Originality / Starter nose for Z28 starter

Hey guys, I posted on this subject at TC but I wanted to touch base with you all here as well. Not even sure I'm allowed to do this on CRG and I find it's more of a request and questions too. Is it neccesary for that tip on the aluminum starter nose to be closed? I found that I have a BOP(driver side installed instead of passenger side) aluminum nose on the Z starter I have. It is for the 153 tooth flywheel and has the straight across mounting bolt holes. It does however have the tip open so you can see the very end of the armature rod where the bearing is. All the spare starter noses I have are open this way. Are these broken or are they built this way? I know I'll have to remove the Pontiac nose for a Chevy nose when I rebuild the starter, so I tried to order one from GMPARTSDIRECT and found they are discontinued. Anyone have one to sell? or can I use the open tip nose?

Originality / Spark plug shields

Hi guys. Anybody have a decent clear pic of the spark plug wire shields installed on a 69 Z28? I need a pic of both exhaust manifolds for comparison purposes. My set has 2 with brackets spot welded and 2 with the brackets screwed on. Was this the norm or was there a specific position for each shield. There are no other markings except L R on each one and the 69 AIM is unclear, at least to me.

Maintenance / Help! Brute Power/Perfection Clutch question.

Anybody use the Brute Power/Perfection clutch? I have a new kit MU1675-1 and was curious about it's durability behind a stock 302 DZ engine. I wanted the AC Delco kit but bought this instead. I hope I didn't 'F' up getting this one instead of the AC. Haven't seen much on reviews online either.

Originality / Radio delete cover screws question.

Hey guys, anyone know what would be the screws needed to install the radio delete cover? I found a number in the 69 AIM and tried to find it on the AMK website and it is not listed. HBC don't offer the screws and washers by themselves either. I was thinking maybe the same screw that is used to attach the Camaro name plate with the grab bar on the dash over the glove box but the washers would be too small.

Originality / Battery Side post or top question

I was doing some reading just now and touched on the battery write up. Was there actually a firm date as to when the side mount battery was installed? I clearly don't have a clue what came in my first week of June 06A Z since the cables in it aren't originals. I haven't decided whether or not I want to get the spring ring cabes. I heard they can get damaged if not properly installed or removed. The side mount on the other hand does look cleaner and easier to R & R.

Anybody know how to tell the difference between a GM front license plate bracket and a reproduction? I have a chance to buy a GM bracket but seller can't say for sure if GM. There is AAC stamped on it.

Hi guys. Is a 4053 dated 934 too far out for my 06A early, as in 653104, June Z? I'm looking at one now I would like to pick up if the date is ok.

Originality / Z28 grill and tailpanel emblem question.

Are these emblems the same for the grill and tailpanel? I just bought a used set and was told original. Both fender emblems have CBC C-1 P-3949968, and the supposed front and rear have 8745869  9901 with one emblem having a number 1 (silver paint 28) and the other having a number 2 (white paint 28) cast in it. Here is the link were I got them.

Originality / ZL/2 breather wing nut question.

Been reading the posts and replys on the original carb stud for the "cowl induction" breather. Is the supplied stud with the reproduction set up close or no? How about the one HBC provides? Also it seems no one is supplying the wing nut anywhere, is it available? All parts on my Z are original GM pieces but not original to the car except the stud, breather/lid, valve cover tube, and wing nut, those are reprocuction my wife bought me 10 years ago.

Originality / Black paint on rocker question.

Was checking this car out since the ebay auction stated that it was original paint car and noticed that in the pics I don't see any black paint on the rockers. IF this a is an original paint car would the plant actually miss painting this? Would this happen? My car is a Cortez Silver car with maybe 3 repaints but the rockers were never repainted and am curious if I should add the black or leave it off.

Maintenance / M55A oil pump question revisited.

I know this has been talked about alot but I'm still trying to figure out what oil pump I want to use for my DZ engine. HBC advertises a Melling pump. I sent email to inquire about which model and they offer the M55A which they say they never had a problem with. I was thinking on using the Melling Select 10553 but was curious if Melling finally went back to using the older casting on the M55A versus the newer one that I heard was breaking in HP engines. Anybody have anything to add to this? HBC is asking around $75.00 for the M55A and the Selects are about $20.00 more at Summit and Jegs.

So far everything I have read dates back quite a few years on this subject.

Originality / Correct Cowl Induction coil bracket question.

Is this the correct coil bracket with Cowl Induction? I was looking at the bracket that HBC offers and there is a difference. Can anyone confirm this?
