General Discussion / Re: 69 DZ302 Vacuum Advance B28
« on: December 23, 2018, 02:02:01 PM »
You could use a mighty Vac Brake bleeder tool to adapt to the advance?

I will try to dig mine out an see.

JIM

That's right Jim, use a hand held vacuum pump. Should pull the arm in and hold vacuum.

General Discussion / Re: 1969 Smog pump and parts on ebay

I had one of those L/H small bock tubes that I couldn't sell for $40 that still has the nuts. Sold the rest of the set up (taken off in the 70s in great shape) for $150. Sorry Austin, I don't see much value there either. Might help if the pump had a relief valve.

Nice engine, Ed.

General Discussion / Re: Factory Production 69 Camaro JL8 L-78?
« on: December 15, 2018, 02:06:04 AM »
I can only imagine the stories over that duration.
50 known to exist, Is there any docs or POP's showing JL8 where the car is waiting to be found or known destroyed?
I have a neighbor (speaking of stories) who informed me of a 69 Z w/ 4 wheel discs that was totaled back in the day by a local guy. I told him to ask the guy if he stil had the paperwork. I'm not sure he took me seriously so I'm gonna ask again.

Gary, make the call!  :D

Anyone tried doing these rivets themselves? I'd be tempted.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: interesting but rough...

I had the Citation '81-'87 and put 100k on it. Had a few repairs but not much. My '85 Pontiac 6000STE, another story. Worst car I ever owned.

My mother had an 81 Citation, I always thought the X11 was a cool looking car with the ZL2-like hood. I'd own one w/V6 manual trans today as a driver.
The 6000STE, didn't that car have approximately 1.2 million buttons between the steering wheel and the dash? Sorry this went way off topic.

Can the tape or mask lines be felt at the trunk area on original 396 cars?

I wonder why the heads would have been replaced? I assume Chevrolet would not have authorized that right?
Also intersting to see the heater hose clamp on the alternator. I know we have discussed that before, maybe it was a early L.A. part? (seems like other early Norwood cars did not have it) My 10B L.A. car does have it
If the engine dropped a valve, the head could have taken a real beating. Hard to say why both would be replaced unless there was an issue found with the other.

Exciting build! Nothing like a car built to drive and take a little beating. DF/Bias ply is my favorite look. Good luck with the progress, Jon.
