General Discussion / '67 Z28 At Cecil County
« on: September 15, 2009, 02:25:50 AM »
Thought the CRG folks might like this.  Shot three weeks ago at Cecil County on Sunday morning.  2200 feet corrected altitude.  I hope to get the D/Stock record in the Fall.  Stock 302 Z28 engine blue printed, 3200 lbs.  Best video I have so far thanks to Kerry Stanley.  Kerry also did all the sheet metal work on the car.  Fenders have not fallen off yet due to the wheel stands.........LOL

General Discussion / CHP in Clovis, NM
« on: September 09, 2009, 02:26:44 PM »
We arrived in Clovis, NM yesterday afternoon.  We are playing at the Clovis Music Festival.  Not easy to get here from MD but we might be hooking up with Rich Fields as he is trying to come to the show on Thursday night.  A lot depends on how his dad is doing in Albuquerque.  I am amazed to see so many famous acts on the bill for Thursday night along with us, Jimmy Gilmer & The Fireballs.  Weather is perfect and no humidity.  Great racing weather but at 4200 feet altitude, wouldn't be very fast here.  LOL.

Just a heads up that I got to see some exciting class elimininations in NHRA's Stock Eliminator. Two of the best runs offs were B/SA and D/S, in the battle of the 1967 Z28's and L78's.  Underdog, Ben Wenzel defeated John Duzac for the D/S class win with a .002 reaction time and a 10.74 ET over Duzac's 10.71.  I got some great photos.

And the other big exciting win was the B/Stock Automatic class.  They had 16 cars in this class with Fords, Chryslers and Chevrolets. This is usually one of the most populated classes in Stock Eliminator.  In the end it was east coast vs west coast and both cars were 1969 L78 Camaros.  Jim Beaudreu won with a hole shot .013 light to CA's Jimmy DeFrank's .050 light.  ETs were a 10.23 to a 10.28.  This was the last run of the day and very exciting to watch in person.  Congratulations to both Ben Wenzel and Jim Beaudreu!

General Discussion / RE: PBS MOTORWEEK TV
« on: August 26, 2009, 05:01:33 PM »
Just wanted to let everyone know that Motorweek did an interview with me last month.  It's all about bringing the Camaro back into production and they spot lighted my '67 Z28 survivor.  Craig Singhaus did the interview and is local to my area, Maryland.  Show will air on Oct 10, 2009.  I have no idea how everything turned out as I have not seen the finished product.  It was a long day of shooting when they were here.

I would have preferred them using the new 67 Z28 race car and a 10 second pass down the race track but that's not what they wanted.

« on: August 05, 2009, 01:16:48 AM »
On a Camaro road trip in Long Island, NY.  Just bought a complete original L72 engine out of one of the surviving Yenko 427 cars.  19N615842.

Will rebuild and detail it here at CHP, dyno and then find the current owner of the car.

General Discussion / Ben Wenzel, MacNeish Qualifiying Session
« on: August 04, 2009, 01:54:26 AM »
Here's a couple of photos from last week at the NHRA Columbus, OH divisional points race.  Ben and I got to go down the track together in qualifying.  Two Tahoe turquooise '67 Z28's going down the track together.  That is something that you won't see everyday.

Had a great time out there with Ben and Dave Wenzel.

General Discussion / Delaware Camaro Show, June 7, 2009
« on: June 05, 2009, 01:29:39 PM »
Looking forward to seeng everyone at the Delaware Camaro show in Wilmington, DE this coming Sunday, June 7th.  I'm bringing the new Tahoe Turquoise 1967 Z28 "Rocket Ship" to the show for all to see.  Track performance with the new 302 Stocker engine has been off the charts in the new '67 Z28 and that is why I want all Camaro enthusiasts to check it out.  Should be able to set the NHRA D/Stick record in the 10.40 zone this fall.

Two of your club members, Kerry Stanley and Jimmy Wadkins did all of the sheet metal work on the new hot rod.  They're work is second to none!

Will have brand new t-shirts and polo shirts available at the show to help promote the new car.

We will also be racing at the Englishtown NHRA National Event starting on June 11th.  There are class eliminations for Stock Eliminator at this event.  If you've never been to a race to see the Stockers in action, make plans to attend.

See you Sunday,

Jerry

Didn't get close to the national record at the Richmond race because the air was bad.  About 2300 feet corrected altitude.  Car ran 10.70's in this air at 122 mph.  Still very good and in good air would put me in the low to mid 10.50's.

I did get the suspension issues worked out.  No more tire spin.  Check out the photo.  1.44 60 ft times.  Had to change my underware when I let the clutch out on this pass.  Hard to beleive cars will do this with nine inch tires.  Best working race car that I've ever owned!

Enjoy,

Jerry

General Discussion / Home Depot Cruise Night, Eldersburg, MD
« on: April 26, 2009, 01:49:12 PM »
Got all of the work done on the new race car.  Drove it to Home Depot last night.  We only live about one mile from Home Depot so open headers and slicks were not a problem.  I nailed it coming into the lot and it went from 2500 rpms to about 8000 in one second.......at least it seemed that way.  New front suspenion work and Moroso coil springs will pull the front wheels very easily as it did last night.  Wife did not like this ride.

Will try and set the NHRA national record for D/Stock in Richmond, VA next week.  Have to go better than a 10.54.  The car went 10.64 on the second outing last year.

General Discussion / RE: 302 City
« on: March 25, 2009, 03:15:47 AM »
Hey Guys,

Here is something that you won't see very often...........three original 302 engines from a '67, '68, and 69 Z28.  Thought this was a cool photo to post here.  One of the 302's made 365 hp with an .040" head gasket.  As you can see, the new hot rod is apart.

Hey Guys,

One of the biggest 1950’s and ’60’s rock n’ roll line ups in modern history will take place at the end of the month for the Buddy Holly Tribute weekend. The Surf Ballroom has been doing tribute concerts since 1978 and this year marks the 50th anniversary of the plane crash that took the lives of some of rock n’ rolls most promising young stars. The Surf Ballroom is still going strong all these years later.

We (Jimmy Gilmer & The Fireballs) were honored to be a part of the activities and will play on the show Friday night. I’m humbled just to be a part of this historic event and in the company of so many artists that I listened to as a kid. Being a part of this event is almost as good as a 10 second pass in the new 1967 Z28 D/ Stock race car! Very close!

Don’t know if anyone from CRG is attending. If you are, look me up. We will be staying at the Best Western in Clear Lake, Iowa. Wednesday Jan 29th through Feb 3rd.

The special guest star rumors are all over the map. P. McCartney and Ringo Starr are and have always been big Buddy Holly fans and there is a real possibility that they will be here. There is also Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Springsteen, and a possible reunion of Dion & The Belmonts.

In any event, this rock n’ roll extravaganza promises to be magical to say the least. Serius-XM Radio will be there in full force along with plenty of local TV coverage and many FM oldies radio stations from all over the county.

Rock On,

Jerry

General Discussion / RE: A.D. Anderson Chevrolet, Baltimore, MD
« on: December 30, 2008, 06:33:57 PM »
Talked with an author yesterday who is writing a book on Chevrolet dealerships. There will be a chapter written on A.D. Anderson Chevrolet and he is looking for info and photos. If anyone here has any photos or interesting data related to this dealership, contact me. 410-781-0418.

For anyone growing up in the Baltimore area, A.D. Anderson was one of the biggest performance dealers in the region. They sold many COPO cars, one dusk blue ZL-1, many solid lifter Corvettes and some of the first 67 Z28s produced.

Any help appreciated,

Jerry
