Same thing. I found a heater core for my 67 at the local parts store for $35. Bring your old one for comparison.

General Discussion / Vintage 67 Camaro pics
« on: September 24, 2006, 07:09:33 PM »
The vintage GM photos in the scanned USCC article I posted in the headlamp motor discussion are interesting in their own right. Here they are again, but not so reduced as in the fullpage scans. Enjoy.

Sure looks like a 68 grille to me, but could be the lighting:

What's 'wrong' with this picture:

Check out the stripe treatment:

This could be your mom:

By the way, the 'texture' on the scanned photos is from the paper they were printed on.

Here's a related article I just scanned from Camaro Corral 1990-91. It's a detailed article on 67 headlamp motor assemblies and troubleshooting. Unfortunately, I only scanned 3 pages not realizing the article was 'continued' on page 61 but by that time, I already returned the magazines to the owner. Oh well. Hope this helps:

Here's a photo I found of a clutch return spring on a 67 small block (no, not mine).

Actually, the car got painted a couple of months ago, shortly after I made the initial posting. Cowl area and wiper transmission assemblies were done consistent with feedback from owners of original paint cars and experts such as those here online and others like Macneish. This is the only picture I have of the work in progress:

Restoration / Re: 1967 Washer Pump
« on: September 13, 2006, 05:27:24 AM »
Transcript of a message I wrote to someone on eBay called Joe who sold me an alleged 67 wiper motor and pump assembly. This includes very nice pictures and description of what to look for:

Joe:

Here is a copy of a page from the 1967 Camaro Factory Assembly Instruction Manual. This page shows the W/S wiper motor and pump assembly. The PN is shown in the top part of the photo, PN 5045508 for the MOTOR & PUMP ASM.

Following picture is a side-by-side comparison of the eBay assembly compared to an original assembly out of a 1967 Camaro. Note that the part # shown above in the factory assembly manual is stamped on the original assembly's motor cover, 5045508. Although the eBay motor cover seems to have the same overall dimensions, it doesn't have a part number.

Also apparent is the different washer pump assemblies. The eBay washer pump cover is block-shaped and doesn't have the unique and distinctuve 1967 "bump" which is clear in the photo of the original unit, and in the factory assembly manual above.

Here is a second picture of the two assemblies, side by side. Not only is the eBay pump cover a different shape, but the entire washer pump (underneath the cover) is different. Notice the difference in where the electrical prongs exit the cover.

Here, in the third side-by-side photo taken from the firewall side, you can see the different mounting plate shapes. The eBay assembly is on the left and the original assembly on the right.

Originality / Re: 1967 SS350 Fuel Pump #'s

Thanks Guys!

So if my car is built 4th week Jan. '67 would that be considered a "late" build date?

I have an all-original 01E (week after yours) LOS-built SS 350 car. Pump is the 524. I think the other earlier model uses a smaller diameter fuel line but don't quote me on that.

Rich is probably referring to the hood hinge spring, not hood latch spring. ;)

I meant the big spring on the hood itself. Here's a pic I took a couple of days ago of an original paint car. Pic is blurry but you can see the black spring.

Dave, I think that's a different Palmetto than the one that sells the zinc phosphate (hood hinges and latch) and manganese (bolts) plating solutions.

Contact info is:

  PALMETTO Enterprises
  2311 A Old Parker Road
  Greenville,SC 29609
  864 246 3836

The Palmetto plating solutions consist of a gallon-size jug of nasty chemical that you mix 32:1 with water, heat to 200 degrees farenheit in an aluminum or ceramic pot, then dip your freshly stripped and cleaned parts in for a few minutes. Results are well worth the effort.

Yes

I sent out the originals from my 67 for replating. Cost $500 and I ended up selling them at a swap meet for $40 because of the pitting of the pot metal where the black paint goes. Found another pair of cores and had them plated for $250 this time and they look really good.

So bottom line is expect to pay at least a couple of hundred dollars for plating but the work will only be as good as the cores you start with.

The new reproduction units look very good but they're easy to identify when the trunk is open.

Would be nice to hear from other owners of original paint cars. I was contacted by one last night where the cowl area was clearly body color and the wiper transmission ass'y was black.

I'm just about to repaint my 69 Hugger Orange SS 396 car. Car has white SS stripes and ivory/black interior.

Currently, the cowl plenum area (area under cowl panel where the wiper linkage is located) is painted body color with the wiper linkage also painted body color.

How was this area painted originally? I saw a post wherein it was claimed the wiper transmission was installed after the body was painted but then I'm confused about whether or not the cowl and transmission linkage was blacked out or not?
