2  Camaro Research Group Discussion / General Discussion / Re: What are these? Mystery item at pawn shop. on: September 09, 2014, 03:06:35 PM
I know these may not be car related, but I have searched everything and everyplace I could think of, and I am stumped.   The heavy cast iron is gorgeous and I wish my exhaust manifolds looked this good.  Anyway, I am turning to my Camaro buddies to help me solve this mystery and allow me to sleep better.  Some mysteries just have to be solved.  BTW, they were asking $5 for the pair.  looking back, I should have bought them.  Maybe I will go back and get them...why, I have no idea.
3  Camaro Research Group Discussion / General Discussion / What are these? Mystery item at pawn shop. on: September 09, 2014, 03:01:25 PM
Found a pair of these at a pawn shop.  May not be car related but I am wondering if anyone can give a hint as to what they are.  The are cast iron, and pretty thick and heavy.  No markings other than what is shown here.  Any ideas?
4  Camaro Research Group Discussion / General Discussion / Re: ebay ad for a big block Z11 car.... on: September 09, 2014, 02:58:42 PM
If they were original quarter panels, the holes for the louvers would be present.  Same for the lower rocker molding mounting holes. Where are these?  I doubt someone would bondo over them or cover them up for any reason.  Thus, I believe these panels were replaced.  Otherwise, the holes would be there.   The door sag plates are missing in the door jambs.  The radio wiring is a disaster and could he not take a second to re-bend the parking brake lever?  Is that gold paint under the white paint on the fender indicating a fender swap?   It also looks like the rear springs have been replaced as well as the gas tank and fuel line.  All of this says to me that this car is NOT in any way "Rust Free" as the seller claims.  As for the story of the missing engine....REALLY?  Who removes an all original big block 396 and puts it in their garage and can't seem to find it?  My garage is pretty messy, but I bet I could find a big block engine easily.  And who buys a car of this caliber with the promise that they will get a free numbers matching engine, but doesn't pursue it and do everything they can to get it?  That would be priority one if I bought this car from a man with a messy garage.  I can assure whoever buys this on ebay, that they should  not hold their breath waiting for the numbers matching 396 to show up any time soon.

It's not so much the issue with the car, it's they lying and covering up that scares me the most.  State it's a small block conversion, and that there was some rust, but panels were replaced, and that would be a fine start to a good transaction.  This nonsense of "Rust Free", "Second Owner", "Orig Engine if I can find it" makes this deal sour in my opinion.

5  Camaro Research Group Discussion / General Discussion / Re: Wanted 1969 Camaro Rosewood Dash portion with rear defroster hole on: September 05, 2014, 02:48:05 AM
I think I have one...email me and I will send a pic to see if it will work.  It's actually a regular one, but someone installed a switch in the defroster area, and if you enlargen the  hole properly for a defroster, it should work.

Hey guys,

It;s time for me to pull out the cardboard sign and tin cup and beg for pics of your Camaros.  I am especially in need of 67 photos, but all of them are equallly welcomed.  The first 67 pic I get will be used for September, so hurry and send your Camaro pic to me now.  I promise that all usuable photos will get put in the lineup and will get posted.  Your Camaro does not have to be perfect, it just has to be a Camaro.  A little rust or primer, no problem.  Paint faded or a dent, who cares?  Take a pic and send it to me.  This site is about everyday Camaros, it's about our Camaros.  So show off your ride and show the world your awesome Camaro.

Send pics to:

Steve

Guys,
There are MANY countries with All the qualities that you guys seem to long for. . . . pack up and move! Whining does nothing, just ask congress. Do you live in a bankrupt state living off the backs of California, New York, Texas and Colorado?
The first step would be to get those states solvent. you have to fix the rust and dents before you can paint the whole car.  On a positive note I just recently found all my issues AUTOBUFF magazine!
     Victor

I am not going to pack up and move...

Why you would say that is bewildering to say the least.  And why do you assume anyone is whining about it?  You state this as if that by stating an observation to what I see around me, and the results of what I see as a consequence of bad leadership is someone whining.  All solutions start by first stating the problem.  And anyone who thinks that taking the first steps in solving a problem is to be considered whining, in my opinion, knows very little on problem solving.  So, I am not moving, nor is anyone whining.

Thats to bad about the economy, and Camaro performers going under. I know Romney would have been more accountable, but it still would have been tough to get the economy humming again. I am interested to see who becomes the front runner to go against Hilary. Think of all the publications that have gone under though, newsweek, and the news papers in general are struggling. Maybe the next candidate can run on a platform of bringing back (the economy)& all the great car publications!

I wonder lately if getting America back on tract is a possible reality or simply a pipedream.  I try to be hopeful, but it's awful hard to these days.

its shameful that it doesn't matter anymore  (about the economy re our elections), but it doesn't..   Less than half the voters *care* about the economy; the majority lives on the largesse of the gov't.. and will continue voting for their 'freebies'...  Sad      we are on a steep downhill slide as a country.... and it sickens me.

