Decoding/Numbers / Any info on door mirror dates.
« on: March 17, 2013, 01:20:27 AM »
Haven't seen much info anywhere on this...Is there anything noted here on CRG about door mirror date codes? Did the factory install both left and right or just the left and the dealer installed the right? If the dealer installed the right was it dated as well? I need to find dated mirror/s for my 06A early June car and trying to figure out if the ones on my car are correct and if not what dates do I need to look for.

Originality / 69 owners manual question.
« on: March 13, 2013, 05:42:47 PM »
I'm in the market for an OEM owners manual for my 06A Z and I have noticed that all the ones I have seen on ebay are First Edition August 68's. Were there other dates printed or was that First Edition use throughout the whole production run?

Originality / Solenoid number for 69 Z28
« on: March 12, 2013, 04:17:47 AM »
Is the solenoid for the 69Z 1108367 starter number 1114362? I know inside the cap can be rebuilt but what about the main body insides. Not even sure what it does actually. How do you find out if a solenoid is even working after you replace the contact disc and stuff? Anybody restore these?

Maintenance / PCV question
« on: March 11, 2013, 04:59:01 AM »
Never hear or read much about these little items, so I thought I would ask.

Just wondering about the PCV's. What can be said about them? Are they all the same? Can you just put any old valve in place of the one that was installed at the factory? I noticed the ones on ebay today, the purple ones for the 69 Z28's, those are repro's but other then the color are they correct?

How about starter solenoids? I'm not even sure I have the original on my starter, number on it is 1114362, which needs a rebuild, but what is being used to replace a bad one? I know you can take them apart and put a new disc in and all that but what about the main body, how do you repair that? Is it possible?

Restoration / Older washer bottles
« on: March 09, 2013, 10:21:51 PM »
Would there be a problem if I put an old washer bottle in a bleach water solution to take away some of the stain and yellowing? I remember my mom  doing this to clean some of her kitchen stuff like tupperware and the like when it got stained. also, has anyone ever replaced the screen on the filter? Mine is toast and laying in the bottom of the bottle.

Thanks guys.

Decoding/Numbers / Carolina Blue 67 RS Camaro
« on: March 08, 2013, 11:40:29 PM »
Hi Guys. I found something interesting today and thought I would pass it on.

I found a flat hood for sale on Delaware Craigslist in really nice condition for $50.00. So I went to pick it up and the guy had a 67 RS Black Vinyl Top, medium blue interior, console, 327/210, auto, and a/c. The real treat was the O-2 paint code. Car is painted Carolina Blue which he said is the original color. I didn't bring a camaro and didn't have my phone to get a pic of anything, but I did tell him about CRG and TC, so hopefully he'll join us. Car is restored and really looks great.

General Discussion / Muncie question M20 and M21
« on: February 27, 2013, 05:45:38 PM »
Hey guys. Set me straight on this will ya. I have a Muncie, P9E28B, 660 case, that has 2 rings on the input shaft. I don't know the history of it. I thought the M21 had 1 ring. Am I missing something? or is it possible the trans has been gone over? Appearance wise it looks like all Muncies I have come across that are dirty and crusty with road grime. Any thoughts on this? I was told it was an M21. Is there another way to tell without opening it up? Can the input shaft be spun and the output be counted for so many turns like you can do with figuring what gears are in a rear?

Originality / 4053 Carb question.
« on: February 26, 2013, 03:33:24 AM »
Hey guys, I've been looking at 4053 carbs really hard the past couple of days on ebay. Some say 'ORIGINAL' and some say new. What kind of differences are there between an original and the new ones that are being sold. Two things I see that are claring on both is, no sight holes on the float bowls  to check float level and the dash pot, some call it a vacuum take off, the tit is straight on the new ones and curved on the originals. Anything else that is different? I suppose things get changed thru time but if you are looking for a complete original core like I am you you really have to know what your looking for. Anybody have any pics to share of all aspects of the 4053? I want to find a core to rebuild myself for my car, but what I see is nill on that and the prices for so called restored or new carbs are over the top...for me anyway.

Thanks

Restoration / Where to send starter for rebuild.
« on: February 22, 2013, 09:13:02 PM »
Can anyone recommend someone that could rebuild my factory Z starter? I'm just looking to have it rebuilt and NOT restored. I have done a few in the past myself but I want an expert to check mine out. It's been sitting a long time and not sure what all it needs. Can't find anyone locally to do it.

Thanks.

Originality / Question about gas gauge resistor
« on: February 14, 2013, 11:22:34 PM »
Hello everybody. I have had this nagging question for awhile and I hope someone here can answer this for me. First a little history...

The console fuel gauge on my 69 Z only registers to just over a 1/4 tank even when it is full. When the fuel level gets to that point driving the car the gauge starts working again. I know I may have a problem possibly with the sending unit and have gone thru all the test that have been recommended on CRG and TC. I've had the sending unit out of the tank testing and in the tank testing. When I test the gauge and the sending unit together out of the tank it works fine, but when I put everything back together it performs as it always has...just over 1/4 tank and stops. When I drive the car, making turns and all that and I know I'm getting close to that mark on the gauge the low fuel light comes on and I know the gauge is working. I can't tell you how many times I have pulled all this stuff out to fix this issue. Electrical has never been my strong suit but I am not a 'TOTAL' idiot.

The nagging question I have is the use of or not use of the resister. If the resister is installed the gas gauge gives me a totally different action then if it isn't installed. I fooled around with this all last summer with no clarifications on whether I needed this resister or not. Were there different gauge manufacturers, or is the resister for the standard fuel gauges on the 67-68-69's or for the gauge package for the 68 only console? I have 2 original console gauges, neither one has a resister on the back of it and I'm not sure why I even bought it.

Anybody have any thoughts on this? I'm still trying to fix this issue and currently in the market for a new fuel sending unit. Are NAPA's any good?

Thanks guys.

Decoding/Numbers / Gas tank date question.
« on: September 12, 2010, 09:23:58 PM »
Has there been anything concrete yet about the date code on the gas tanks? Unless I missed it I haven't seen anything in print except for the main post where the 'list' is. What I understand from that is the first number/s is the week stamped and then the year. Mine says 41 69 so can I assume April 1st or the 41st week of the model year which turns out to be around April 1st, maybe.

Just curious.

General Discussion / Car assembly question
« on: August 08, 2010, 03:15:08 PM »
I've had some questions banging around for a while. How was it desided how a car was to be built if it wasn't special ordered for a customer? Not all the Camaros built were customer ordered correct? Did the dealers order them the way they wanted or did Chevrolet have some kind of system?

Thanks

Decoding/Numbers / Camaro for database
« on: March 19, 2010, 10:47:21 AM »
KurtS...Found this 69 Camaro at a local used car lot yesterday. Non power drum brakes, manual steering, 4 speed, console no gages, a/c. Not a restored car and the TT appears to not have been touched.

General Discussion / Older post on O rods
« on: February 14, 2010, 11:04:16 PM »
I was just reading the lengthy post on the O rods and was curious about the X rods that I have seen. Are they any good. Any info on these? I just put a set of these in my 302. Should I replace?

Here is the post.
