General Discussion / Lower door, fender and quarter trim clips
« on: September 26, 2019, 11:31:54 PM »
I'm installing the trim and have 2 styles of clips. The green one in the picture is one style , the red the other. I like the way the red clips fits. It seems much more secure than the green clip. I have a original door molding and the red clips were used. I'm assuming they would work on the fenders and quarters. Anybody have any experience using either type? The red clips have a foam around and in the contour of the clip that is still pliable after 50 years. Any idea how to replicate that? Spray foam won't work because it doesn't stay pliable.

Originality / Re: 1968 Lower Door, Quarter and Fender Moldings
« on: September 26, 2019, 11:08:42 PM »
I found the answer. The foam or rubber is used to keep the trim clips at each end of the door molding in place. I don't believe that to be a issue, but time will tell.

I need to purchase a installation clip kit to install the RS Door, Fender and Quarter trim. Some of the kits include 4 pieces of black foam or felt others do not. What is the purpose of this part, where does it fit and is it necessary? Thanks

General Discussion / Re: 1967 Camaro SS 350 crankshaft

I believe the 1967 350 is a small journal motor. If that is true where would a small journal 350 cast crank come from?

Thanks Paul

I thought it would be something like that. I'll have to take a third look, maybe it's covered with splatter paint. Thanks you for the reply Bert.

Restoration / Ground point in the trunk

I installed a reproduction rear wiring harness. All the wire connectors and light sockets are straight forward, but there is a ground wire around the fuel filler that I can't find a attaching point. It has a round eyelet so I know it gets a screw or on a stud, but I'm not seeing it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Paul

Decoding/Numbers / Re: 68 water pump original to engine?
« on: August 31, 2019, 05:42:58 PM »
The D291 should decode to April 29th 1971 as you said. You need to be looking for 1968 dated water pump if your car is a 1968. Anything dated 1969 is going to be for 1969 cars leading into 1970 Cars. You have to remember new models started showing at dealers fall of the year before.

General Discussion / Re: Black speaker covering material.

I believe the material I used is nylon. The wife bought a Shark vacuum that include a black draw string bag for the extra utensils. In todays venacular I re-purposed it.

I found this material that looks close enough considering it will be under the dash. There are a couple imperfections where the glue seeped through., but I can live with it. Thanks for the replies.

After rechecking a old speaker, I'm leaning towards a Very thin piece of black felt(if I can find the appropriate thickness), similar to what you might find on pool table. It may not be as translucent, but after 50 years I'm not sure what it was originally.

I ordered a replacement dash speaker that has two 4" speakers instead of a single. This one doesn't have the black translucent material covering the speakers. Does anybody know what the material is and where I can buy it. Thanks

Restoration / Re: Best reproduction Bumper?
« on: August 19, 2019, 09:33:13 PM »
You can purchase rechromed original bumpers from several companies that take cores, and rechrome them for resale. I was at Carlisle a couple years ago and there were 2 company's selling rechromed original bumpers. You have to make sure you get one for a 68. The companies don't always differentiate between 67-68 unless you specify. One was in California I believe, I don't recall there name.
