646  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Originality / Re: 0 rocker arms BIG or small 0 ? differences? on: May 01, 2013, 12:46:03 PM
At least that explains why I have a few rockers with the 'O' horizontal, vertical, small and large. Wow. Can I assume they were mixed this way on a given engine?

Chevrolet used 240,000 stamped rocker arms EVERY DAY; it's highly unlikely that there was only one supplier or one set of precision progressive-die tooling.

I found where I read it. If you have Jerry M's revised 4th edition Definitive book on page 26 there is a pic of both versions of the 'O'. It says research shows the 67 Z28 had the larger 'O' than the 68 and the 69.
648  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Originality / Spark plug shields on: May 01, 2013, 03:45:15 AM
Hi guys. Anybody have a decent clear pic of the spark plug wire shields installed on a 69 Z28? I need a pic of both exhaust manifolds for comparison purposes. My set has 2 with brackets spot welded and 2 with the brackets screwed on. Was this the norm or was there a specific position for each shield. There are no other markings except L R on each one and the 69 AIM is unclear, at least to me.
649  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Originality / Re: 1969 Camaro battery on: April 29, 2013, 11:18:30 AM
Hey Dave, what Delco battery are you using? I want to get the side post battery and cables for my 06A. I think the battery is 78-6YR, but not really sure about what cables I need. The 69 AIM has one set of part numbers, but everyone else has a different part number not the same that's in the AIM. I want to get something at some point since the top post in my car is getting old.

I have always had an inquisitve mind. I think it's a curse, it never stops wanting to ask question. I have a 10 year old grandson that's the same way. I write things down on little scraps of paper and stuff them in a folder but he carries around a note book and carefully notes, time and date and where he is. It's scary.

Dave. These cars were built with so many combinations it's unreal. If you haven't found it yet Google 'TEAM CAMARO'. That is another decent website with lots going on there.

Unfortunately my car doesn't have an endura bumper. Did you click on the link at the bottom of my post from those links I PM'd you earlier about the block? That's Team Camaro. In my sig click on 'MY Z', it's in red, I have lots of pics of my unrestored work in progress.

So you are in California or no?

Hey Gary,

im cortezz28dave over on team camaro (appropreate name dont you think, lol), join in 07, just dont post much. the z has been neglected until lately due to other projects

a 57 k mile 87 stage II grand national it, 19K mile 86 gn that i bought for $1200 as a "parts car" that was only missing the trans and right front fender but was taken apart to "restore" and never put back together, 79' shovelhead harley thats been in the family for 18 years that i got a few years back, and my big bear merc chopper that seems to need repair after every ride lol.

I did check the links you PMed me just never thought about clicking on the "My Z" till after i read your post you have a beautiful car but i maybe biased lol.

im still very interested in your block, but also waiting to hear back from a few others with closer build date, hope you dont mind not trying to lead you on.

i wanted a 69 camaro since high school, didnt care if it was a v6, was gonna build it my way a clone z in hugger with white strips, and hounds tooth, i finally got the OK from the wife (shes a gear head too and helps support my habits) to get one spent 2 year looking for something decent in my price range when all of the a sudden i found an ad 2 hours old for a "z28" spent 2hrs on the phone with seller and after about 30 pics bought the car sight unseen.  I fell in love with the car and color at first glance and now wouldnt have it any other way. just been collecting parts for when its time to go under the knife.

and yes to CA, i live just outside of Los Angeles, i have been reading a lot of your posts both here and on team, and got the answers to a lot of questions i had.  thank you for that

sorry for the long reply

Thanks
Dave

Hey Dave. This is Gary. Welcome to CRG. So your Z is Cortez Silver as well as an X77. Mine is Cortez Silver too X33 69 B 06A. I know your interested in my spare block but I won't hold you to it if you find something closer to your build date. It's tough trying to locate parts or to convince others to sell their spare stuff, but what the hey, you gotta give it a shot. This site has loads of information and for the most part everyone here has a decent attitude. Really great people. Any questions you might have just ask. If you haven't checked out the 1969 Orphans forum do so. I check it as often as I can for anything related to my VIN.
653  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Decoding/Numbers / Re: Muncie ID ? on: April 26, 2013, 12:51:31 PM
Could it be that the gang stamp would hold so many characters and something was just put in that last slot to keep everything tight? I'm just guessing here. Maybe that square c is really an E and just not squarely stamped. Looking at some pics of Muncie stampings, they do look deep on one end and light on another end and vise versa, some way to light and some so deep it looks like they were melted in. They were all stamped by hand weren't they?
654  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Maintenance / Help! Brute Power/Perfection Clutch question. on: April 25, 2013, 02:44:27 PM
Anybody use the Brute Power/Perfection clutch? I have a new kit MU1675-1 and was curious about it's durability behind a stock 302 DZ engine. I wanted the AC Delco kit but bought this instead. I hope I didn't 'F' up getting this one instead of the AC. Haven't seen much on reviews online either.
655  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Decoding/Numbers / Re: What carb date for my 06A early June Z on: April 25, 2013, 12:22:04 PM
I think anywhere from April to end of May would probably work. Ed says even the 934 would be ok. So 94X, 95X might be fine but I don't know if too close for V0604DZ. I'm hearing carbs can be dated past engine build date? Is that correct? I do have a 4519 block that came with the car when I bought it.

I have a couple of extra bodies and metering blocks I got with a car long ago... what date are you looking for?
656  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Mild Modifications / Re: Side Exhaust on my 69 on: April 25, 2013, 12:17:59 AM
I did the Thrush side pipes on my first 69 Z in 75. Not the side pipes with the fins like the Z valve covers, but the chrome set that had the louvers stamped in them. Some members here might remember them. With headers I had to have an 'S' pipe made up at Midas Mufflers to connect the collector to the side pipe muffler. It sounded like a Corvette so I yanked them off and put the stock exhaust back on. Sound way better out the back then it did coming out the sides. At some point you could get a system that had the headers and all in one sweeping flow to the side pipes. Looked way better then the Thrush side pipes, but I couldn't afford the the other ones. You could get those in chrome or black paint. Do yourself a favor, use goggles if your doing any drilling to install. I woke up the next morning after I installed mine and found I had a metal splinter in my right eye that had to be removed. Very painful. Uncle Sam didn't like that too much.
657  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Decoding/Numbers / Re: What carb date for my 06A early June Z on: April 25, 2013, 12:01:35 AM
Yeah I know. I'm currently using a service replacement now, dated 0811. I also have a 4777 650 dbl pumper I set up that works quite well if I want to fool around. I like that carb, but it makes my gas gauge needle move too fast towards empty. Works really good with the -140 cam too. I still want to find an OEM though.

you can still buy new ones..  if the date isn't as important as the function and the look... made by Holley!
658  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Decoding/Numbers / Re: What carb date for my 06A early June Z on: April 24, 2013, 07:51:49 PM
I've been looking for 13 years and have only seen maybe 3 I could bid on. All the ones that are on ebay are way over priced and restored on top of that. I'm just looking for a good core to rebuild. Somebody has to be sitting on these carbs. Or all the carbs made have been destroyed.
659  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Restoration / Re: Grill questions on: April 24, 2013, 04:58:41 PM
Same as the original grill in my car. No paint on the grill, and body color paint, Cortez Silver is on the surround.
660  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Originality / Re: Battery Side post or top question on: April 24, 2013, 03:39:42 PM
Hey guys, I've been trying to find the part number for an AC Delco side post battery for my Z and can't seem to find anything except top post and the dual top and side post. Is there a side post only battery or am I going to be stuck with the dual or a top only?
