Restoration / Re: 69 SS Steering hub / wheel alignment problem
« on: February 07, 2023, 03:17:57 PM »
Welp - having the same setup as all of us do in this forum, and nothing changed from the signal mechanism and up  - the steering wheel had to have been put onto the hub 180 degrees out from the onset. Maybe you didn't notice that when you took it apart? - and why would it be like that in the first place?  Maybe the previous owner (if there is one) made a big mistake downward towards the steering box and figured, ehhhhhhh I'll just put the wheel on like this and the hell with it.   Weird........

Maintenance / Re: Replacing Heater Control Cables - Maybe
« on: February 07, 2023, 01:59:24 PM »
So - I guess I have to remove - the dash pad / radio / ash tray / glove box.  Oiii........oh well - its a winter project.

I've noticed that most of the heater controller assemblies I see on ebay - etc, has that left-most knob broken off......so I'm not the only one that has this issue. Must be something inherent to that part of the heater / doors inside the heater box.

I know one thing - I'm NOT removing that heater box....da hell with that!

Maintenance / Replacing Heater Control Cables - Maybe
« on: February 07, 2023, 01:55:46 AM »
I'm a glutton for punishment, and want to replace the heater control cables in my 69 SS.  The left-most control is really tight to push up & down, and I already had to replace the control knob once, and not really fond of breaking it again, so - has anyone done this?  If so - what's the secret?

I'd appreciate any actual "been there done that" advice.

That's why I just left the clips as they are and used the cut pieces of "O" ring to spread them apart - they can still be removed if needed.

I think you'll have one helluva time getting them out if you have to.

Get a piece of small o-ring material (1/8" dia. black) cut a small piece off and shove it in between the actual clip part.  Spreads it up real nice.  Pop it in - yer done.  Or - put the clip in the hole, then put the o-ring piece in-between the clips and push it up.  Either way you should be good.

Works everytime.

Doh! But why wouldn’t all 3 be shown? Does the manual give you a choice of marked head?
Nope - Just the one.  Whatever.  The manual states that they should be marked with either - "WB", "NAT" or "SB" headed bolts.

And Jim - thanks for the pictures - really helps.  Never knew about the black oxide lock washer.

I have a picture of the bolt from an untouched 69 Z, and it looks like nothing that's available repro...but - I could be wrong.

I'd post the picture, but it's way too large.

Like a dumb-a$$ - I have one, and it shows an original bolt.  Only shows one of three examples - I'd like to see other REAL ones.
They should be marked with either - "WB", "NAT" or SB headed bolts.

Can't believe CHQ makes the kits with the wrong plated adjustment bolt. -

Ehhh whatever, I should have better things to worry about!!!  LOL!

Is there an absolutely factory correct alt tension adjustment bolt available?  I just got the bolt kit which has the pivot and adjustment bolt and it’s all black EDP coated.  The pivot bolt yeah, but I’m pretty sure that the adj bolt was zinc plated.  The flat faced bolt I see out there doesn’t look right either.
Anything out there that’s correct???

Talking to a friend last night and he told me that T-3 means something - like and engineering term, test or something like that.  He said that Mike Joy was talking about that subject during a Barrett Jackson auction broadcast, but can't remember the details...  I know that the T3 headlamps were made by Guide, which was bought by GM in the early days to be a subsidiary of Delco-Remy.

Anyone have a clue?
