Okay, I have ordered my houndstooth seat covers from Distinctive Industries for the rear seat from Classic Industries, for all four seats, the rear and my factory original fronts.  I have also ordered front houndstooth seat covers for my 4th gen seats.  Classic Industries only offers seat covers for 93-96 seats.  Whereas, Ricks offers TMI seat covers for 97-2002.  I am unsure which ones are better, but since I have several sets of 4th gen front seats, I bought the Ricks for the later 4th gen, figuring that GM must have improved these seats...not made them worse...RIGHT?

I am beginning to install them now, will report my results when done.

Hey guys,

My pace car is in need of a new top and boot.  I still have my factory original boot, but it is 45 years old now, and no longer looks and functions as it used to.

Who makes the best top and what do you guys recommend?  Also, I see there are several options for top boots, and I am confused as to which one is best.  Classic Industries has three different offering just within their choices.  Which one is best?  Which manufacturer makes one that will fit properly, and withstand being installed with 60 mph winds?  Are the aftermarket boots the same thickness, and are the clips any good?

Finally, I have a white well liner to match my white top.  I am unsure, but is black or white proper for the 69 pace car?

Any suggestions and comments are greatly appreciated.  Also, I am going to install this myself, so if anyone has any tips, tricks, or hints, that they think I should know when installing this myself, please share it with me.  If you have installed a convertible top yourself, what info do you have that you wished someone had shared with you prior to your installation.

As always, thanks guys.

Okay, I see that the two companies both sell 4th gen houndstooth seat covers.  Classic Industries sells PUI covers for 1993 - 1996.  Rick's Camaros sells TMI covers for 1997 - 2002.  The prices are roughly the same coming in a $400 and $440.  I have a pair of both 4th gen seats, early and late.  What is the difference?  Any suggestions on which is better?  They look the exact same to me.  So, what makes them different?   Will one match the Distinctive Industries houndstooth rear seat better than the other, as both Ricks and Classic sell Distinctive Industries houndstooth rear seat cover.

Arghh....why so many different manufacturers for one set of seats?

Wow, those RARE GEMS from GM are all over the place.  I have a rare ZL-1 convertible RS, but silly GM, they forgot to add aluminum to the engine mold, so they used iron instead, and only filled up the mold part way, so my all aluminum 427 looks similar to a 350 cast iron engine.  But this only adds to the value of this particular car as you have the rarest ZL-1 ever.  It's the only one that looks like a small block.

Also, I am seeing that some suppliers sell 4th gen seat covers and distinguish between 93-96 and 97-02, and some do not.  All 4th gen look the same to me, but what do I know.  Does anyone know what the difference is?  I would hate to get the wrong covers for my seats.

Do you have the VIN of that pace car?  I am wondering how close it is to mine.  I found another pace car that was owned by a guy I met at a show in Orlando, and he had a column shift pace car, that had a TH350 in it, but he said it had a PG when he got it.  His vin was near mine.  If this is a pattern, I wonder if maybe GM ran out of 12 bolts for a couple of days during this time frame.  Just a thought.

I also see there are manufacturers like Legendary Auto Interiors and Distinctive Industries.  Anyone use either of these.  It appears the Legendary seat covers are more money.  Are they better, or just cost more?

I am looking to upgrade to a pair of 4th gen front seats for my 69 coupe.  I want to go with the houndstooth covers.  I understand that several manufacturers make them, such as PUI, PMI, and some others I do not remember.  Who has used any of these and what is your opinion of them?  Also, where to buy them?  Year One, Ricks, Classic Collectors, etc.?

I have a Classic Collectors credit card, which says I get 15% off my order, but find that the shipping is almost $50...so it might be a wash.  Any coupon codes for any of these guys, or any free shipping offers out there?  Thanks for any and all suggestions.

Okay, I see the rear armrests.  I thought only convertibles had these.  Why does this car have them?  Is is a possible fold down rear seat?  What is the story on what car gets them or not?

Thanks.

Plus, if you look at the heater core cover, it is clearly a SB car.

This is one of the Z10 pace cars listed on Crispino/Hoopers Indy Pace car book under the Z10 registry.

Hello ss396mark,

I am the guy who takes, begs for, and organizes the pics and with the help of Bryon Miller, get them up on this site every month.  I took this photo or your car as the show, and sadly I either could not find you and introduce myself, or there was simply not enough time to meet everyone of who owns the Camaros that I take a picture of.  I was at that show myself with my 69 pace car.  If you can, send me your name and Bryon and I will happily credit you as the owner of that very awesome Camaro.

email me at

Thanks,

Mild Modifications / Re: Stinger Hood for my 68 in Australia
« on: May 10, 2015, 06:56:17 PM »
I put a steel stinger hood on my 69 and it fit pretty well.  The only issue I had was the "Scoop" area that would normally have an intake vent, did not have proper corners.  The metal curved in the bottom corners, as stamping the steel would not allow for a perfect squared out corner.  This is where fiberglass can achieve these result that stamped steel cannot.
