Originality / 1968 6K Tachometer
« on: July 13, 2016, 02:50:16 AM »
Have any 6K tachs been found in anything other than solid lifter cars for 1968? Like L35's or L34's?

General Discussion / Took my 69 to its original owner for a visit
« on: July 19, 2013, 02:30:42 AM »
This past weekend I drove my 69 RS/SS over 100 miles to visit its original owner. What a great experience. I had been in contact with him for about 8 years now and finally got the guts to take the car on a 220 mile round trip in the 90+ degree heat. My only regret is that I was unable to get the A/C operating before hand. The drive was great and the car drove wonderful. But, even more wonderful was the man himself. The man who met his wife-to-be shortly before taking delivery of his new Camaro which they would drive on their honeymoon in New England a few years later. The guy now caring for his ailing wife was able to take a break for a ride down memory lane behind the wheel of his old weathered, but solid Camaro. It was a good time!

General Discussion / Dynamotion COPO pics
« on: April 17, 2013, 02:27:07 AM »
I got these cool old pictures from a co-worker who used to work at Dynamotion performance in Suitland, Maryland way back in 1970. The car was a Hugger Orange COPO and it looks like it was recently found. There is a really cool thread about it and a bunch more pics over at Yenko.net.

Restoration / Interior parts suppliers
« on: March 15, 2013, 04:57:35 PM »
Experienced opinions wanted.
I am considering replacing the interior components in my 68 RS and I'd like some input from those who have some experience with new reproduction parts and upholstery. Primary items I intend to replace are seat upholstery and foam, dash pad, door panels and rear panels, headliner and carpet. So, if anyone cares to share their experience with these products, brand and where they were purchased and wheter you liked or disliked them, I'd appreciate it. I'm just trying to avoid buying known garbage for a car I drive on a regular basis.
Its Ivy Gold standard.

Thanks

Mild Modifications / Stewart Warner Tach wiring
« on: July 06, 2012, 05:44:11 PM »
Does anyone have a wiring diagram or installation instructions for an old SW 960AA green line tach? I've got one that I'd like to install but I'm unsure of the connections or if it requires a sending unit. It has 4 unlabeled studs on the back and I'm pretty sure 2 of them are just for the the mounting bracket. Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

Originality / 67-68 Washer pump
« on: May 12, 2012, 01:12:32 AM »
I recently went to replace my inoperative washer pump on my 68 with a repro and it didnt look like the one on the car. The pump on my car looks like the 67 style. So, now i guess one of two things is going on, either mine was replaced with a used 67 pump at some point, or maybe it is a carry over in production. Does anyone have an idea if the 67 washer pump was used in the first part of 68? Also, is there a date identification on the pumps? My 68 is a 12D LA build. Thanks.
I wish someone made replacement plungers for these pumps.

General Discussion / 12 bolt axle shaft length?
« on: December 04, 2011, 04:15:01 AM »
Hey Guys, I did a 12 bolt swap last weekend on my 68 and now i notice my brake drums are about 1/4"(visual) more away from the backing plate than when the 10 bolt was in (also compared to the OE 12 bolt in my 69). So, my questions will start with...does anyone know the correct length of the 12 bolt drum brake axle shaft? I spent a few hours trying to research it but found what I thought to be conflicting information, sources stating anywhere from 29.5", 29 9/16" on up to 30.5". I'm trying to get an idea whats wrong based on some measurements and some known figures before taking the axles back out. I'm thinking someone put some Chevelle or second gen axles in this thing before I got it but I want some reliable measurements to go off of. I realize I've got alot of things to verify before jumping to any conclusions but that measurement is bugging me.  :)   Thanks for any help.

Decoding/Numbers / Fan Clutch Date Stamp
« on: July 02, 2011, 09:33:54 PM »
I have a fan clutch with a stamp on the water pump flange that reads B0372SC. I'm having trouble decoding it using the julian method. I picked it up used because it had a nice looking fan on it so its not real important. Thanks for the help.

Maintenance / Rear leaf springs
« on: February 25, 2011, 12:40:59 AM »
Hello all, I'm getting ready to change the rear axle in my 68 from a 10 bolt mono to a 12 bolt multi leaf. My question is, has anyone had any experience with the reproduction leaf springs on the market? There seems to be a few options ranging from the cheap 5 leaf replacement to the "correct" 4 and 5 leaf repros. I'm not building a show winner but I like my car to drive great and look great. Ideally, the 4 leaf correct repro would be my preference but, are they worth the extra money? Are the cheaper replacements decent and consistant? Anyone ever use the Eaton Detroit springs? I really drive the car so handling is important(maybe like a stock Z). I like the stock ride height too.
Thanks for any input.

General Discussion / Replacement 15x6 DF wheels
« on: May 20, 2009, 04:25:08 AM »
Does anyone make a nice replacement for the Camaro 15x6 rally wheel (DF)? I know you can buy the 15x7 and 14x7 wheels all day long and some places sell a new 15x6 rally wheel but, Im trying to find out if they have the right offset or back spacing. More impotant, is the center part of the wheel almost flush with the rim where the valve stem hole is? I don't own a Z28 but I want the look of the narrow wheel without having to compete with Z owners trying to buy original DF wheels. Thanks guys.

General Discussion / US made repro fenders
« on: March 25, 2008, 10:11:49 PM »
Anyone have any experience using the US made reproduction fenders (or any US repro) that Heartbeat City is selling for $750? Are they as good as GM? Are they better than the imports? Thanks.

Decoding/Numbers / 69 388 block casting date vs build date
« on: November 14, 2007, 04:17:28 AM »
I recently found a complete 350 300 hp engine in a junked 69 full size station wagon, original to the car. The interesting thing I found is the 388 block was cast in September of 1968 but the engine was assembled in February of 1969. Seems like a long time difference to me. Unfortunately, the block is cracked so I'm wondering if its worth documenting before I throw it away.

Restoration / 69 A/C heater box problem
« on: July 29, 2007, 03:11:07 PM »
I'm currently working on resealing the HVAC ducts and heater box on a A/C equipped 69 RS. I have the box removed and on the firewall side of the heater box it looks like I'm missing a piece. I think I'm going to try to make the piece thats missing (for functionality) but I'd like to get an idea of what it looks like. I think its a small curved backing plate for the heater and defrost feed with 2 studs that go through the firewall. Does anyone have any pictures of the firewall side of a 69 A/C heater(under dash) box? That would be so helpful. Thanks.
