Guy selling this says it for a 68 Camaro with Turbo 400. I've never seen that circular ring on one.

General Discussion / 1968 SS 396 Fan Clutch
« on: October 08, 2019, 12:06:15 AM »
I intend to install a Clutch fan on the car. It originally had a fixed blade fan. I have secured a 4 rivet 5 blade fan for 67-68 car I'm trying to find a good used one. The new clutches have the slotted mounting holes at the water pump flange which won't appear original. Looking for a way to identify a BB fan clutch verses a small block. Thanks

General Discussion / Lower door, fender and quarter trim clips
« on: September 26, 2019, 11:31:54 PM »
I'm installing the trim and have 2 styles of clips. The green one in the picture is one style , the red the other. I like the way the red clips fits. It seems much more secure than the green clip. I have a original door molding and the red clips were used. I'm assuming they would work on the fenders and quarters. Anybody have any experience using either type? The red clips have a foam around and in the contour of the clip that is still pliable after 50 years. Any idea how to replicate that? Spray foam won't work because it doesn't stay pliable.

Originality / 1968 Lower Door, Quarter and Fender Moldings
« on: September 26, 2019, 05:44:52 PM »
I need to purchase a installation clip kit to install the RS Door, Fender and Quarter trim. Some of the kits include 4 pieces of black foam or felt others do not. What is the purpose of this part, where does it fit and is it necessary? Thanks

Restoration / Ground point in the trunk
« on: September 02, 2019, 02:48:14 AM »
I installed a reproduction rear wiring harness. All the wire connectors and light sockets are straight forward, but there is a ground wire around the fuel filler that I can't find a attaching point. It has a round eyelet so I know it gets a screw or on a stud, but I'm not seeing it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Paul

General Discussion / Black speaker covering material.
« on: August 20, 2019, 01:32:38 AM »
I ordered a replacement dash speaker that has two 4" speakers instead of a single. This one doesn't have the black translucent material covering the speakers. Does anybody know what the material is and where I can buy it. Thanks

Originality / 1968 Rear Antenna wire routing?
« on: August 13, 2019, 12:13:45 AM »
Anybody know the routing of the rear antenna wire. I know it runs down the right side of the car? I didn't take the car apart, so I'm at a loss on the original route. Does it go over the outer wheel well at the rear seat divider or under the seat? Thanks Paul

General Discussion / Al Knoch Bright Blue Dash Pad 68 Camaro
« on: July 23, 2019, 12:56:08 AM »
Anybody have a 1968 dash pad recovered in blue. My interior is medium blue and I'm thinking bright blue isn't going to work. That's the only blue they offer for 68(looks the same as 67 bright blue). If you had one redone was it the correct color. I'm thinking I'm going to have to dye it!

Thanks Paul

Originality / Hinge Pillar Plug for Antenna Hole
« on: July 19, 2019, 08:30:00 PM »
My original plug has deteriorated to the point you can't read the part number, it's has almost cracked in half. Haven't found any mention of one at the Camaro parts vendors. Can somebody point me in right direction? Thanks

Originality / Quarter panel vent screws?
« on: July 19, 2019, 08:22:37 PM »
I have AMK interior kit and it came with 2 screws for the Qrt. vents. They are chrome with sealer on them. The repo vents from D&R came with 2 black phosphate screws with a broad head resembling a washer. Which screw is correct? Thanks Paul

Originality / Ground Strap placement
« on: July 11, 2019, 01:15:40 AM »
Looking at the 1968 assembly manual pages 408-409 show placement of straps. Page 408 shows V8's valve covers to body. Page 409 shows frame to body, but that's for a 6 cylinder doesn't mention a V8. Did a V8 get the same ground strap? Thanks

Restoration / 1968 Dash Pad stainless trim
« on: June 24, 2019, 02:44:34 PM »
Can the stainless trim be added to any 68 dash pad or do you need a pad that originally had the trim? Thanks

General Discussion / Ideas on Re-habing a fuse box
« on: June 06, 2019, 05:48:45 PM »
The tin-zinc coating is flaking off of the fuse connectors. I soaked it in evapo-rust which clean up the rusty areas ,but the flaking is still there. I thought about removing the contacts from the box and glass beading them, but when all's said and done I have bare metal and no corrosion protection. It's not practical to spray the fuse box every couple weeks with WD-40. Any ideas? A new harness is $415, I could spend that on other parts. Thanks

General Discussion / Firewall pad clarification
« on: June 04, 2019, 06:20:28 PM »
I'm installing a firewall pad from Quiet-ride solutions. There is no provision for the 4 studs to penetrate the firewall pad into the engine compartment to mount the power brake booster. Quiet ride said this was intentional, they have received numerous request to omit them and so they have. The assembly manual is unclear as to whether the pad is sandwiched between the bracket and the firewall or mounts directly against the firewall, hence cutting the pad to make this happen. Any help would be appreciated. What did GM do?   Thanks Paul

General Discussion / Purpose of special washer
« on: June 01, 2019, 01:01:26 AM »
I'm installing the heater assembly and pg. 52 of the 68 assembly manual shows a #7 spl washer. Any ideas on the purpose? When you order the repo nut and screw kit it doesn't include said washer. It looks like it goes between the blower cover and the firewall like a shim. Thanks
