Restoration / Re: Information requested please....
« on: March 12, 2009, 05:49:45 PM »
Thank You for the picture. Most pictures I have seen aren't taken fron this angle and don't show the detail. I see your metering valve is painted black. I was wondering what the finish would be on the front hex fitting if it was umpainted? Maybe just bare steel. Thanks again four help.
Sam

The 69's I have restored were silver cad plated.

Any idea for 67-68?  Silver or Gold???  Speaking of the smaller valve.

Restoration / Re: Jack and lug wrench color... paint codes?
« on: March 12, 2009, 04:04:41 PM »
Krylon has a Dove Gray that is a pretty good match for the jack mechanism, hook & base.  Parts houses sell paint specifically for this too but I can't comment on those.  Lug wrench should be black-at least consensus for 68!

Ken,

That's disappointing to hear...I was hoping you would find someone doing them correctly and give me a reason to re-do mine (seams backwards/padded)  :(

I do hope all goes well with the 69 and I see you at Nationals though!!  Keep me posted on the top too!

Thanks and Good Luck!!!

Chris.

From other thread:

Hi Ed -
Wow!  Thanks for the detailed info and photos.  I had to go look at my mirror again after reading your post and yes there is a date code on mine (I never noticed it   :-[ ).  The code on mine is:
12-DMI-7
Based on your example above my date code translates to December 1967. Is that correct?
Paul

Paul, your car is a 12D correct?

Somebody must have put these things on.

Take your time, start at front edge, top hook goes over first, pull down with fingers & push in with thumbs, bottom snaps on.  The trick is to get them started first along the top about a foot and a half (not fully popped on) then go back and fully pop on first 6 inches, then start 6 more, seat 6 more...to the end.  Fully seat them with the palm of your hand or a rubber roller (like the one they sell to install Dynamat).  Put on a set of heavy leather gloves or something with padded palms if using hands.  Their really not that bad, just take your time.

Also, since you mentioned the vinyl top...it should end DOWN IN the gutter...there is a space to tuck it into.  There is also a special retainer that is supposed to go over it in the gutter.  If the vinyl is wrapped up or over the piece you put the molding on you will never get them on.

See this thread:

Good luck!

My 02D Norwood Z/28 has its original D33 remote mirror (including the little drain slot), and it's dated "9 DMI 8" (September, 1968).

Is it typicial for the non-remote mirrors to be dated that early?  Also, have you ever seen a mirror with DCA & a little R in a circle right after the A between the numbers?

I would think Dec 68 or Jan 69 would be good but could even have Feb 69 since it's 4th week IMO.

Paragon has a pretty good reproduction and they'll even date the glass!

Ken,

Did you ever locate a correctly seamed un-padded vinyl top?  If so could you let me know where you got it from???

Pat is correct on the seams, just checked my original photos and it's the same.

Check this post too about the vinyl retainers, I have some pic's of mine in there.

Here is the picture of the cowl tag. Does this help? Tell me it's a keeper!!!

Unfortunately no, doesn't look like anything I've ever seen on a Camaro before.

Just cruzing around the internet and found this site all about Body by Fisher.  Thought it was pretty neat even though most of the stuff is from the 20's through 40's but did see a photo of a 68 Chevelle & one of a Corvair in the "Photo Album"  Check it out when you get some time, lot's of interesting info if your into the history side of things like me!

While I'm on the topic of my car I was wondering if anyone would have a clue to what label/sticker might have been applied to the interior of the glove box door opposite the tire pressure label?

Nothing from the factory that's for sure!  Could have been a Scooby sticker, could have been anything!  My guess is an old service station repair/service sticker...like the oil change one's we would stick in the door jambs.  Man I hated doing that to people’s cars but my boss always insisted!!!

« on: March 03, 2009, 10:14:45 PM »
Does anyone have a pic or know what's so special about the 2 washers that go on either side of the sleeve on the lower alternator mounting bracket for V8???  Referencing 68 AIM, page 79, view A, #11 - 3825452  Same for SB or BB.

I left them out and now trying to locate but I have no idea what I'm even looking for!!! :-[

Thanks guys!
