Originality / Re: Spatter Paint
« on: January 29, 2024, 01:47:57 AM »
i saw a restorer shoot the trunk matte black then use the "flick the paintbrush" technique with aqua paint to simulate the aqua spatter.  Looked damn convincing to me. Getting the flat aqua interior wall paint (oops- sorry - did I say interior flat wall paint) the right viscosity is the key.  Use your finger (like you're flicking off a bug off your finger) at the ends of the paint loaded brush and "flick" the paint onto the surface. It takes practice, its tedious - but it looks awesome.  (They also flicked the entire brush too........)

I watched it until I just couldn't take it anymore.  It took about 45 minutes, and I was done.

Thanks! Drilling holes in perfectly good fenders was a mental hurdle. But with help of a few members, I can do this in my sleep now.
LOL!  I had to take a good talking to myself before I drilled them too!!!!  I kept asking myself WTF are you doing!!!!!
After I sat down and had a Sam Adams - I went for it.

Well if it were me, I’d offer maybe $50k (tops) then make it a real z again with a real DZ engine ($$$$$) and M22 trans —— if I were to keep it for myself.  I wouldn’t mess with numbers… just be up front about it.  It would have that Z feel again.

I remember long ago, I spoke with one of the few Camaro experts (that wrote many books) of the day and he told me something that sticks with me......"these cars were made on an assembly line where depending on the day they were built, there are going to be variances - that's the way it is - not everything is going to be spot on".  The QA folks at the end of the line weren't going to reject a car due to a stripe that's off by a 1/4"......

He's right.

They do but it is not the same as original.
Dern.......oh well.

I believe Year One makes them as a reproduction - which surprised me a bit.

I'm pretty sure the alternator bracket itself is bent......how - beats me.  But it has a weird tilt to it.

I'd like to reuse mine, but the stitching is coming out around the edges. The upholsterer can't repair them, apparently a special machine is needed.
Did you try stitching them by hand? The holes are already there.
Been there - done that.......Tedious, but it works out great.
