646  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Decoding/Numbers / Re: Any info on door mirror dates. on: March 22, 2013, 06:01:31 PM
I finally got a reply from Paragon and they do install the dated glass in house. I have neither of my originals so I'm going to go for the Paragon's. I hear they are good quality. If I was to locate originals with possibly good dates they would probably be in terrible condition. I'm thinking this is the only way to go, but before I do anything I could use the opinions of you all here. Should I get them? If so, I think a 9 DMI 5 would be good for the driver side but I'm up in the air for what date on the passenger side. I'm thinking after my build date by a couple of weeks, which still would be a June date 9 DMI 6. My car is an early first week 06A built Z.

Well it turns out that I do have a 'Crimped' CV 746 C PCV, just not a purple one. Those originals from what I have seen ARE expensive if you can find them. On the purple color ones there have been a few post on that color being correct and ones that say it isn't. Heck, even HBC has them advertised as being correct for the 69 302, but those are crimped as well. I believe it was also used on the 70, 72-74 Z28's as well, but who knows for sure. Did AC Delco start making them crimped by the 70's?

Hey Gary, you and I were the only ones to bid on that manual. I had put in a bid for another one earlier and the seller sent me an email saying it was a first edition and the back cover was torn and he would understand if I wanted to retract my bid, so I did. That's when I posted my question here. I find it hard to post against someone I met here or T.C. It's a pretty tough decision to make knowing someone else needs that part too, but on the other hand I needed it, so it would have been WAR man. LOL Smiley

Thanks guys. Well I won the third edition, April 1969 manual I bid on on ebay. $12.19 plus $3.70 shipping. Hopefully others will see this post and we can see how many editions were actually printed. Really has me curious now. Maybe we can add this information to CRG for reference?

I was going to bid against you, but I let the end time slip past me..  Smiley

OK Ed. I'll keep you posted.

Yes,  please. It was around that time frame when Donnelly changed their date code from DMI (Donnelly Mirror Inc) to DCA (Donnelly Corporation of America).

Ed,

Do you want the date even though it is a 1977 mirror? I can sure give it a try. It may take a few days to get around to it though. I may have a few others, but I'll have to dig them out. I just have to remember where I put them.

Yes, rectangular mirrors were still being used in 1977 on a lot of Chevrolet, Pontiac, Buick, etc... models.

Would it be possible to get a high resolution shot of the date code? I'm STILL working on the mirror report and need a few date examples. My email address is in my profile.

Thanks
Ed

Actually that is what I'm trying to find out. I've been to their website and contacted them through their website email but haven't recv'd a reply yet. I need mirrors, so I may as well get them from Paragon. I heard they were the best. I have one mirror the is a terrible repro, no date, and a mirror dated 2 DMI 7. I'm curious about this mirror though. When did GM start using the rectangular mirrors? I don't think its a 1967 date. Maybe 1977? Was GM using this mirror into the 1977 model year? I'll have to google that. I think the bullet mirrors were out by then. Hmmmm..curious.

Google Paragon and search- Exterior Rear View Mirror Glass. They will date code the mirror for you to install in your own base, or I'm sure you can buy a complete assembly with dated glass already installed.

I sent Paragon email from there site but haven't recv'd a reply as of today. Has anyone bought a door mirror from them, if so, is the dated glass installed by them or does the customer have to do it.

Sorry guys haven't found the pic of my 69 SS. I have 'A LOT' of pictures to look through. If I remember correctly the 350/300 in my SS was 4 bolt but it had the 441 heads and q-jet carb. No camel humps.

Hi guys. Ever consider on adding a Wanted or Looking for forum, maybe as a sub section under each orphans forum?

Was just looking at that. Why would there be 4 different bidders on that? Only one would have the car with that VIN I would think? Unless they are just after the printed paper.

Didn't see this mentioned. How durable is the shirt material? Is it thick or thin and who makes the shirts?

I was looking at that same chart the other day. It is really hard to tell between the darker colors. Glacier Blue is out I had one that color before. I looked at the charts in that Impala website 'lakeholme' posted but it's hard to tell by that as well. That is a nice color. Easy on the eyes.

Another possibility that appears closer to that Caprice shade to me is Lemans Blue Poly.   a bit lighter than the very dark Dusk Blue.
here is a link that has color charts and codes...

Yeah, me too. My dad bought a 2 door Fathom Green Impala with the 350 in 69. Loved it so much I have since had a 4 door Gold/Gold/Gold Caprice with a 350/300 engine in 82 and when my wifes pop-pop died I acquired his 4 door Glacier Blue/White 'PAINTED" top/ medium blue with 327 Belair. For a family car you really can't beat them. I really would like to find another decent driver 2 door Impala but I never see them around here.

Brings back memories - I had a '69 Caprice coupe just like that except it was Fathom Green with a black vinyl top, 427, loaded to the gills, Comfortron A/C, etc; it was like a Cadillac with Chevy emblems on it.   Grin

I'm leaning towards Dusk Blue. Aure Turquoise is a lighter and different shade of blue altogether.

Looks dusk blue to me, but you might want to try These Guys.
They should know all about the First Gen Caprice.
