Originality / 1968 SS396 Radio Capacitor placement
« on: October 03, 2020, 06:21:15 PM »
I'm installing the V regulator with the radio capacitor, but it doesn't fit. The Capacitor won't fit between the radiator tank and the regulator the way pictured. I turned the mounting bracket around so the Capacitor sits up on the ledge of the regulator, but it's still wedged between radiator tank and the regulator. Ignore the L-6 reference in the picture it is for the illustration above the one pictured. Anybody have a picture of a original BB with radio capacitor on the regulator? Thanks

Restoration / Inner Fender support bracket install
« on: August 22, 2020, 09:47:36 PM »
I'm about ready to install the front clip on the 68. Is it possible to install the brackets, one less thing to work around and align, after the front clip is sitting in place It looks like it would be difficult to get to the bolts attaching them to the cowl especially on the driver side once the front clip is in place. Has anybody tried this or have any tips? Thanks

Restoration / Door Weatherstripping Opinions
« on: June 04, 2020, 04:24:06 AM »
It's time to purchase weatherstripping for the doors. A search came up with Metro latex and Camaro Specialties as the preferred brands, but the most recent thread was 5 years old. Are they still the ones to use or is there another company to consider? Thanks

Originality / 1968 M-40 Kick down wiring?
« on: April 27, 2020, 02:22:21 AM »
I'm installing the trans kick down, but can't decipher the AIM illustration. The 2 single leads go to the kick down switch. The other plugs appear to wire into the wiper harness. Unfortunately I can determine how/where via the AIM illustration. Does anybody have a picture or wiring diagram. Thanks

Mild Modifications / Power Steering 2 turns lock to lock?
« on: April 22, 2020, 03:27:47 AM »
I added power steering to my 68 Camaro. This included upgrading a 68 box to 14.1 ratio. I also changed the steering arms to the short ones part#'s ending in 519/520. Additionally I added a 5 3/4" pitman arm and 5 3/8" idler arm and now have 2 turns lock to lock. I can't drive it, it's not together yet, no front clip. Doing a little research I've seen mention of 2.5 lock to lock, but nothing lower. Is this going to be a problem 2 turns is like a 3500lb. go-cart. Now would be a good time to change it if there's going to be a problem. Just looking for advise. Thanks

Restoration / 1968 Camaro Brake warning light switch wire.
« on: April 11, 2020, 09:33:58 PM »
The Assembly Manual show the wire for the switch in the distribution block originating from the engine harness. The new engine harness has no such wire am I reading the manual wrong or seeing things that aren't there? Thanks

General Discussion / Drive shaft Orientation?
« on: April 05, 2020, 01:09:06 AM »
This is probably a stupid question, but I'm asking it. I'm assembling my drive shaft that I disassembled a decade ago. Does it matter which end the trans yoke goes on. The ends look the same, but thought I'd double check. Thanks

General Discussion / 1968 396/325 Stock Fuel pump pressure
« on: March 23, 2020, 10:50:01 PM »
Anybody have any real world fuel pump pressure numbers for a stock pump. I had my motor dynoed today and the pump was only carrying 2.5psi. It was a steady 2.5 but only 2.5. We supplemented with the dyno's electric pump and picked up 5-7 hp above 4800rpms. It would indicate they motor wasn't starving, but seems low. Thanks

General Discussion / 1968 396 Oil capacity?
« on: March 19, 2020, 12:25:35 AM »
I'm taking the motor to be dynoed Monday. I added 5 quarts of oil and filter and primed the motor. The dipstick says I can add another quart of oil. I bought a GM dipstick(yellow tip), tube and oil pan when you could still buy them from GM. I'm leaning towards cutting the tube to get the correct reading. I'm thinking adding the extra oil could be detrimental to the motor. The pan is correct, the motors been in the car, has yellow tip dipstick, only leaves the tube. Was the 5 quarts with the filter a hard and fast number? Thanks Paul

Originality / Steering Coupler Nuts
« on: January 24, 2020, 08:07:14 PM »
I cleaned up a original steering coupler for a 1968 Camaro, however the nuts and lock washers were missing. I've seen the parts vendors selling replacements in what I believe is gold cadmium plating, zinc plating or a combination of both. What is correct? Thank Paul

Originality / 1968 Camaro Power Steering Hose Bracket?
« on: January 14, 2020, 01:29:24 AM »
This Steering box originated on a 1968 Chevelle. This hose bracket was on it when I removed it from the Chevelle. It had the correect date code so I had it rebuilt to Camaro specs.. They reistalled the bracket after they rebuilt it. Did Camaros have that bracket on it or was it specific to a 1968 Chevelle? Thanks

Originality / Turn signal shaft knob?
« on: November 19, 2019, 10:08:53 PM »
I bought a NOS turn signal shaft 3909580 for my 68 Camaro. I need to install the knob, after I paint it blue, black is all that's available. I thought the knob was pressed on the stalk, but the one I ordered just drops on with no resistance. Are they glued on? The diameter of the knob is a tad larger where it meets the shaft. Is it supposed to be a flush, smooth transition to the shaft? Thanks Paul

I did a search, not much on the tantalizing topic of turn signal shafts.

Restoration / Glove box liner
« on: November 12, 2019, 09:57:32 PM »
I need to order a new glove box liner for 68 Camaro. The prices vary from $14.99 all the way to $82.00 Seems like quite a spread on pricing.
Anybody bought one recently and can make a recommendation? Thanks Paul
