Restoration / Quarter window vertical seals
« on: July 26, 2018, 02:05:23 AM »
I purchased new seals from Camaro Central because they were Gm restoration part. I'm not happy with the seals. The metal is showing through on the portion facing the inside of the car, I'm confident the originals aren't like that. Anybody have another manufacturer the can suggest? Thanks

Restoration / Re: 1968 RS door reveal molding
« on: July 23, 2018, 03:11:56 AM »
I'll have to get the Fisher manual.  As to how the car is going, the story could fill this page, lets just say slow. I had the metal work and paint done, some things were over looked so I'm revisiting them. I'm moving away from the 1000 point restoration towards a day 2 car. It will still look original, but I stroked the motor to 431ci.(scat 4" stroke crank and .050 over bore) added intake and headers and power steering. I look for that shifter occasionally, I saw the shifter on ebay recently, but have never seen another bezel. Thanks for the reply James how all is well in the Carolina's.

I read somewhere that most basket cases are complete by the 5th or 6th owner. I'm determined to be the exception.

Restoration / 1968 RS door reveal molding
« on: July 23, 2018, 12:07:27 AM »
I did a search couldn't find any info, so I'm asking. I'm putting my doors together(bare shells now) the car is a RS had reveal molding originally, had the doors re-skinned. I can find info on when the moldings are put on. I took a old scrap door apart and had to remove the glass to get to the center screws holding the reveal molding on. Does the molding go on before the glass. Thanks

the rubber is included in the repo kit for the fender well a-arm splash set available from ricks and probably other camaro houses. don't know about the clip.

Maintenance / Re: 1969 Big Block Failed to Start!

Some of the aftermarket companies sell a starter wrap that displaces the heat. It has a shiny side that looks like foil, wraps like a blanket around starter, attaches with wire ties, it maybe made of asbestos, not sure. I've used it in the past with good results. I think I got mine from summit. inexpensive solution.

I found what closely resembled the original non locking mounts for my 68 BB at the local Napa dealer. They had multiple listings some locking, some not. Your results may depend on how helpful the counter person is !

General Discussion / Re: new camaro weight
« on: May 21, 2009, 07:33:41 AM »
it's the culmination of small stuff ! airbags, 3-4 computers, power everything and the wiring to support it,bigger wheels and tires, ac, cushy interior, insulation through out, big 4 wheel disc brakes and on and on. Had a similiar thought when I scaled my f-150 supercrew (5500lbs), that started me think about where the weight comes from considering the amount of plastic, composites and aluminum used today.

General Discussion / Re: 12 bolt rear ?
« on: May 19, 2009, 07:07:44 AM »
Sorry for the wrong info I didn't catch the 68 Chevy II reference. When I think of Chevy II's I think of 63-67, 68-72's are Nova's in my mind. 63-67's are the narrower ones. 68-72 should be a direct swap with a Camaro.

If I remember correctly the Chevy ll rear is 1" narrower. which is great for tire clearance in a Camaro

The was also a 1968 SS L78 TH400 Nova with COPO 9738

This might seem like a dumb question, but when you don't know !!! I was of the belief that you couldn't get a L 78 with a auto until 69. Am I wrong or were Nova's different?

Restoration / Hood hinges and springs
« on: April 30, 2009, 03:25:05 AM »
I purchased new hinges and springs from GM parts direct a couple years ago and specificly ordered SS springs. I've got the body back together with the new parts . After opening the hood fully it falls back down 3-4'' and I haven't installed the insulation or the louvers yet. The springs have 28 coils which i believe is correct for the SS hood. I don't think it's the norm, shouldn't the hood stay open fully? thanks Paul

In 67 if your car had disk brakes it automatically optioned to the "Disk Brake Wheels"?  What did Chevrolet call the wheels?
