Restoration / Re: Door mirror restoration
« on: October 25, 2022, 12:13:37 AM »
Well - you can, but it'll be nerve-racking at the least.  Pulling the stud that holds the mirror to the base - that's one.  Heat around the stud with a heat gun, then carefully spray the stud with something cold, like the propellant from canned air.  A couple of hits, with a soft mallet, it MIGHT pop out.

The mirror - some of us had luck by placing the mirror upside down in a bath of MEK, or other nasty solvents to release the glass from the metal.

If all the above works - consider yourself lucky.

Originality / Re: Air Cleaner spacer?
« on: October 13, 2022, 11:10:13 AM »
"I went to replace the cowl induction seal and the lip to secure it was pointed the wrong direction. So I grabbed the AIM and figured out the Camaro Central guys had it inside out. I flipped it around and also noticed in the diagram there is a spacer between the air cleaner base and the flat flange where the seal is mounted."

If I got a dime for every upside-down Cowl Induction seal I saw in the past 30 yrs, I'd be a millionaire.

I don’t think I’ll need an impact gun on this one… bolts are pretty clean - hell - the car goes nowhere.  But I’m pretty sure they’ll come out easy - at least I hope so.

Looks a little dicey on the drivers side, didn’t know if I had to remove the temp sensor or not.  Then I’d have to empty the coolant. Just bs like that..

Maintenance / Stock Exhaust Manifold Removal - 69 SS 350
« on: October 02, 2022, 04:49:23 PM »
Looking to remove my stock exhaust manifolds in my SS 350.. any pointers before I tackle this?  Looks like the passenger side is a breeze, but the drivers side looks a bit more of a pita.
Appreciate any real world experience on this…. thanks!!

What's the consistency of the foam?  Is is semi hard or pretty soft?

Don't know why someone would go through all the bs just for a custom / restomod.  But what do I know.

Yeah Dave - those rivets scream "not original !"  Plus the speedometer is repro too.  Look at the font of the numbers on the odometer and compare them to a known original.

"Or if a judge tries to yank my window moldings off to see if I have the factory correct clips. Some people push this a a little too far."

If they do, kick them right in the :o and yell "Aint ya gotta life?"  LOL!!!

I must be color blind - the gaskets I got from CHQ are more like a light clay / grey color.  So I'm installing them as is.  I don't care anymore!!!  I don't think anyone is gonna stoop down and look at the turn signal lights that closely and say "Hey - those gaskets are wrong!".
