General Discussion / Re: Ticking Noise TSB 69-T-29
« on: July 02, 2011, 03:10:33 AM »
You know, my L48 car has been making a "ticking sound" around the right side rear wheel area since I've owned it. I always thought it was some sort of exhaust interference or leak. I'll have to check out this TSB and see if I can fix it. That would be wonderful!

That was the first time I was able to take any cars to Camaro Nationals. It was great for me because I live 20 miles from Frederick. I had a great time, saw some really cool cars and met some great people. It would be nice to figure out how to attract more of the "high end", cars though. I understand Jerry M became ill during the whole event so we missed his participation. I hope he's doing ok. I look forward to doing it again next year.

Yes, the other block is a Tonawanda. Strange though, looks like the cast date is I 26 8 and the assembly is T0212HN.

My late November (68) built L48 is a 388 block. I also have a L48 block from a 69 full size wagon that is a 388 2 bolt main.

General Discussion / Re: DF wheels

Paul, That wheel on Ebay has the narrow 1" slots. I have 1 of those I'm going to use as a temporary 4th wheel untill I find one more with the 1 1/8" wide slots. Truth is, probably won't be able to tell the difference once the trim ring is on but I'm just being picky.  :) Thanks for lookin!

I need one more K19 DF wheel with the 1 1/8 wide slots. Just one! I aquired three of them over the past 2 years for an average of $90 each. I like the 69 dated replacements because the prices are usually reasonable and I'm not putting them on a numbers Z28. Anyone got one of these with the wide slots they can part with? Thanks!

Maintenance / Rear leaf springs
« on: February 25, 2011, 12:40:59 AM »
Hello all, I'm getting ready to change the rear axle in my 68 from a 10 bolt mono to a 12 bolt multi leaf. My question is, has anyone had any experience with the reproduction leaf springs on the market? There seems to be a few options ranging from the cheap 5 leaf replacement to the "correct" 4 and 5 leaf repros. I'm not building a show winner but I like my car to drive great and look great. Ideally, the 4 leaf correct repro would be my preference but, are they worth the extra money? Are the cheaper replacements decent and consistant? Anyone ever use the Eaton Detroit springs? I really drive the car so handling is important(maybe like a stock Z). I like the stock ride height too.
Thanks for any input.

General Discussion / Re: Repo delco moraine boosters.

I bought a complete 4-piston conversion kit from The Right Stuff for my 68 RS and I got their "correct" Delco stamped booster. I've had it over two years and it looks great and works fine. I drive the car often and sometimes I have to leave it outside. I have never tried to verify its correctness but im very happy with it. Oh, the master cylinder and the hold-off valve were garbage.

General Discussion / Re: factory 1969 12 bolt pinion angle
« on: December 04, 2010, 02:24:16 PM »
Also consider the mounting point on the leaf spring. I think when the axle is mounted on the springs, it actually puts the pinion closer to level when the perches are welded with the pinion up about 6*. So, the down position would seem wrong to me. When power is applied to the axle, it tends to rotate so the pinion moves up.

Restoration / Re: How to convert from R12 to R134 on a 69 Camaro
« on: August 03, 2009, 02:07:41 AM »
I did a 134a changeover on a 69 a few years back and it works fine. I flushed ALL components with an A/C flush chemical first to remove ALL the old refrigerant oil. The older R12 refrigerant oils are not compatible with 134a. I replaced the receiver dryer, then added the right amount of 134a compatible oil to all the components, reassembled with new o-rings. The biggest problem I ran into was finding a working POA valve, which had nothing to do with the change to 134a. It still works great but It'll never blow as cold as an original working R12 system.

General Discussion / Re: Replacement 15x6 DF wheels

I have a friend who has a pair of 68 DF wheels on the front of his GMC S15 daily driver. He said he'd trade them for a pair of my 15x7s. Now, I just need to find 2 more...repro or original. If I could just get a full set elsewhere, that would be fine also.

Paul, I'm curious about the wheels your friend has. Post or email me a price if you get a chance. Thanks very much.
