Garage Talk / Fall Carlisle
« on: October 02, 2023, 11:14:09 AM »
What a waste of time - but I keep going back...WHY!

Its keeps getting worse every year.  More non-car related junk, and less car parts.  Lots of empty spaces.

General Discussion / Dupont Cronar Color Code
« on: September 08, 2023, 01:24:47 PM »
Sorry for saying the word "Cronar" - I know it brings horror and pain to those shop owners that used that stuff back in the late 80's / early 90's but I need a favor.

Can someone tell me the color formulation code for Le Mans blue & Marina Blue using Cronar paint? I have color code of DBU16510, but it doesn't bring up anything.

I'm hoping someone with a shop still has the paint chip books from "back in the day".

I would really appreciate it.

Restoration / Rear Seat Upholstery Issues
« on: July 31, 2023, 12:39:38 AM »
Has anyone had the same issue with PUI rear seat upholstery?  Take a look at the picture and look at the pleats - drives me nuts - this is the second set that had the same issue.

Has anyone else had this issue?

I really wanted Legendary Interior stuff, but they had a 40-week waiting period. - 40 WEEKS!

When you're good you're good I guess.   :(

Need a little help,

Can someone give me some location measurements of where your front speaker grilles are mounted on the kick panels?

I would really appreciate it.  Needs to be a 69.

Thanks, Mike

Restoration / Amber light radio question for the experts
« on: May 26, 2023, 10:44:30 AM »
Ok here's a good one.
We all know that the blue light went out sometime around April / May 69 for the amber light radio right?

Now for the kicker....the blue light radio had the external multiplexer / amp mounted near the glove box - that's fact.

I'm reading on a few forums (here too) where folks have original amber light radios that had no "Stereo" on the lens - just on the FM dial and............there was no external multiplexer - it was all integrated within the one unit.

Can one of our experts / higher knowledgeable folks confirm this?

Reason is - I see nothing about that in the AIM. - I'm thinking it was too late of a change to make it worthwhile to do...?

General Discussion / 3927792 Fan Spacer on Small Block?
« on: April 17, 2023, 10:21:09 PM »
Can someone with an SS350 w/o AC take a picture of the fan spacer on their car?  I can't believe that the 3927792 - 1" spacer is correct.  Mine is almost twice the length and the fan fits just inside the fan shroud like its supposed to (which I believe is a 3927794 - BUT it's supposed to be used on a 6 CYL?).  The larger one has been on the car since I bought it...something's not right.  I believe the chart below is in error.

Are we sure 3927792 is correct?      Just checking.  Here's the chart in the "underhood" section.  Maybe the V8 for 69 is for a big block car?

Four-Bladed Fan Spacer Part Numbers
Year       Application   Part Number   Length (inch)
67-68         6 cyl.      3876828         2-9/32
67   V8 (exc. 396)   3814241           1-15/16
68   V8 (exc. 396)   3857041           1-17/32
67-68   396           3857042           1-9/32
69         6 cyl.           3927794           1-1/2
69           V8           3927792             1

Maintenance / Replacing Heater Control Cables - Maybe
« on: February 07, 2023, 01:55:46 AM »
I'm a glutton for punishment, and want to replace the heater control cables in my 69 SS.  The left-most control is really tight to push up & down, and I already had to replace the control knob once, and not really fond of breaking it again, so - has anyone done this?  If so - what's the secret?

I'd appreciate any actual "been there done that" advice.

Restoration / Alternator Belt Tension Adj Bolt
« on: January 27, 2023, 12:50:20 AM »
Is there an absolutely factory correct alt tension adjustment bolt available?  I just got the bolt kit which has the pivot and adjustment bolt and it’s all black EDP coated.  The pivot bolt yeah, but I’m pretty sure that the adj bolt was zinc plated.  The flat faced bolt I see out there doesn’t look right either.
Anything out there that’s correct???

General Discussion / What does "T-3" stand for in GM Headlamps
« on: January 24, 2023, 12:05:53 PM »
Talking to a friend last night and he told me that T-3 means something - like and engineering term, test or something like that.  He said that Mike Joy was talking about that subject during a Barrett Jackson auction broadcast, but can't remember the details...  I know that the T3 headlamps were made by Guide, which was bought by GM in the early days to be a subsidiary of Delco-Remy.

Anyone have a clue?

Restoration / 69 SS L48 Fuel Lines
« on: January 05, 2023, 01:36:34 PM »
If someone has an original L48 car with the fuel lines from the fuel pump to the filter / carb I'd really appreciate it.  I installed new lines and they are different from what I originally installed.  Views near / around the fuel pump would be great....thanks!

Originality / 69 Temp sender with threads wire mounting sequence
« on: December 01, 2022, 04:49:55 PM »
Ok....I've tried everywhere to get a picture of an original car with the temp sender wiring with console gauges.

I have a kit from HBC that has TWO nuts and the star washer.  I see on the AIM that the wire terminal is put in first, then the star washer - then the nut - then tighten.  Ok - easy.

Am I to believe that I should have one nut tightened onto the sender, then the wire terminal - then star washer - then the other nut and tighten that all together??????

I'm going with the AIM - but are there any original cars out there with two nuts?

Looking for the real experts to chime in!!!!!  LOL!
