General Discussion / Replacement 15x6 DF wheels
« on: May 20, 2009, 04:25:08 AM »
Does anyone make a nice replacement for the Camaro 15x6 rally wheel (DF)? I know you can buy the 15x7 and 14x7 wheels all day long and some places sell a new 15x6 rally wheel but, Im trying to find out if they have the right offset or back spacing. More impotant, is the center part of the wheel almost flush with the rim where the valve stem hole is? I don't own a Z28 but I want the look of the narrow wheel without having to compete with Z owners trying to buy original DF wheels. Thanks guys.

Mild Modifications / Re: How to feed the TPI in my 69

If its not too late, Spectra Premium industries (SPI) is making OE style tanks with fuel pumps for EFI conversions. Part number GM32BFI. Rock auto sells it for about $450. Has pump and sending unit. I put EFI in my 68 and didn't find out about this set up until after I had already run a return line through my sending unit and mounted an external pump.

Originality / Re: Original #s matching SS muncie 3 speed
« on: July 24, 2008, 12:08:03 AM »
Yes. The stick is flat with muncie stamped on it.

My muncie 3 speed (behind a L48) works great. Real pleasure to drive. Dont want to beat on it too much though, parts are hard to come by.  I think they came standard behind 396 as well.

4 speed would be a little "cooler" though.

General Discussion / US made repro fenders
« on: March 25, 2008, 10:11:49 PM »
Anyone have any experience using the US made reproduction fenders (or any US repro) that Heartbeat City is selling for $750? Are they as good as GM? Are they better than the imports? Thanks.

General Discussion / Re: 69 Z28 master cylinder???

I bought a reman master for my 69 SS for about $20 or $30 with the intention of using the new parts in my original. I ended up just using the reman master on my car, keeping my original on the shelf for a later rebuild, and paying the core charge. I bought a Wagner rebuild kit in the begining and found it didnt have all the parts I needed.

Second gen Camaros (79 and later for sure) use a dash mounted delay wiper switch.

Unfortunately, I left the car with its trim tag at the junk yard. I only took the complete engine. I could go back and see if it is still there, I'm always looking for reasons to go to the junk yard.
I'll try to get some pics of the engine pad out asap. Thanks for the interest.

I bought a GF432 from an AC Delco supplier a few tears ago. Its the fatter version (396) but its new and it works well. I agree, very hard to find. Check the AC Delco online catalog for GF432 or 5651480 or ask a local AC Delco supplier. Those are the numbers that are on the box.

Decoding/Numbers / 69 388 block casting date vs build date
« on: November 14, 2007, 04:17:28 AM »
I recently found a complete 350 300 hp engine in a junked 69 full size station wagon, original to the car. The interesting thing I found is the 388 block was cast in September of 1968 but the engine was assembled in February of 1969. Seems like a long time difference to me. Unfortunately, the block is cracked so I'm wondering if its worth documenting before I throw it away.

Restoration / Re: 69 A/C heater box problem
« on: August 19, 2007, 02:13:56 PM »
Thanks Flowjoe, I think I successfully made the piece that was missing out of sheet metal. I also sealed the rest of the duct work with some nice black high density foam tape I found at Lowes. Now the system blows lots of air out of the right places.

Restoration / 69 A/C heater box problem
« on: July 29, 2007, 03:11:07 PM »
I'm currently working on resealing the HVAC ducts and heater box on a A/C equipped 69 RS. I have the box removed and on the firewall side of the heater box it looks like I'm missing a piece. I think I'm going to try to make the piece thats missing (for functionality) but I'd like to get an idea of what it looks like. I think its a small curved backing plate for the heater and defrost feed with 2 studs that go through the firewall. Does anyone have any pictures of the firewall side of a 69 A/C heater(under dash) box? That would be so helpful. Thanks.

General Discussion / Re: New Camaro in Detroit

The new Mustang is a head turner for me. Ford did a great job with it but, what are they going to do with it when its due for redesign? I guess its all about what sells RIGHT NOW.
I am a fan of the new Camaro style, though I would prefer a little more retro. I too am hoping for a bare bones performance version and a Rally Sport (hidden headlight) option would do it for me.

Wow, a friend of mine has a car with the same paint and interior codes, built 01A. It also is a 307 PG. The car is red now though.
