Originality / Turn signal shaft knob?
« on: November 19, 2019, 10:08:53 PM »
I bought a NOS turn signal shaft 3909580 for my 68 Camaro. I need to install the knob, after I paint it blue, black is all that's available. I thought the knob was pressed on the stalk, but the one I ordered just drops on with no resistance. Are they glued on? The diameter of the knob is a tad larger where it meets the shaft. Is it supposed to be a flush, smooth transition to the shaft? Thanks Paul

I did a search, not much on the tantalizing topic of turn signal shafts.

Restoration / Glove box liner

I need to order a new glove box liner for 68 Camaro. The prices vary from $14.99 all the way to $82.00 Seems like quite a spread on pricing.
Anybody bought one recently and can make a recommendation? Thanks Paul

Restoration / Re: 1968 Camaro small hole in firewall
« on: November 10, 2019, 04:13:16 AM »
It looks like the little hole below the back up light hole. I had a 67RS with a 3 speed and it had a 1" rubber plug with 2 terminals in the large hole above the little one which were back up lights. Don't know what that little hole would be for. It's a Norwood car.

It could be #11, but the hole is not quite that big. It looks like a hole for a sheet metal screw that never got a screw. A mystery! Thanks for the help.

It's a nice clean hole, no rough edges or anything like that and only 1/8" or smaller in diameter. That's what's curious. I can't imagine what a hole that small would retain. That's the accelerator mount in the picture and those screws holding the mount are way to large for that hole. I'm baffled.

Ed,
I don't have A/C or center console. I see #11 in the aim, but don't see where it attaches to the fire wall. If your looking at the fire wall from the front of the car, the hole is on the left of the accelerator pedal. The duct would have to go past the accelerator to attach to the hole in the fire wall. After 50 years it's hard to tell what somebody drilled holes for. There are 2 holes, one drilled a 1/8 of a inch above the other for the carpet guard around the steering column, who know why.

Originality / Re: Dash pad trim for 1968
« on: November 02, 2019, 05:53:19 PM »
My trim had the black painted center, although missing in a few spots. I polished the trim, by hand, then carefully taped up the outer portions of the trim and resprayed the center. It turned out very nice. I did this before sending the pad to be recovered, so over spray and hold the trim wasn't a problem. I wish I had taken the trim off and kept it at home. Three trips to interior shop later, the pad is supposed to be heading back to me, arriving next week, but the shop destroyed the trim on the first attempt.

Good Luck with yours

They may have put body filler over the Vin on the cowl. Take a small mirror and get a look at the bottom side of the cowl may be able to locate it that way, if it's still there.

Guy selling this says it for a 68 Camaro with Turbo 400. I've never seen that circular ring on one.

General Discussion / 1968 SS 396 Fan Clutch
« on: October 08, 2019, 12:06:15 AM »
I intend to install a Clutch fan on the car. It originally had a fixed blade fan. I have secured a 4 rivet 5 blade fan for 67-68 car I'm trying to find a good used one. The new clutches have the slotted mounting holes at the water pump flange which won't appear original. Looking for a way to identify a BB fan clutch verses a small block. Thanks
