Here is the older link showing the Camaro with a small block and automatic TH350.

I found the older FOR SALE posting from the original seller "sfsportscars"  If you look at the pics here, you will see the small block engine and the automatic transmission in the listing.  The one thing that caught my eye, was the BLACK door pulls (they should have been orange), which is pictured on the car when it was a advertised as a small block with TH350 transmission, as well as the newer listing stating numbers matching big block with manual transmission.  This proves that this is the same exact car, but somebody seems to have tampered with the numbers on the big block.  Now, maybe I am wrong, and someone bought this car, and somehow, with a lot of luck, was able to fine the original big block engine and original transmission, and installed them into this car...but I have my doubts.  You can form your own opinion on the "originality" of this pace car.

Shame on these sellers.  I hope they see this and correct their advertisement.  If not, I hope the buyers come across this and take action.  I represented a client who bought a supposed numbers matching Z28.  Lucky for him he had a friend who was into old Camaros and a lawyer, who took legal action on his behalf and got him the value difference between a numbers matching Z28 and a base coupe Camaro with a 302, which was $45,000 back in his pocket and he was able to keep the car.  Not to mention, the seller was out of state, but was hailed into the buyer's jurisdiction because he advertised on a medium that extended into it.  The seller fought it tooth and nail, and even tried to deny they knew of the falsity, but in the end, it cost him big time.  It didn't matter if he knew or not...he SHOULD have, and he advertised the vehicle as "Numbers Matching".  I am telling this story in the hopes that it will make all parties realize that this is a serious matter, and if this car is sold in its current state as advertised, there is some serious liability. This is NOT a case of buyer beware.  The seller is on the hook if he is sued.

hey guys,

I came across this 69 Pace Car for sale that says it is a numbers matching big block with manual transmission.

older ebay posting here:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chevrolet-Camaro-Pace-Car/351404837307?_trksid=p2050601.c100085.m2372&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140211132617%26meid%3D3bd52d1710514bfcbe545506625cad49%26pid%3D100085%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D301636250558%26clkid%3D6282769564688034254&_qi=RTM2067268

However, I have been keeping track of every 69 Camaro pace car that is listed for sale and can be found on the internet.  I have several hundred in my database so far.  When I looked up this same VIN "625725" I show that is was a non-numbers matching small block with automatic transmission and was sold by sfsportscars on ebay back in January 2013.  One of the things in my notes was that the car had incorrect black door pulls...which this car also has.

It appears to me, this seller is being less than honest, and someone is doing some numbers tampering.

Just thought that any prospective buyers might want this info before buying this all original numbers matching pace car.

General Discussion / Real Indy Pace Car or not?
« on: December 31, 2016, 07:33:01 AM »
Hey guys,

Just looking thru ebay and came across this 69 pace car.  Not sure if it is real or not.  The trim tag shows 02D and the VIN matches up to that  date range.  However, this would put it within the same range as the festival cars.  Yet this VIN is not on the list of the known festival cars.

So, I have a couple questions.  First, were there non-festival cars built within the date range of the festival pace cars?  And, what is your opinion on this being a real pace car or a fake?  The trim tag shows Z11, but we all know that can be done.  There is just way too many things that do not look right, even with just the few photos the seller posted.  There is no wood dash trim.  Someone added the console gauges as there is no clock, but I do know that not all pace cars had the gauge option.  The seller states he is unsure of the pedigree of this car as well.  So, based on the little bit we know, what is the overall opinion?

General Discussion / Re: Different size 1969 Camaro Headrest
« on: October 03, 2016, 02:52:59 PM »
Kevin, if you can, post a pic of the box you made and what it is you did to restore you headrest.  I think this may be what I need to do for my other headrests.  The vinyl edges have become "unglued" and cause the headrest to bulge out too much.  I have been trying to figure out how to glue them back together in a seamless and consistent manner, and your box may be what I need to do.

