Phill, you want picks of the retainers installed, by themselves, or the tool?

The key is to have an air compressor and blow out any water from under the trim after a wash or getting the car wet.  Do that CORRECTLY without driving water up & under the top and rust will never be an issue.

Yeah, that's exactly how they do it.  When I had my top re-done I showed the place the retainers and they said they wouldn't use them.  I told them to just leave the vinyl long in the gutters and I would put them in myself...they did and told me Good Luck!  Well when the car was done I brought it back there to show them and they were amazed of the look and how well it fit & they asked me if I could get them a few sets.  When I told them how much they cost me they said "Never-mind"!

A picture of the tool is in the Body manual.

Sucks when companies treat customers like that.  FYI, noticed a thread on Team Camaro with someone else who also had issues with a Pypes system.  Guess it's not a isolated issue with the quality of their products-not that that makes you any better though!  Before I put a Gardner system on my car I had a Flowmaster header back kit with the delta 40's and just got a length of 2 1/2 pipe, a mandrel 45 & 90 and made the head pipes myself as I didn't have headers and no one was offering head pipes with mandrel bends.  Had Midas flare 2 short pieces to mate to the manifolds, mocked everything up and welded them up.  Came out nice and sounded AWESOME.  Had to take it off though to step up to the higher classes.  It's really not too hard to make the head pipes if you have a welder and you can get all the pipes & bends right from Summit or Jegs.

Not sure if Z-28 differs from BB SS but there are 3 on mine.  See below.  The one right outside grommet is missing but you can see the hole, second is right the entrance to trans tunnel (partially blocked by end of ground strap) and third is deeper in trans tunnel right before cable makes bend to go to trans.
Hope this helps!

Yes.  Code would depend on the build date of the car.  Wires are coded in 1/4's, 1-2-3-4 & the year but re-pops are only available in first & third quarter.  Whats the build date of your car?

Maintenance / Re: Flat spots on Bias-ply tires

do a couple of burnout switch frt to rear and repeat all will be fine.
Yeah, that’s what we used to call "Accu-Balancing" when we were kids.

I'll try driving on them but my fillings may come out before the flat spots!

Thanks guys!

Maintenance / Flat spots on Bias-ply tires
« on: January 08, 2008, 02:46:19 AM »
Anybody know a good way to get flat spots out of bias ply tires?  These are Coker redlines about 2 years old and about 5 miles on them.  Sat for maybe 4 months at 32 PSI and all have flat spots now.  Remember hearing something about over inflating them?  If so to what PSI and how long?  If not any other suggestions???
Thanks, Chris.

Restoration / Re: License Plate Restoration
« on: January 08, 2008, 02:17:46 AM »
Never had any plates restored but just something you want to check into first...Not sure if CT is the same but here in NJ if you want to put a set of old plates back in service you have to pay up to current, meaning if the plates were out of service for 10 years, you have to pay the back registration fees for those 10 years before you can register the plates as current!!  Stopped me from using an old set of plates...NJ-can't keep their hands out of my pockets!!!!!!

Don't quote me on this but I'm pretty sure you could have ordered a car without the stripes.  I know you could have ordered them a different color (black vs. white) than what GM usually put on the car with a particular color.  It was just coded as special paint.  As far as how to prove it you would most likely need the build sheet.  Wait for others to give a definitive answer though!!!

John, the silver paint is supposed to be there, the one quick tell tail between original & reproduction.  If you don't end up taking them & your friend of a friend is still looking to sell, send me a PM & let me know what he's asking, it's alway good to have spares!
Thanks, & good luck with the car.
Chris.