So, our next president that gets my vote will have to swear to the following...

"People of America, if I am elected president, I promise to restore the economy, end terrorism, Crush russia and put putin in his place, level north korea and iran, drill for oil anywhere it is until we have so much of the stuff that the oil companies pay us to take it off their hands, frack the fracking frackible fracks wherever the frack it is, re-open and build new coal plants everywhere so electricity is cheaper than dirt, pass a law that makes CAFE standards applicable to coffee quality only and nothing to do with MPG of cars, do away with every single law restricting our 2nd amendment and force anit-gun people to buy a gun, shut down the IRS because of their POS attiutde, shut down the EPA ASAP, close the DOE PDQ, and go after the DEA until they are DOA, restore our military and let them do what they do best and force all politicians' children to join, re-open the agency of Un-American activities and chase down every low down commie/socialist/preogressvie despot and flog them publicly, but ONLY AFTER I, as president of the United States of America, restores Camaro Performers."

As if it has not been a lousy week already.  My AC blew up during what must be the hottest time of Summer.  Eight days and a thousand bucks later.  My turtle died, my living room ceiling fan quit working, my Sentry safe no longer opens, despite every attempt and idea from Sentry, with the final diagnosis that it has to be destroyed to be opened, my dog pissed on my brand new Tempurpedic mattress, and my wife had her hours cut at work.  Now, the worst news ever, Camaro Performers is no longer.  They were nice enough to send me a replacement subscription of a horrible magazine that I had cancelled last year because it was that bad.  I would rather have had a choice of one of their other magazines, or maybe a subscription of Needlepoint Monthly, but certainly not what they sent.  How about instead, a pro-rated refund?  Is there even any money left to give back to all of us, as I am sure I am not the only one upset over this.

Anyway, now is dashed my hopes of my Camaro one day gracing the pages, or maybe even the cover of Camaro Performers.

I guess it goes to show just how bad our economy really is, and despite our 6th Summer of Recovery, or claims by our betters that the economy is the best it has ever been, that it's just not true.  The economy sucks and now my favorite magazine is gone for good.  What am I supposed to read while visiting the "library"?  I blame obama for this.

13  Camaro Research Group Discussion / General Discussion / Re: Who would be interested in buying a replacement passenger seat cable? on: August 08, 2014, 05:25:36 AM
Hey guys, I still have a few of these left, so if anyone is interested in getting one, please contact and let me know.  After these are gone, I will not be making anymore, and that will be it.  So, check your cable and if you need one, or think you might need one, get it now.  Once these are gone, they are gone.

14  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Restoration / Re: New body? on: July 26, 2014, 06:58:36 PM
I priced out an entire dynacorn body for a 69 a few years ago, and it was around $13k for an entire new body, including delivery to my door.  It included every new panel of sheetmetal, and was guaranteed by the seller to have the doors and trunk lid prefit with supposedly near perfect gaps before being sent out.  Not sure how much this has gone up, but I know that the seller I spoke with was willing to deal a little, and the advertised price was not set in stone.  Bear in mind, this was a few years ago, and they were trying to get this things out there for all of us to see.

Just a thought.

15  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Restoration / Re: photos of my 69 build, on: July 26, 2014, 06:52:42 PM
That car is a mess.  From the few photos posted, I can only imagine how bad it really is.  I am betting the rear frame rails are just about gone, and I would be surprised if one good speed bump wouldn't put them though the floor.  This car could get you killed on the road.  I would even be willing to bet that a rebody from dynacorn would be cheaper than the repairs needed.

If the car was advertised or you were it was rust free, and the seller held himself out as a car specialist, then you certainly have legal recourse over and above that of a regular private seller.  If you want to stay away from lawyers and retainer fees, I would call the guy, and let him know that he was reckless with the truth, and that you relied on his statement or advertising of a "rust-free" vehicle.  That this statement is way in excess of simply puffing up the sale of the car, and is fraud.  State to the dealer that you feel that a $5K refund would be fair, and if refuses, that you will sue him.

A small claims lawsuit if pretty easy to handle for the average joe, and you would likely win as long as you have a good expert witness.  It would be in the interest of the dealer to settle with you, as even though you can represent yourself as a pro-se litigant, the dealer MUST hire an attorney, as a business can not represent itself in a legal court trial.  By you filing a $300 small claim suit, he would have to hire an attorney, which would more than likely want a minimum of a $5k to $10k retainer.

I suggest you call and try to settle for a reasonable refund.  If he says no, then file the suit, and I bet that upon hiim recieiving it, and realizing attorneys are expensive, and that paying you $5k to go away, is cheaper for him.  Just my opinion.  It couldn't hurt to try.  With a situation where this is a car dealer holding himself out as a professional, you have a lot more legal protections, and he has a certain level of requirements when giving facts about a car he is selling, and what is relied upon by you when he makes certain statements.
