General Discussion / '67 made it 'home' last night : )
« on: September 10, 2006, 10:46:22 PM »
...about 9pm last night it rolled in, ...needless to say I was yanking the back seat out by the time the truck left, ...but  :( , ...no build sheet to be found. Gas tank too full, ...but that will be next, ...we'll see.
...what amazes me is how clean everything is...

...yes, ...these are original seats! ...

...40 years old, ...still doesn't look too bad...

...I decided to put the redlines back on the '68... (needed to put the 'driver' rally's on the '67)

...don't they look like a happy couple  :)

General Discussion / 2007 Camaro calendars...
« on: September 08, 2006, 06:07:00 PM »
...Some may already know this, ...but just thought to pass along, ...that the calendars are now available. This year's photos by a good friend of mine , Dan Lyons through Browntrout publishing.
...you may recognize some of the cars, ...some TC and CRG member's cars there

...and if you do know anyone who's car is in the calendar, ...you might want to touch base with them, ...there's a 65% discount to anyone who's in it, (no joke). ...

Here's a link.   ...or at a better price    ($10.99 here)

General Discussion / Brake Bleed tool suggestion ... Motive vs. MityVac ????
« on: September 07, 2006, 05:59:17 PM »
...I posted this on Team Camaro, ...but thought to ask here as well.

Considering Brake Bleed tools, ...what is everyone else using? (if you know the model # of what you are using, ...please post)

... I'm looking at two units right now:

A Motive Kit#0250  http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=mvp-0250
...and a Mityvac Silverline Plus #04050.  http://www.tooltopia.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=8309

...I've found better prices other than the links above, ...so the price is within $8 between the two ($70-$80).

I never heard of the Motive before, ...but I am sided towards it since it seems a bit easier to use.

...comments? ...other suggestions?

  Thanks,
               Kevin

Decoding/Numbers / Stamping question... Hidden Vin ???
« on: September 07, 2006, 02:03:07 AM »
...With all the threads on hidden VIN's lately I got looking through some photos of a '68 vert project of mine.

Has anyone ever seen the hidden VIN not match the VIN tag, ....when it's the MODEL YEAR digit  ...sure looks like a "5" when it should be an "8"???  (This is an early '68 build of '09A')
(note that this car is UNrestored, ...matching numbers)

...just curious on this. I DON'T see this as a problem since the car is UNrestored with many/most dated original parts, ...and the last 6 digits match just fine. (I couldn't find a photo of the cowl 'hidden' VIN, ...but will be checking soon...)

General Discussion / a few pics of the '67...
« on: August 29, 2006, 05:27:43 PM »
...currently at my brother's awaiting shipment back east.

...Have to keep an eye on it, ...it's amazing who you'll find snoopin' around  ;)
(of course a big thanks to the photographer for taking the pics after I headed home  :) )

I'm in the process of having my '67 shipped from NV to NY, ...and came across this site:

  http://www.transportreviews.com/

...I thought it worth posting for others who at some point may be shipping a car.

On a recent visit to my brother's in Nevada, ...I purchased another '67 Camaro, ...believe it or not, ...with 39,xxx original miles. I don't have pics yet, but will shortly...
(Interestingly enough, ..."RickH", a good friend of mine and a fellow member on this board is still out west and (hopefully ; ) will be taking the photos this week when he stops by to see it, ...I did not take any while I was there : (
...Anyway,  ...It's a 327/275hp, PG, Gold (w/Blk vinyl top) Dlx Blk interior, factory AC, with factory SMOG (original pump is in a box in the trunk), ...and amazingly has it's black California plates STILL on it (that JUST expired 8/12/2006), ...it's still VERY road worthy and runs just fine. Other than a few 'shopping cart' dents and an older repaint, ...the car is in very good shape, ...all original sheetmetal with NONE needing replacement.
...I've even talked with the 'old lady' who owned it from 1972 - 2005. She remembers buying it (from a used car lot), ..."...it had 1700 miles on it, ...and she paid $1700...". I'm hoping to obtain some photos of it when she owned it...

Couple questions:
Is there any way within California to do a DMV history, ...since it seems the plates that are currently on the car appear to have been registered with it since pre-72 (?). Since it does have SMOG, ...then it seems to have been originally built for/sold in California. (When were the Black CA plates in issue anyway? ...what years?)

