body colored firewall and I go and paint it black because that's how the manual said it should be done, what good does that bring the hobby?  I'm not saying that anyone should be able to do whatever they want and say "that's how it was!"  There needs to be documentation of some sort.  And this doesn’t even pertain to all aspects of the restoration, i.e., it would be very hard to prove any bolt on parts, even the dust shields, left the factory that way because they could have been changed at any time before the car was restored.  In my case we're talking paint here, and when I bought the car, the paint on the firewall was original, and yes, to restore a car correctly, you replace as little as possible and put things back as close as possible to the way you found them.

About 99.9% positive that that's the way they came from the factory, less a little rust.  Bare Steel, Black studs.

Hay,

What's the part number for the hose?  I may be able to help...

Stay away from the repop crap unless you drive a ford, then it fits right in!!!

Holy Crap, firstgenaddict, what color is the firewall??????  Is that just a flash back on the firewall or was it body color???  It must of been black because i'm sure you would have mentioned it in my thread.  Do you happen to know what plant the car came from....I'm betting it's a Norwood car....

Yeah, and the price....Holy f*&^%$#g Crap....

Well it took long enough for SOMEONE to reply that has the same feelings as me!!!!  THANK YOU firstgenaddict!!!
I ended up leaving the Sequoia green firewall for Camaro Nationals this year and thanks to the exposure on this forum and some awesome judges at the show I didn't loose any points for it in Bowtie (although I did take some grief from ONE of the Judges :D) and ended up with 965/1000!!!!  I even got Best of Show for all of GM Nationals from USMCF (United States Muscle Car Federation) ;D ;D ;D  I did grab Jerry and asked his opinion on what would happen in Legends and he said I would loose MAJOR points in that class due to the firewall and photos did not matter.  I found this very discouraging and now have the dreaded decision once again on what to do.  I really am proud of my car and all the attention it gets since all the work has been done myself except the paint and really wanted to take it as far as I could but like I said, I KNOW the firewall was body color, not black, and I really don't want to paint it black because that's the way it "should have" been.  I'm not looking for the points to bring value to the car either 'cause I'll never sell it.  It's more about pride.

Thanks for all the views and replies and keep them coming, I get a stupid joy out of starting the thread with most views!!!!!

firstgenaddict,
Could you post those pics, I would love to see them too.  Any chance of some engine shots showing the firewall???
Thanks, Chris.

Round like the one pictured, the difference is the way the cap is riveted on.  Original ones have a retangular shaped rivet like my spare below ;D

Buddy,

My 12D 68 had Gray/White splatter, and that's what I put back in but everyone seems to have a different opinion of what was correct.  Car only had 57,xxx when I got her...

bbd,

My 68 SS also has the sound deading (or undercoating) on the inside walls of the quarters like yours.  I don't think it's undercoating because it's way too thick.  I seem to remember it was inside my doors also.  Spatter was applied over this.  I used GM spatter and was very pleased.
