I priced out an entire dynacorn body for a 69 a few years ago, and it was around $13k for an entire new body, including delivery to my door.  It included every new panel of sheetmetal, and was guaranteed by the seller to have the doors and trunk lid prefit with supposedly near perfect gaps before being sent out.  Not sure how much this has gone up, but I know that the seller I spoke with was willing to deal a little, and the advertised price was not set in stone.  Bear in mind, this was a few years ago, and they were trying to get this things out there for all of us to see. 

Just a thought.

That car is a mess.  From the few photos posted, I can only imagine how bad it really is.  I am betting the rear frame rails are just about gone, and I would be surprised if one good speed bump wouldn't put them though the floor.  This car could get you killed on the road.  I would even be willing to bet that a rebody from dynacorn would be cheaper than the repairs needed.

If the car was advertised or you were it was rust free, and the seller held himself out as a car specialist, then you certainly have legal recourse over and above that of a regular private seller.  If you want to stay away from lawyers and retainer fees, I would call the guy, and let him know that he was reckless with the truth, and that you relied on his statement or advertising of a "rust-free" vehicle.  That this statement is way in excess of simply puffing up the sale of the car, and is fraud.  State to the dealer that you feel that a $5K refund would be fair, and if refuses, that you will sue him. 

A small claims lawsuit if pretty easy to handle for the average joe, and you would likely win as long as you have a good expert witness.  It would be in the interest of the dealer to settle with you, as even though you can represent yourself as a pro-se litigant, the dealer MUST hire an attorney, as a business can not represent itself in a legal court trial.  By you filing a $300 small claim suit, he would have to hire an attorney, which would more than likely want a minimum of a $5k to $10k retainer. 

I suggest you call and try to settle for a reasonable refund.  If he says no, then file the suit, and I bet that upon hiim recieiving it, and realizing attorneys are expensive, and that paying you $5k to go away, is cheaper for him.  Just my opinion.  It couldn't hurt to try.  With a situation where this is a car dealer holding himself out as a professional, you have a lot more legal protections, and he has a certain level of requirements when giving facts about a car he is selling, and what is relied upon by you when he makes certain statements.

When I posted my opinion, Kerr's post above mine was not present.  I guess we posted at about the same time.  Anyway, I see that it was a dealer, which may be helpful.  As stated, a dealer is held to a higher standard.  If you have a lawyer friend, and he is willing to help, well then take him up on that .  Seems like you have what you need to go from here.

I am not an attorney, but I have graduated from law school, and have been involved in several lawsuits involving classic and muscle cars.  All of which I was successful, and got the buyer tens of thousands in damages.  However, the lawsuits in which I was involved, dealt with vehicle misrepresentation such as the car was advertised as a numbers matching Z28, which it was not, or the car was advertised as a numbers matching, but the engine had been stamped to look like it was from that car, and all were from specialized car dealers, not a seller from the general public.  I got Jerry involved on one of them, as it was a 69 Camaro, and his report was golden, and we settled out of court.  

In the case where the seller is a dealer specialising in muscle cars, he is held to a much higher standard than just a regular person.  A person on the street is only held to the standard of a typical person, and not as an expert.  Therefore, he will get the benefit of any doubt, and what he said to you to make the sale, may amount to only "opinion" or "puffing".

There are several things to consider.  First, where is the seller located?  If he is out of state, you may have to sue in his state, and not yours.  You may be able to state that he availed himself to your state by placing an advertisement that was meant to be seen by you outside of his state, and if you get the right judge, that will be enough to establish jurisdiction.  I found a case involving an ebay sale, which hailed the seller into the buyer's state, which made it easier for the buyer and difficult on the seller.  Also, just because he said the car was in great condition, may not make him liable, as again, it was his opinion, which is different than stating as a fact, which is tough to prove in a courtroom.  Even if he made statments of fact, you have the burden of proving what was said, which in darn near impossible.  You may be limited to what the ad stated, and anything you could get him to say during depo, if the judge even allows you take his depositiion, as in small claims court, the rules are more relaxed, and the defendant could argue undue burden, and prevail in halting a depo of himself.  Next, you have to prove what he actally knew.  You would have to convince the judge he knew about the rust under the top.  All the seller has to do is play Sgt. Schultz, and say he knew nothing, and he will be believed.

Without knowing the whole story, and only going on what you stated here, I will say that your likelihood of being successful in court would be low.  And I doubt you will find a lawyer who would take this on a contignecy.  Which means you can easily find a lawyer who will take your case, but he will want a retainer.  And it will take a year at least, and he will keep asking for more and more money, as the lawyers fight it out on every stupid detail.  Long gone are the days of going to trial quickly in civil suits.  Just as doctors have to order every single test in order to cover his butt, lawyers have to argue every single nuance, regardless of the chance of success, just to cover their butt...and to pad the bill as well.  It will take 6 months to establish jurisidiction, then there will be summary judgment hearings which is what the lawyers do to get the case thrown out on a technicality over the stupidest reasons...and on and on.  No matter how gung ho you are going in, I assure you, you will be dogged and no longer care long before it is over.  And if you have an attorney, the money spent could have gone a long ways in fixing your car.  Also, there is no guarantee of getting attorney's fees if you win, unless it is given by contract or statute.  I have seen cases over $200 that amounted in over $20k in attorney's fees, that the plaintiff had hoped to collect as well.  The judge agreed he was owed the $200, but gave not fees, and it cost him.  Lesson here is don't let pride get in the way of common sense.    

