What I can add here is the wire style was used on 67 and 68's.  But, I'm not sure on the BB cars.  I'll have to dig though all of my survivor photos and take a look.

In the Nov '68 Super Stock magazine article with Jerry Stahl and the '68 Z28 road test, they talked about how they did not like the wire style hold down as the timing kept moving around while doing their road test.

Just a quick post here to clarify here.  On Han's engine, I did paint where the intake meets the cylinder head.  I do this is many cases so that area does not rust.  There are variations in this area and sometimes there is a light over spray of orange in this area.  Other original cars have no paint there.  So, restoring your engine gives you several options and how you want to do it.

Regarding engine lift hooks, I have seen them both ways on Z28's.  Painted orange and not painted (natural) or silver in color.  I have inspected and looked at dozens of original survivor cars since the late 1980's and no two seem to be identical.  Again, it's up to the restorer.  If he likes them orange, do them that way.  If you want them natural then that is good too.  Either will net you full points in the "Legend Certification."   I have many original photos both ways.

Guys, lightening hit the back of my building and caught fire.  The back half of the upstairs was badly burned but overall it could have been much worse.  I lost quite a few NOS parts that I have been saving for over 40 years but I was able to get the cars out safely.  Only damage on the main floor was from the water and fire department.  The sheet rock got wet and then fell down from the ceiling.  Will take about a month or so before I'm back up and running again.  10 trusses have to be replaced along with the plywood and shingles. 

What boggles my mind is why this happened when there is a 4 story oak tree right next to the back of my shop.  Couple that with the fact that the back wall of my shop is about 10-12 feet under ground (building was built into a bank) meaning that the tall peek of the roof is only about 12' out of the ground.

And, here's a big block car, '65 396 Impala that I just restored.  This car sat for over 20 years in a Quonset hut and was a virgin before I began the restoration.  All orange.........

I have many survivor cars in my data base so here's one of my client's cars that is a true survivor car that has been in the family since new.  Very orange.  Bell housing too.  Very neat car!

The famous '68 Z28 ad that was in about every magazine back in the day also states 2 1/4" diameter pipes with deep tone muffler.

Yes these parts would be the best, but finding 46 year old parts such as exhaust system parts in excellent original condition is near impossible.  Also the fact that some of the pieces on original exh systems were welded in place.  Would be hard to do on a finished car? 

The Gardner systems are far beyond anything else on the market.  I have installed dozens and never an issue.  And, no I don't get paid for saying this.  They just make quality parts.

General Discussion / 2013 Camaro Nationals

Just a note to say looking forward to this year's Camaro Nationals next week.  This year promises to be even better and better with expectations of over 600 cars.  We will have some very nice examples in the 'Legends Certification' class and also some newly found survivor cars for the Legends class.  The large air conditioned building that we now work in is very nice and the city of Frederick has opened its arms to this ACA Camaro National event.

Regarding the interior parts needed, choose your replacement parts carefully.  Seems that the reproduction interiors are getting worse and not better.  Regarding headers, they were never available as an option in '69.  Only '67 and '68.  There would be issues with clearing the reverse lock out system on the '69 cars. 

The headers will make the car run much better.  If you need exhaust parts, Gardner is the only vendor that is spot on and makes quality stuff.  All of the cars we judge in Legends Certification have to have a Gardner system.  And, everyone who buys a Gardner system, never regrets it.

That's J. Thomas' old car.  Real Z but he changed the trim tag for color purposes.........I have photos of that car from the Camaro Nationals during the early 1990's.  It's been done for many years.
