Originality / AIR pump pulley PN# (for '68 396) ???
« on: May 11, 2006, 11:17:49 AM »
For a '68 (Camaro) 396..., ...I'm trying to find which is the (technically) correct pulley PN.
Does anyone know what PN(s) pulleys were used on the AIR pumps? (ie. "stamped" on the pulley) for this application?

I believe I got #3917234 from the AIM, ...but is this correct? ...and what would be 'stamped' on the pulley? ...were there other numbers used? (ie. 3925522?)

  Thanks,
               Kevin

« on: April 25, 2006, 11:34:32 AM »
Does anyone know if the smog tubes for a '68 Camaro (396) are the same used on a '68 Chevelle (396)?
...I would assume so, ...but nut 100% sure...

  Thanks,

Originality / '67/'68 clutch FAN, ...4 rivets ....not 5?
« on: April 19, 2006, 12:44:37 PM »
...I've read the CRG report on cooling, etc. and from what I can see, ...the FANs for the clutch fan setups (for '67 and '68) had FOUR (4) rivets, ........not 5.
I seem to see a lot on Ebay advertising the 5 rivet style as original for '67/'68...

   ...just curious...

  Thanks,

Originality / PS cradle mounting question for BB(396) '68
« on: April 05, 2006, 01:41:13 AM »
 Re: The AIM (p.375, N40 A6)

...I just purchased a power steering pump cradle (supposedly) for a '68 BB, ...however it is my suspicion it's for a SB.
ON the 'backside' of the cradle that mounts against the block, ...aren't the bolt holes of the bracket (one at the very top and another roughly centered in the back) supposed to line up with the two threaded holed in the block itself?
The cradle I recieved appears like the bracket in the AIM, ...however the distance between the holes in the bracket is LESS than the center to center distance of the threaded holes in the block. (...On the bracket I have the back side hole spacing measures approx. 1 5/8" center to center, ...were on the block itself I measure approx. 2 1/4" space for the holes I believe the cradle mounts to)

Thanks in advance for any information.

... well it's up for sale again.
Some may remember I had taken some photos of a '67  L30/M20 RS,

  http://community.webshots.com/myphotos?action=viewAllPhotos&albumID=254439242

...well I just received a call today from the guy who purchased it about a year ago, ...and it's for sale, ...he wants what he paid for it, ...$1500. I don't even know if I want to get involved in it, but would the rear (ie. 67 w/traction bar) be worth $1200 itself?

   ...So what do you think?

...non original motor, but date matching trans and rear, ..sheet metal is shot.

If anyone would be seriously interested in this car, please email me directly at kevink7@hotmail.com, ...and I possibly could put you in touch with the seller.

  Thanks,
            Kevin

Originality / '68 396 fan clutch, ...correct PN(s)?? photos?
« on: March 26, 2006, 03:46:07 PM »
Does anyone know the correct PN (or numberS) for the correct fan clutch used on the BB '68's (ie. K02 option), ...OR have any photos that would uniquely identify one? (is it common to '67 and/or '69, etc.??)

The AIM calls out PN# 3916388, ..but I'm wondering that there are other numbers??

  Thanks,
               Kevin

I 've located an NOS diverter valve ...PN# 7036448.
...about these 'broadcast codes', ...I believe I need the "DG" for my car, ...but will an NOS unit have any code stamped on it? ...is the 'DG' implied by the part#? and/or if it's other than 'DG', ...can they be 're'-stamped?

...also curious on what others believe one of these valves would be worth NOS? (I know it's subjective, ...just curious).

  Thanks,
              Kevin

...by the way, ...if anyone has any '68 (396) smog parts for sale, ...I'm looking ...

Decoding/Numbers / How early was carb date vs. build date of car?
« on: March 12, 2006, 11:34:29 PM »
...for example, ...with a '68 build 3rd week April (04C), ...what was the typical date of the carb ...relative to the car's build?, ...and/or how early would be too early a date on a carb? (let's day for that same 04C built car)

           Thanks,
                       Kevin

Decoding/Numbers / Correct Carb #'s for '68 396/350 4sp?
« on: March 12, 2006, 06:13:02 PM »
Would "7028217" be the correct numbered  (Rochester Quadrajet) for a '68 Camaro 396/350hp 4sp?

...and would the number be different with or without A.I.R.? (and would it be correct with, ...or without A.I.R.?) (in other words, ...What was the criteria for a car being built with or without the A.I.R. system?)

  Thanks,

Mild Modifications / 700R4 conversion in a '68
« on: October 23, 2005, 02:20:33 AM »
I've got a '68 RS vert (327/275) with a factory PG. When I do start the resto, ...I'm thinking about installing a 700R4 (or 200R4) trans for driveability. (This project is still down the road a bit, ...but it never hurts to research ahead of time...)
Does anyone know of any good reference sites as for 'conversion' parts needed?

I've been told about  Bowtie Overdrives ( http://www.bowtieoverdrives.com/index.shtml ) and I do have a shifter w/Detents, ...but was wondering about driveshaft length, what crossmember to use, etc. etc.

  THanks,
               Kevin
