If you have a paper type in line filter, it could have collapsed.

sure did, and in the states that salt in winter, the vega didn't last long. Most I remember were rusted through the front fenders within a few years off the lot.

And if you actually read to the end of the "bad press" the corvair got, I think it was in the last paragraph or so of the corvair segment of Unsafe At Any Speed by Ralph Nader, he concluded that with the improvements made during production the corvair at that was the best handling, performing car in it's class or price range anywhere. Some of the turbo versions were incredible.

A friend of mine back in the day had a wagon with the olds 215 aluminum v8. Not a rocket, but mostly Vega and had some go to it. Conversion kits were available at local speed shops, and the 215s were about $100. at the local scrap yard.

My 307 is a glide, and deep in the garage, but if you want I will try to get a peek at the axle code. Might take a bit of time but I'm willing.

Voted today, but moving up a notch in May.
Odd sorting format? 0-20 near middle of list Over 70 below that, under 70 above. Not hat it matters, just an observation. Also an overlap on the decades. Any age ending in 0 fits two clusters.

On factory gauges a good start is checking the accuracy of the gauge. Either run a handheld and compare readings, or take the unit to a reputable shop that can test the gauge.  I remember going back to the dealer with a friend who's new chevy meter was reading very high. The dealer checked the output, replied it was fine, "don't worry about the numbers, worry if it changes from it's norm".

In "remember the titans" from disney. The white team captain drove and was near killed in a 67 coupe. I think it was bronze, and his girlfriend took off earlier in the film in a 67 vert. same color I think. No pics, but it's on the tube now and then.

I thought soda blasting wasn't supposed to take down rust.
