Here is one from an 05A pace car with car shipper.  No mention of PL4 on the shipper.  Original owner car.  I will ask owner to post copy of shipper.  Rally wheel dated K19-3-22,

Bill, since the first SS car that turned up with an original spare, two others for me have surfaced in my travels that have the original window sticker and original dated Polyglas spare and wheel in the trunk.  No mention of the RPO code on the window sticker.  It appears that J. Kelsey and Norwood plant workers were correct about installing what they had to get the car out the door.  A best friend's Chevelle who bought it new got the Polyglas and car was not ordered with them either..........the saga continues.

For years now this has been a very controversial question. Many have believed that only the F70 x 14" Wide Treads were available for the 1969 Camaro SS. I remembered seeing the Polyglas tires on brand new 1969 Chevelles when my Dad and I were out car shopping for me. But in today’s Camaro hobby, hearsay does not get it. Over the past three years I have broken the code on this issue.  I have had the pleasure of inspecting several original SS Camaros with build dates starting in April 1969 and later.  In April, GM revised it’s option list for the 1969 Camaro adding “Belted RWL Tires” to their option list. One very nice Z10 L35 that I certified still had the original spare in the trunk of the car on the original dated wheel. I recorded the serial number and code and sent it to John Kelsey of Kelsey Tire who makes the Goodyear reproduction tires. John got back stating that the tire was manufactured in April of 1969 at the Gadston, AL plant. The build date of this car was April 1969. Since that Z10 car there have been others adding to this data. So, for anyone stating that a 1969 Camaro cannot have Polyglas tires is false.  If you have a 1969 Camaro SS built from April 1969 through November 1969, The Polyglas “no size” RWL tires are correct and accepted in concours judging.  John Kelsey and others also added that tire shortages during 1969 Camaro production could have got you the Polyglas tires even if the car was not ordered with the belted tire RPO code.  Plant workers that I interviewed many years ago also stated this too.  We accept the Polyglas RWL tires in “Legend” concours judging at the Camaro Nationals as long as the car was built in April of 1969 or later.

I'll post these again here.  Taken in the Legend Survivor class at the Camaro Nats this past June.  Two untouched cars.  The paint adhesion problem is clear in these photos but it appears that the whole housing was painted when these cars were assembled.

I posted many photos just a couple of months ago about this topic.  It appears that most were painted along with the fly wheel shield.  I think one of the issues that throws many off about the paint process is that there was not good adhesion with the paint on the bell housing so one that may look like it was barely painted could have been fully painted Chevrolet orange, but all these years later, the paint may have come off in many areas.  We had several nice original cars in the "Legend Survivor" class at the Camaro Nationals this past June and I posted photos.

DT is original to the car.  I checked it out at BJ in Scottsdale earlier this year.  Someone did a color change and this car was in the Bob Howard collection.  I don't know him.

Buyer in Scottsdale had buyer's remorse and didn't hear about the trim tag when they announced it in the original auction.  BJ did state that when it went on the block.

Hans, that's your call.  I would never replicate an exterior body color on the firewall but that's just my opinion.  In my 44 years of being around these cars, yours is one of one that I've seen.

I think what this photo shows is there was a very wide variance in the quality control of Z28 stripes and the way they were applied.  I would say that most of the remaining Z28 population has been modified or painted since they were built.  Survivors are important but even they vary in the way paint was applied.  I get this question from my client base all the time.

I think my friend's car, Mike Thompson who bought this rally green Z new must have had a Monday built car.  I have seen some original cars worst than this one, but this one is pretty bad.  Who would want to duplicate this paint?  This photo was taken when the car was two weeks old.

I had also stated this in my '67-68 Camaro fact book.  Most educated high performance gear heads knew not to order the factory gauges.  All of the hot rod magazines of the day also bashed the factory gauges.  SW and Sun what were used back in the day.

Brian, just so you and the others know.  I have tried to keep my prices reasonable and affordable to everyone.  Rates have been at $500 a day plus expenses for the past 12 years or so.  Through use of my data analysis, I can verify if the drive train is original to the car, check for a rebodied car, verify any and all components as real or reproduction or replacement.  You'll receive a three to four page report from me once I'm done with my inspection work.  I treat every car just like I'm judging any restored or survivor Camaro at the Camaro Nationals.  I captain the team at this event and judge multiple cars in the "Legends" Restored Class and "Legends" Survivor Class every year.  When spending over $20k and up for any classic car, it's good insurance to know what you have is the real deal.  My reports also act as a certified appraisal on the vehicle too.  I am state licensed and nationally licensed through the International Antique Automobile Appraisers Association too.

A few years back, I purchased a 1958 Fender Stratocaster guitar just like the one that the legendary Buddy Holly played before he was killed.  I know music as I've been around it my whole life but before I pulled the trigger on a very expensive original museum quality '58 Stratocaster, I reached out to an expert in that field so I had piece of mind about the purchase.  Vintage instruments are as costly as vintage automobiles. 

I know of too many people in the hobby who get burning every month.  It is not getting better, it's getting worse.  Barrett Jackson brought me on board last year to help weed out any fakes that are brought to the auction.  They too are tired of all the misrepresented cars.

As on late, there is a fake L89 that I inspected in 2009 that has been making the rounds at auctions.  The car still gets listed as a real L89.  Go figure. 

Very sad, but a reality of the hobby.
