I dont know alot about Saginaw 4 speeds nor the differences between Muncie's and Saginaws. I just know that a Saginaw isnt built for high horse power like a Muncie is. My brother is looking to change his 68 Nova into a manual car from an automatic. He owns a 4 speed Saginaw and has just had a 396 big block built for his car. The prices of Muncie's on E-Bay is through the roof, is there an alternative? Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thank you

General Discussion / Re: Looking for a 1969 Camaro coupe
« on: June 02, 2006, 03:16:50 PM »
I guess it all depends on where you are located and how far you are willing to travel. I know a plcae called Camaro Specialty in Charlotte NC. and they usually have old camaro's that they sell for around $1,500.00. It's been awhile since i lived in Charlotte(2 years) but that is usually where i went to buy my camaro parts. They have a small camaro junk yard on the side of there shop and usually they are the whole body, some with interier but mostly no motor or trans. Might be worth checking out if you're interested. Hope the info helps.  :)

My car isn't as far along as yours but i might can give you a direction to look at. I usually buy Popular Hot Rodding magizine, and alot of the cars and camaro's in them will tell their rim and tire combo's. Just for example the one i'm looking at now is a 69' camaro and the car is running 17x8's up front and 17x11's out back. 245/45R17's front,315/35R17's rear. Doesn't say anything about having to modify the rear wheel wells, but i do know that the larger the rim the more clearance you have for brakes. Thats my two cents hope it helps, but i know how expensive rims and tires can be.

Restoration / Re: New Shell Vs Fixing mine
« on: May 24, 2006, 02:24:56 AM »
I guess what it really comes down to is if you have the cash to shell out for the new body thats your choice. I guess if you have a plain jane camaro it might be worth it to you to replace everything. But whether its made in the USA or china(not really sure) alot of the parts i have found that GM restorations dont make........like the entire trunk pan i just replaced in my 69'. I bought it from NPD,but i dont know if you can buy this part from GM. I have a budget though, plus my car is a 396SS car so i think in my opinion its worth repairing not replacing. I just replaced the trunk pan, inner and outer fenders and new full factory quarters. And i'm still finding sheet metal that needs to be replaced. So i guess it depends on time vs. cash but its all a labor of love for the cars. I'm not going to lie and say that it wont be alot of work because it will be. But anyway thats my 2 cents.

Restoration / Re: I need to replace my entire trunk pan etc.......

Well,i removed the tail pan and  that helped give me clearance. I just finished cutting out the old rusty trunk pan and that took a good 6 hours to get the old stuff out. Now i'm curious if anyone has ever replaced the entire floor pan? I'm not sure if i'm going to or not but there was a lot of rust where the trunk pan and floor pan meet. I've also noticed with more inspection that someone has welded in floor patch panels, they were just put in badly. The problem that i'm going to have now is trying to juggle the support i welded in the trunk to hold up the driver side roof. I'm also getting the sneaky suspition that the car was wrecked at one time on the driver side rear quarter because of some bent braces. I hope i can put this car back together without losing my sanity, because i have never jumped this deep into replacing parts before.

Restoration / I need to replace my entire trunk pan etc.......

I need to replace my entire trunk pan,i went to NPD and bought a new full trunk pan. My car is a 1969 Camaro 396SS and it was a northern car. The entire trunk pan, inner rear fenders, outer rear fenders, quarters, and rear panel need to be replaced. They are rusted beyond repair and i need to know the best method to get to the trunk pan without causing a major disaster. I removed the driver side quarter,inner/outer fender and with those gone there is no support holding the top of the car up. I did put some steel rods inside the rear seat area to hold the roof up at the right height but the thought of removing the passager side scares me. What is the best method to get to the trunk pan without the roof of the car collapsing? Any info on this will be greatly helpful. Thank you

It has 2 (sending and return) fuel lines. Would the cowl or VIN # state the type pf 396 that was in the vehicle or the type of transmission meaning (m-21/22) saginaw? And does no trim mean no chrome around the wheel wells and drip rails? These are the questions i'm mostly interested.

The VIN# is as followed 124379N681136. The transmission i am having it rebuilt atm,but i was told it is a M-21 4 speed, whether it came with the car or not i dont know. That was one of the questions i was wondering about if the cowl tag would say if it was a 4 speed or automatic. I have to assume it is a 4 speed because it has all of the clutch parts still intact. And what is no style trim exactly? And with the car being a big block SS does that mean it had the hockey stick stripe or the racing stripes? Or does that not have anything to do with the cowl tag. Also with out the motor is it possible to find another #'s matching engine from something else of that year or were they specific castings? The reason i ask these questions is because there is no way i will ever sell this car and would very much like to restore the car back to its original condition. The car atm is being media blasted with along list of replacement panels and floor pans. If someone could answer these questions i would very much appreciate it.

I just bought a 1969 camaro and i'm trying to figure out what the car is. The car is missing the engine but it still has a 4 speed transmission it. Well at least in the trunk. I thought the car was a bargain even for $500.00,although it has seen some better days........very rusty. I would like to find out as much about the car as possible and i tried to understand all of the codes but i wasnt very successful. Some parts of the car is missing all together hood, rear deck lid and emblems. The cowl tag reads as followed   ST69  12437   NOR 120222 BDY   (2nd line) TR 711        57 57 PNT   (3rd line) 09A         X66         I would like to know what the motor and transmission was that came in the car if possible, color of paint inside and out. Also what kind of stripes( if any),hide away head lamps( since the car doesnt have a grill) and whatever other info someone can tell me. It does have a 10 bolt rear under it but i know those are easy enough to change out. So if someone would be kind enough to help me out i would be very appreciated.
