Originality / power brake booster/master cylinder
« on: May 30, 2019, 07:54:50 PM »
I have what I think are 2 quick questions.

1. Is there any type of gasket between the master cylinder and the booster or the booster and the firewall?

2. What are the correct nuts? I've seen listings both ways 5/16" with flange and 5/16" with nuts and lock washers. Thanks Paul

General Discussion / Temp sensor plug.
« on: May 27, 2019, 07:10:23 PM »
Anybody had any success removing the plug in cylinder head for the temp. sending unit? I had the motor rebuilt (1968 396/325) and the guy put the heads on the opposite sides of the motor. Now the open hole for the sending unit is on the passenger side. The first attempt to remove the plug resulted in 3/8 reducer breaking. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks Paul

Restoration / Correct color bolts for Steering Box
« on: March 25, 2019, 01:18:58 PM »
What is the correct color/coating for the the bolts that hold the aluminium cover with the adjustment nut? I know the cover is supposed to be natural. I'm thinking the bolts were not. Thanks Paul

Restoration / Control Arm shaft position
« on: February 16, 2019, 11:09:30 PM »
I think I know the answer, but going to double check with you guys. To the naked eye they look identical. Are the upper control arm shafts symmetrical and therefore are not side or direction specific. Thanks

Restoration / Upper control arm bolt paint?
« on: February 05, 2019, 04:04:58 PM »
I did a search and from the one picture I found, it appears the bolts attaching the upper control arm to the subframe are not painted. Is that correct? I'm going to paint it in a couple hours try to cover last minute issues. Thanks

I need to purchase a new Firewall Pad. I did a search, most relevant thread was 2012, links don't work 6 years later and I'm hoping for some improvements. Anybody have suggestions for replacement pad. I've seen listings for molded pads $175 and other pads for $50 I'm looking for the best fit and finish. Thanks

Restoration / Need Ball Joint Rivets Installed
« on: December 05, 2018, 10:54:21 PM »
Looking for someplace to install my upper ball joint rivets. I live in Frederick, Md, can travel to Virginia or Pennsylvania. I called around today, 6 different restoration shops including Corvette restorers and all said they don't do them. One fellow only does them on his customers restorations, just use bolts is what I was told. Alot of Restoration Shops doing "Complete,Total,Full Frame Off Restorations", apparently all those descriptive words have different meanings.

Restoration / Pics of Riveted ball joints
« on: December 04, 2018, 11:28:01 PM »
Does anybody pictures of the what the rivets look like after the new ball joints are install and the rivets crushed. There are a number of pictures available of the original factory ball joints/rivets. I'm referring to the one's being done now. I had mine done 10 years ago and they look like somebody smashed them with a BFH, just flattened them down. I happen to be looking at factory rivet and noticed they are rounded on the top. This has me questioning the appearance of mine. Thanks

Restoration / NOS outer Door window fuzzies for 68 reveal moldings
« on: November 26, 2018, 07:57:11 PM »
I'm looking for photos of 68 NOS/Service replacement outer fuzzies. I know what the originals look like, but service replacement parts weren't always IDENTICAL to assembly line parts. I bought(15yrs ago) a pair of door moldings with the fuzzies and all were supposed to be NOS. Although they fit well the backs, flat part that goes against the molding, don't look like the originals. I just bought Quarter moldings used, just because the fuzzies looked so nice. When the moldings arrived the fuzzie are the same design and style as the door(virtually identical)  fuzzies bought years ago. I just had quarter fuzzies made by a company in PA and I like the used ones better.

Thanks

Restoration / Transmission Dipstick Coating?
« on: November 26, 2018, 01:27:46 PM »
Hi Guys,

Do transmission dipsticks have any type of coating on them or are they bare metal and rely on the fluid to prevent rust. I'm using evaporust to clean mine, but if the fluids not going to keep it rust free I'll have to find another dipstick. Thanks

Maintenance / Door Striker Allen Head?
« on: October 13, 2018, 06:38:02 PM »
I'm baffled. Working on a 1968 Camaro attempting to adjust the door strikers. They are not original I bought them years ago specifically because they had the Allen heads, not the Torx heads, supposed to be GM. I can't find a Allen wrench to fit, 5/16th is to small 3/8th is to large. I ordered a 9mm that doesn't fit, best I can tell it's 11/32nd. Anybody try to find one of those? Snap-on doesn't have a listing, found a few on the google machine, but all are light duty aluminium or brass. I found one on Amazon ordered that(socket type) after a month on back order they cancel the order. Said it is not available. Is the factory Striker 11/32nd or are these Strikers just odd balls?

Thanks

Can anybody identify these steering arm numbers 3854874 and 3854873. I'm told they're for 68/69 Camaro, but don't know if they're power or manual steering. Thanks

Restoration / Quarter window vertical seals
« on: July 26, 2018, 02:05:23 AM »
I purchased new seals from Camaro Central because they were Gm restoration part. I'm not happy with the seals. The metal is showing through on the portion facing the inside of the car, I'm confident the originals aren't like that. Anybody have another manufacturer the can suggest? Thanks