Well, it is definitely for a 69 GM model as it has the date code for that model year.  It looks exactly like a 69 Camaro headrest, but I have four other headrests that are definitely for 69 Camaro, and this one is smaller than all of them bu 3/4".  My four Camaro headrests all have a date code of April 1969, and the smaller one is December 1968.  I wonder if anyone else can compare similarly dated headrests and confirm that the earlier ones were smaller than the later ones.  If it is from no other car, than it has to be Camaro, and it's smaller than later Camaros.  There can't really be any other explanation.

The reason I noticed the difference was when I went to install the underside plastic.  It stuck out past the ends of the headrest, thus proving to me that it was not as wide.  Was there another car that had a headrest that looked like a 69 Camaro, but was smaller?  This has to be it, as there is no way they used the stock plastic on this headrest, and it must have been a smaller one used instead.  I can only guess that I do not install the underside plastic, and I am willing to bet few people will notice one headrest smaller than the other....I hope.

General Discussion / Different size 1969 Camaro Headrest
« on: September 30, 2016, 04:50:17 PM »
I have what I was sure was a 69 Camaro headrest.  I needed to replace one of my headrests as it was ripped.  I found a single headrest at a swap meet, and bought it.  It has the bend in the bar, and a date code of "12-5-68-2" stamped on it.  The hole punched in the lower half of the bar is a circle, whereas, my other headrests have a date of April 1969, and a square hole punched in the lower bar.  What is really confusing though is that my four original known Camaro headrests that I have are all approx. 13-3/4" across.  Whereas, the one I bought that is dated 12-5-68-2, is only 13" across.  It is smaller, and the underside plastic cover does not fit and it sticks out over the sides.

It looks in every way like a 69 Camaro headrest.  I read the article on headrests here, but cannot find out why this one headrest I have smaller.  It is not a 67 or a 68 as it has a December 1968 date code, and a bent bar, which from what I understand, is indicative of 69.  So, what do I have?  Is this from a Firebird?  Were Firebird headrests smaller?  Is there another car using a headrest like this?  Any help would be great.

Nope, I sent my washer to AMK, and they had it for 5 months.  I finally had to ask for it back.  I asked if they were going to make these, and was told that they simply did not have time, but maybe in the future.  This was about 2 years ago, and they still do not offer it.  We can get the cables and the shoulder bolts, but no one offers a washer...too bad.

General Discussion / Re: Hi temp paint for exhaust manifold
« on: June 27, 2016, 06:00:31 AM »
I used the Eastwood High Temp Coating Factory Gray, and it came out great.  This was about ten years ago, and my exhaust manifolds still look like new.  The trick is all in the prep.  I had them sand blasted, which I think is crucial to how they turn out.  The sand blaster guy charged me $20 and they were done in one day.  When I got them home, I cleaned them with lacquer thinner and a toothbrush, making sure to get in every corner, crack and crevice.  I then scrubbed them with Dawn dishwasher soap and water, and blew them dry with my compressor.   I then put them in my oven and heated them up to the max temp for 20 minutes. (I have one in my garage for powder baking, but you in house one will work fine as well, as long as the wife either approves, or never finds out about it).   The heating up was for the purpose of releasing all the oils and grease and dirt and crap from the pores of the cast metal.  After they cooled, I put three coats of the Eastwood High Temp Coating, let it dry overnight.  The next day, I put them in my oven and heated them to the max temp, which was 550 on my oven for 20 minutes.

Again, this was ten years ago at least, and they still look great, and it cost me about $50 ($20 for sand blasting, $30 for Coating.)

I have taken  seats apart from both 96 and older and 97 and newer, and the difference is simply an extra velcro strip along the middle for holding the seat cover in place.  That is all I can see.  Everything else looks the same, same measurements, all of it.  So, I will guess you can use either seat for your needs.

General Discussion / Anyone have a front sub-frame?
« on: March 25, 2016, 12:29:54 AM »
Hey guys,

I am looking for a stock sub-frame for my 69 Camaro.  It doesn't need to have anything on it, but wouldn't mind if it had the upper and lower A-arms.

I live in south Florida, but will travel a little if need be.  Nothing too rusted out.  Mounting locations I can fix if need be.

Thanks,

Steve
