General Discussion / Re: More 69 Z/28 Ebay fraud
« on: January 06, 2015, 01:44:10 AM »
I wasn't saying that the tag wasn't fake, I was just wondering if I missed anything else on it. I'm hoping to buy myself a 1969 Z/28 someday and am trying to learn as much as I can so I don't end up on the wrong side of the deal someday.  ;D BTW what was the ballpark date on spoilers becoming mandatory on Z/28's? I read on the CRG site that they did became mandatory late in production but couldn't find the ballpark date.

General Discussion / Re: car that lost its barn!

Since we're talking about Corvettes, here is another heartbreaker for ya! Guys from SW Virginia may already know about this one. My friend told me he found a supposed matching numbers '67 big block roadster. I didn't believe him at first so he ended up giving me the directions to where it was at so I could check it out for myself. Decided to take a drive out there and check it out and lo and behold there it was, a Lynndale blue 67 roadster with a hardtop sitting beside a trailer just sinking into the Virginia mud. My friend ended talking with the owner and the car is not for sale. He did find out that the owner bought the car in the early 70's and ended up having some mechanical problems with it and parked it with the intention of fixing it someday but it never happened. The owner confirmed that it is a tri-power car but my buddy didn't ask if it was an L71 or L68 car. He let my friend look at the car and he said it looks like it is all there with the original paint.  It's a shame to have it sitting out like that. You would at least think he would cover it up. Here are a couple pictures I took of it when I went to see it.

Wow! I like it! Would like to have seen the trim tag though. To all the Camaro gurus out there, could you get any color you wanted to with the special order paint? I though a lot of these cars came in just primer. The Carolina blue Z/28 is the only real oddball special order paint car I know about.

Yeah that's what the wife says too! I've got a good hunch though that if I sold one she would want to use the money somewhere else then so long Camaro! Besides I've had the 67 since I was 16 and the 69 is in process. Maybe when the 69 is done I could part with it but I'm attached to the 67. The C-10 is just a driver for around town and needs a bit of work itself.

Burnished Brown is one of my favorite colors from 69 along with Rallye Green. Saw a Burnished Brown 1969 Z/28 a couple years back at the Charlotte fall swap meet for sale. It was a really nice car and there was a good price tag on it! Maybe someday I'll find one in my price range although for the amount I can afford it will have to be towed home!  ;D

Decoding/Numbers / Re: Ebay "COPO" trim tag for sale
« on: August 12, 2014, 01:22:45 AM »
Oops! Thanks guys! Wasn't sure if it was second or third week on the X-codes so I went with third to be safe. Any documented cars that anyone knows of with an earlier X-code prior to the second week?

Yes it can. My base 307 coupe is tagged as an X44 which is the code for a base model camaro. All Norwood camaros had the X codes starting around the third week of December 1968.

Restoration / Re: New body?
« on: August 06, 2014, 01:35:16 AM »
I wish I had some more shots of that car. I don't think he would have wanted it!  ;D If I remember right just about the entire floorpan was gone and the subframe on the drivers side had rotted through. The trunk pan was also gone along with a lot of the inner framework of both doors. The shed's roof where the car was stored had caved in some time in the late 70's and I believe the top was down the whole time. Even the seat frames were corroded through. I know it sold on eBay for mid-teens the first time I saw it and then it turned up again several months later for sale in a different state with a price in the mid twenties. (I am an eBay addict  :) ) I think it proved to much for someone and they decided to let it go.

Ermine White with a blue interior is a really nice combo! I'd definitely make the purchase if everything checked out and I had the cash. Actually, I'd take any color combination first gen Z/28 but the color combos you don't see often really make me drool!  ;D

I've thought about this question myself. I guess it would come down to what you want...a nice street cruiser or a matching numbers car. For a nice cruiser a repro body may be the best way to go. Less hassle and work involved by not having to complete endless hours of bodywork. But my thought is, say you find a matching numbers Z/28 or SS/RS convertible. Everything is there, matching engine, transmission, rearend, etc...the downside is the body looks like it went down with the Titanic or was the local champ in a demolition derby. In this case how would a restored car with a reproduction body be viewed at say a show like the Camaro Nationals. Would it be considered a matching numbers car since the body is not original? I bring this up because not to long ago there was a 1969 Rallye Green SS/RS 396 convertible on eBay that was wrecked in the 70's and parked in a shed where the roof proceeded to fall in on the car. It had to be one of the roughest cars I've ever seen but it was totally original. Nothing had been touched on it or removed but there wasn't a useable body panel on the car. Would like to hear some thoughts on this or have some Camaro Nationals judges chime in.

Good looking car but if the trim tag says EE for the paint code it was originally painted Fathom Blue.

Did you happen to see what kind of vacuum your engine was pulling at idle? You typically size a power valve at 1/2 your engine vacuum at idle. With a 6.5 valve your pulling around 13" of vacuum at an idle. So with a 2.5 you would only be around 5" of vacuum at idle. At light cruising and idle, the power valve is closed because your vacuum is above the power valve rating. It doesn't open until WOT or when your vacuum drops below the valves rating and then allows fuel to flow through the power valve channel restrictor enriching your fuel mixture. They are basically a vacuum operated on and off switch for fuel. So with a 2.5" valve its not going to open until you drop below 2.5" of vacuum. Remember, an engine makes its most vacuum at idle and at WOT throttle its least amount of vacuum.

Yep, you're correct. Just saw all the brackets and plate for sale on the Rick's Camaro website.
