sdkar... might get a better response if ya post this one over at the Team Camaro site... most of the people over here are Originality Diehards.... but IMO if you are gonna get an aftermarket subframe... go ahead with the dropped spindles.

Restoration / Primer recomendations....
« on: May 02, 2006, 09:25:55 PM »
Hi all.... I have spent the past few days reworkin and origional Non-RS 68 fender. I know its crazy but i got around 20 hours in this fender and it didnt have a single dent in it to start with! But it was rusted out in the back and a little spot bout the size of a penny on the front. I have worked very hard and the repairs are 100% undetectable and the isnt a single spot of bondo or filler anywhere on it. Id ven go as far to say it compares to a NOS piece. Anyways the fender is in bare metal right now and i just want to know if you guys have any recomendation to a good primer to put on it to keep it from rusting. Keep in mind that the primer that goes on will stay there. It wont be the final coat of primer but i would like it to be the same as what will be used on the rest of the car and as the final coat before i shoot the color. Ill be sprayin Rally Green over it when it comes time to paint so i want the primer color to be one that wont diftort the green more than what it was distorted at the factory. Any recomendation on Brands, types, or colors?

Reminds me of the cap (3908372) used on the left rear shock only on all 1st gen camaro's. No one ever talks about them but they do exist.

whats this about? was there a special cap there? or is it just the ones you see in the repo parts catalogs?

First saw the link on the syc site.. figured there were a few people over here that hadnt seen it that were interested in the car.

Is this car in the registry already? If not someone should try to get up with the winner and ask him to enter it.... wouldnt want such a rare car to just "vanish"

Hope whoever buys the car enjoys restoring it as much as I have restoring my 68 rally green L30/M20 coupe!

Very well stated dudes! I havent been in the camaros scene but 3 or 4 years now. But in those 3 or 4 years I have soaked up a few things. Including a few differences in repo and real trim tags... small ones... but those are the one that count!! And also... always be thankful for others opinions... even if they do upset and/or dissapoint you!  Deep down the hobby is all based on the enjoyment of our cars, no mater what it is, as long as you enjoy it!

So is the rounded off base mirror not origional? And that these remaining parts were from a 55-57 chevy?

i knew it wasnt the remote because it dosent have a hole in th black plastic piece to the cable to go through. But i was confused because all the non remote mirrors i have seen had a squarish mounting shape. Does anyone have a link to a place where i can get the right one and all its hardware?  BTW my car is a 04A Norwood 68

recomendation on the scuffing... I used a small BRASS wire bristle brush on the heavier grain parts in my 1970 dodge pickup... it had VERY heavy grain... worked pretty good on scuffing it up.

It appears to be the battery cable bracket... it was bolted on with one of the oil pan bolts... missing most of the time
