Originality / Re: Correct shifter
« on: June 26, 2006, 08:21:57 PM »
LOL, jumping to the end of thread not good. Already answered above.  ;D
.

Wasn't there a problem with the muncie shifters binding up as well?
They were bolted to the crossmember or the floor or something... the hurst was bolted to the trans and even if the trans moved under heavy torque the shifter geometry stayed the same where as the Muncie geometry changed and bound if the trans twisted... seems like the problem would be negligable with a new trans mount... however if the mount got sloppy... shifting could get a little hairy,

The correct carb would be a Rochester 4mv. Someone else in this forum will be able to get you the part # I'm sure.

As far as the original air cleaner, good luck! I think it's pretty unique and hard to find. To my knowledge no one reproduces it. It's a black base with the snorkel facing the driver's side. The top is chrome with the red 350 sticker. (the stickers are readily available from classic industries and others.)

The aircleaner and the chrome lid are both available through reproduction. Also if you do not care about originality go to your local auto parts store and buy a remanufactured carb. They are still available as well.

Restoration / Re: Door edge guards installation

If you are using repop or other then original make sure you fit them before paint. Also if you repaint over old paint the edges may be a little thicker and the paint will chip and roll forward leaving a small ridge down rthe length of the edge guards. . I have seen this happen and it wasn't pretty. If you go to bare metal and use the original guards they should fit as before. My car was taken down to bare metal and my guards fit on with no problem after repaint. No chips show.

Good liuck

I see no problem with the June WP on your August motor.

Actually I believe they were natural on the Camaro. All the ones I have seen on original cars have been natrual.

1969 Camaro never used the three letter engine designation.

I am curious as to what made you go from SS to Z/28? What were the indicators?

They built over 20,000 Z/28's in 1969 and as the year went on they built them pretty quickly. Any motor older then 2-3 months in a Z/28 built after the first of the year will get a closer look. Not to say there isn't any Z's with original motors older then that but they better have documents to back it up.

Also different blocks were used in 1969 and depending on when the car was made could make a difference on the casting number of the block being used.

Go to Carlisle during the Camaro show, there will be a lot of cars to check out.

Restoration / Re: re-stamping a block

Not sure how to phrase this but since I have been in this hobby those who restamp are not into it just to make their car "look" correct. And I don't care what anyone says, eventually that car with a restamp will find it's way into the true numbers matching, correct, born with or what ever you want to call it motor and car is 100% original.

Just because the Corvette community does it does't set a standard. Well maybe it does in a more negative way. That's just my opinion.

I watched a lot of Barrett Jackson and every, I mean every Corvette that came across the block was numbers matching. Not one time did I hear the announcer say it wasn't the original motor. I heard a lot of replacement motors in other makes but not in the Corvette.

To answse your question. No I would not restamp and I would not buy a restamp either. That is if I knew it was and was very obvious. That's my take.

To each his own and if that is what you want to do, go for it.

The Corvette world seems to have a different outlook then most in the Camaro word. Restamping may be acceptable to the Corvette community but in other circles it's frowned upon very seriously.

That's all I am  going to say.

General Discussion / Re: 1966 panther
« on: February 20, 2006, 04:18:01 PM »
The only "Panther" was the 50 or so made by Gorrie Chevrolet in Toronto. All were either 327/275hp or 427 cars modified with suspension, wheels, brakes and other nice upgrades. All were painted black with gold deluxe interior. They also had gold nose stripes, gold rocker stripe and gold pinstripes. Not many are known to exist and none had 6 cylinders. These cars, in my opinion if found would be on a par or well above any 1967 Yenko made.

The clips Rick shows in the catalog are not correct. The correct clip is half the size and is rubber coated on one half to protect the wire.

Chris, I have a couple of the correct clips for you.

The later second generation Camaro Z/28 such as the 1980-81's have blacked out window trim. No first gen's had black window trim.

I just might have a couple of those clips, I'll look this weekend. They are very hard to come by.
