Yeah... that sounds like an almost tragedy! Electrical systems are always being "rigged" up because most normal back yard mechanics dont realive the importance of them. Do a full inspection on it. U shouldnt have a hard time finding any replacement harnesses for it. And get that starter wire fixed... if ya have no starter wire, your starter dosent work, if your starter dosent work, you cant START your car, and if you cant do that u cant DRIVE your car.... and that just takes all the fun outa owning a camaro!

Yes there should be seam sealer in the rivets, i believe it was black in color... I may be mistaken. Did the tag get removed or were the rivets just cleaned out?

MCKENZIEDAVE... this eBay auction is for a set of similar tags for a 1966 Olds 442 Tri-Carb. However if you contact the seller mikes442...he may be able to help you on a source for these..i have done biusines with mikes442 before, I own a 1970 W30 442 also, and he is a nice guy if he can help...its worth a shot! Let us know if u find a source!

IMO i think that someone needs to write year specific reference books for the ast gens. Think... the muscle cars are booming so it would definately have a chance to sell. Plus we all need a nem modern corrected book for specific years...make them multi author if it was desired...combine all the knowledge!

Durn...bertfam.. i was bidding on that book by hooper that was on eBay... i watched it through the last few seconds... there was a major bidding war going on there.. i decided to pass once the bids went past $35... it ended at $52.56 ...whoa thats major change for an outdated book... do they usually get this high?

Ok... trying to build up my "resource and reference" area of my upcoming resto on my firts car...my 1968 camaro. So far i have the Assembly manual, and alot of parts vendors books...ricks, year one, paddok, classic industries, etc... i plan on getting the following as well:

1. The wiring diagram manual
2. the chassis service manual
3. the fishey body service manual
4. the overhaul manual...(if i can find a copy)
5. Chevorlet by the numbers 65-69
6. Camaro..by Bill holder
7. 67-69 Camaro restoration guide..by Jason Scott
8. Origional Camaro..by jason scott
9. A bishko reprint of the parts book

Does any one on here have any more recomendations on literature?

Also... does ANYONE know where i can get a copy of "The 1967-1968 Camaro Reference Book From A to Z" i used to have a copy of this book but have lost it... everyone says it is out of print... i really want a copy if any one has one they would part with or knows where i could get my hands on a copy i would greatly appreciate it!!!

General Discussion / Re: Still confused on Smog systems!!!!
« on: March 28, 2006, 04:36:27 PM »
lakeholme... as far as the numbers matching thing.... im going to try to get all the casting numbers to matc as well as the date codes if possible... the only #'s that wont match will bb the block and trans vin stamps.... sure i could have them machined and restamped.... but i DISSAGREE WITH THIS practice very much... the only time a block should be decked is if it is warped beyour usable limit... and even then i am biased on whether it should be restamped...

Very good post lakeholme u brought up some very interesting questions.... also u brought to my attenton the gas milage issue. I want my car to drive AND feel as if it were straight frome the dealership in 1968!!! Its a sence of internal joy that i am after. I am going to use as many used parts as possible to help achieve that "mental bliss" that I am in seek of with my car... if i leave off something like the smog system... then i will know that it should be there...but it isnt... my car is all about 1)Restoring a piece of automotive history and 2)Bring my first car to a mint condition state... without overlooking a single factor.

Thanks,
David Gregory