WHERE have you found your build sheet? ...this car only has 39,000 (and something) miles on it. Spring tags, jacking instructions, ...the car really has not been touched. I know of the 'above the gas tank';, ...'behind back seat', ...where have they been known to be found? (I've been messing with these cars for years, ...I've yet to ever find one. My fingers are crossed that this will be the one I find it in...)

Decoding/Numbers / Question on Block codes...???
« on: July 07, 2006, 01:25:43 AM »
I have a 396 motor with the following:

Cast# 3935440, ...cast date of "G 1 8". (does have "Hi Perf Pass" cast near oil filter mount and behind timing cover)
Front pad stamped "T0715EF", ...partial VIN "18G136909"
...Heads are cast #3931063 with dates of "F258" and "G108"

I believe this to be from a '68 Chevelle 396/350hp 4sp car (re. 'EF'), ...correct??
Also, ...from what I've checked, ...it appears the heads are very late '68 heads??? (June 25th and July 10th) (ref. By the Numbers book, P. 103)

Thanks in advance for any information/confirmation.....

A few of us in the Hudson Valley NY area are signed up for the Belmont Park event on 8/19...

Here's a clip from the media release:

MARINA DEL REY, CALIF.— By popular demand, Rev It Up®, the World's Largest Performance Driving School and National Racing Competition, is coming back this summer to New York on August 19-20 at Belmont Park Racetrack. The hugely popular program, which drew thousands nationwide during previous tours, returns with more professional instruction, more adrenaline crazed excitement, and added horsepower thanks to Chevrolet’s lineup of performance vehicles.

Rev It Up (RIU), presented by Chevrolet, combines fast cars, challenging courses and expert trainers for a high-energy experience. Originality / 68 BB fan shroud ...same as '69?
« on: June 27, 2006, 11:19:16 AM »
Does anyone know if the fan shroud for a '68 BB is the same as that for a '69 BB? (if not, what's different?)

First, ... I would like to thank Dan for emailing and making me aware of this...

A year or so ago I came upon some documentation (including POP) for a '67 Camaro (and know a little about it's history)
From Dan's email, ...the car does exist and is now for sale

I am NOT looking to purchase the car, ...too many things going on and it's a 'neat' car due to some of the options, ...so it's a very good candidate for restoration.

Anyway, ...If the car was 'privately' owned, ...I would be more than happy to simply give the documentation to the owner, ...just for the 'price' of seeing the expression on their face.
The car however I believe is being sold through a dealer and/or the owner is a 'dealer'.

SO,....what to do?
...'give' the paperwork to the dealer, who in turn may jack up the price since he now has a 'fully docmented' car?
OR...
...ask the dealer to let me know who buys the car and surprise the new owner?

Anyway, ...I'm curious of others opinions.... ?

   Thanks,
               Kevin

General Discussion / Need help finding old post...
« on: May 25, 2006, 11:48:13 AM »
...I've tried using the 'search' feature but no luck...

I posted quite some time ago about having documentation for a 'Sierra Fawn' '67 RS/SS convertible , ...I know I can check the documents when I get home, ...but was wondering if someone could find the post...
I believe the VIN# for the car was  124677L116926.

   Thanks,
               Kevin

...and THANKS! Dan for the heads up.

Decoding/Numbers / Small Block decode...what is it?
« on: May 24, 2006, 12:54:16 PM »

  Casting# 3892657
  Pad stamp V0706 XXB

...I can find the casting, ...but the "XXB" suffix seems odd...?

Not that it matters, but a friend currently has this in an older Vette.

...If anyone does know what the XXB application is, ...what source are you getting this info from? (maybe there's a book out there I don't have... : )

  Thanks,
              Kevin

Originality / Harmonic Balancer size? ('68 396 325 or 350hp)
« on: May 22, 2006, 11:57:35 AM »
What diameter (and width) is the harmonic balancer used on a '68 (Camaro) 396 (I'm assuming it would be the same for 325/350hp)?
...I haven't checked the AIM (yet), ...but does anyone have a PN?

  Thanks,
               Kevin