However, if you want to do something, and you believe you have jurisdiction in your state, you could sue in small claims court.  It's much easier, you don't need a lawyer, and could actually be a great learning experience.   Depending on your area, you are limited in what amount you can sue for, such as $5k in my state here.  The rules are a little relaxed, and the judge basically will typically attempt to advocate for both parties, give legal advice, and not hold you tot he letter of the law and proper procedure, as they surely will in a higher court.  File a suit, basically telling what happened and establish your cause of action, which is the legal reason you are suing.  It would be typiclally something like breach of contract, but may include other causes of action, depending on the facts of the case.  Bring in the ad, and any other evidence you have.  Get your body shop guy to testify as to the actual damage and cost to repair, and if so, an expert on what the car was really worth when you bought it.  You will have a 50/50 shot I bet.  However, it is "buyer beware", but a consumer does have some protections, just not many...as the seller is also protected as he did not hold himself out as an expert here, and will also get the benefit of the doubt.  In fact, the seller may not say a word, and if you can not prove your case, he could win.  Small claims will cost you a few hundred bucks, whereas an attorney, $5k-$10k easy.  You get to tell your side, and watch the seller explain himself in front of a judge.  That may be worth it.  And, if he doesn't respond, you can get a default, prove your damage, and get a judgment.  Collecting on that judgment is a whole other issue.

Hey guys,

I'm looking for opinions and suggestion on aftermarket seatbelts for my 69 Camaro coupe.  I see quite a selection on ebay and summitracing.com that show what looks like really nice 2pt and 3pt seatbelts, and for a much better price than original or even Morris seatbelts.  However, I want to make sure of fitment and what if anything needs to be customized before buying.  I would hate to buy a set and realize that I then have to do way too much engineering, or buy some sort of adaptor kits or something just to get them to fit. 

So, has anyone out there installed any aftermarket seatbelts that they can recommend?  2pt or 3pt is fine, as I would like to go 3pt if possible, but if there isn't a decent, inexpensive and easy to install 3pt, well then 2pt is fine.  Please don't tell me about Morris, as I have looked into them, and they seem nice enough, but the price is a little forbidding.  So, what do you guys recommend?

Hey guys,

Tought I would share this.  I saw an offer from Classic Industries where they will send you a credit car with a photo of your Camaro on it.  I applied online, and designed my card using a photo of my Pace Car, and a few days later, it came in the mail.  It was easy and I have to admit, looks pretty cool.  Plus, I think you get some added discount from Classic Industries if you use the card to buy parts from them.

I am glad that you satisfied with the cables. 

Due to a bigger demand than I expected, I am out of shoulder bolts.  I hope to get more in the next month or so, and will order them when the washer is hopefully ready.

Hey guys, heres an ebay auction with what looks to be a decent 3-point retractable seat belt setup.  Anyone have any experience with these or have seen them personally?  How do they look and function?  With the cost of the Morris brand setup at over $300, this seems like a better deal.  Maybe these aren't as nice as the Morris, but if they do their job, I may give them a go.  Anyone have any input?

I knew posting it here would come up with a solution.  I took a lens, 1000 grit wet sanded it, and buffed it out from there.  Came out perfect.  Now, how do I get the light colored.  If I am correct, it looks like I am supposed to color the angle part of the lens, and the lens will glow that color.  I changed the green plastic in the gauge cluster to blue, so that should be all I need to do for this lens.

Well, after tons of research, phone calls, samples, and some engineering of my own, I have been able to order and customize components to make what I feel, are almost perfect reproductions of the passenger seat cable.  The size, length, thickness, and eyelets are exact.  The only thing not exact is a slight difference in the shading of grey, which may be from age.  I have also found correct shoulder bolts as well, in case anyone needs these too.  I am still working on the washer, and have something in the works where I may be able to get them made in the next few months.  I have made the cables in both grey and black.  I guarantee each to be exact and as strong as the factory GM cables.  If the cable breaks, I will replace it for free. 

I am hoping that $9 for a seat cable is considered fair, as I am simply trying to cover my costs.  If you need a pair of shoulder bolts as well, they would be an add'l $5.  Shipping is $3. 

If you are interested, please email me and let me know what you need.  You can send me payment through snail mail, or paypal is fine if that is easier.

That looks like the same stuff on the underside of my 69 pace car.  It was dealer installed and they charged the owner $35 for it.

I couldn't make a straight line with a ruler, and I am sure I could never cut the slots even close to correct or nice looking.  Any ideas who I could look to have this made?  Not even sure who I would contact.

I used double sided tape over two years ago now, and the glass is still firm and in place and not loose at all.
