Restoration / Judging Question on Radiators.
« on: December 17, 2008, 07:25:19 PM »
I have an Original BB 3core Harrison Radiator (IL,OM tanks and UO tag) that needs a re-core. The original radiator has 4 core tanks with only 3 cores which offsets it to the front. I took it to the shop and they ordered a new core, which is 3 core but it is centered in the tanks. Will this make a difference with a Judge or will I need a special core made ?

Thanx
Buddy

I just spoke with Steve at Camaros Plus, who has bought the company from Larry Christianson. He has the most correct spatter paint and says that the correct colors for 67 iare Dark Gray base with White dots and Aqua flecks. Mystery solved.

Does anyone have the dimensions on the gap over the SS emblem in the Bumble Bee stripe?
And at the end of the stripe at the bumper?

You guys have been great help, this is the best source anywhere for first gen.

Thx
Buddy

Thanx   I think I have everything. I will use common sense on the overspray areas.

I am almost there, just a few more quick questions.

How much of the firewall and cowl was painted body color before the blackout?
Was the whole shell including the full interior and undercarriage primed in gray before body color?
When was the body sealer applied?

And...

Any tips or pics on spatter painting? Dk Gray and white correct?

I think I might document this whole ordeal to help others in the future. Pics and Video. I want to try and do this as close to the factory process as possible.

Thanx
Buddy

Thanx..that helped a little :(

I was hoping there was a book :'(

Still unanswered.......

What is the correct gloss% of the engine compartment?
Was the firewall, radiator support and fenderwells the same color?
Where was the firewall masked off at? (I know it isn't a clean mast but a stencil type mask)
Was the trim tag painted with the firewall?
What is the correct gloss% and color of the subframe?
What is the correct gloss% and color of the rearend?
What is the correct gloss% and color of the Dash, Interior components?
What is the correct gloss% and color of the upper dash?
I assume the bottom was primer gray with over spray from the body color?
What is the correct gloss% and color of the rocker panels and when were they painted?
Where were they masked off at?
What is the correct gloss% and tint of the white bumble bee stripe?
How do I get a correct Spatter paint in the trunk and what colors was it? (Dark Gray & White or Black & Aqua?)
Did the cardboard seat backing get spattered?

Sorry, I am sure this will only spur further questions?

Thanx

67 RS/SS 396 Madeira Maroon with Black Interior.

I have my Camaro ready to reassemble and trying to determine what gets painted first with what paint, color, gloss%, overspray items, Interior color, firewall,  etc.etc.etc.  Spatter paint seems to be a whole different headache all together..OUCH!

Is there a written guide to the paint process during assembly?? This research is taking forever with he said this and she said something different, use this paint don't use this one, overspray here, feather there ...ugh!

My car is on a rotisserie and I at least need to know what to paint the bottom, wells etc.. before I put the frame and rearend back in. Also what to paint the rearend and subframe. Is there an all knowing person for this?

JohnZ where are you?
Thanx so much for any assistance.

For 67 396 cars, all colors except black got the black-out tail pan. However, since your car is also a Z22 (RS), it did NOT get the black-out body sill.

OK. I have Black tailpan but not SIll...Yea!!

Thanx Ed........Does anyone have the layout/template for the black-out tailpan?

Thx

Restoration / Re: Correct locaton of proportionong valve on sub frame

The function of the round metering valve (or "hold-off" valve) is to allow the rear system to see 30-40 psi (which moves the rear drum shoes out into contact with the drums) before the front discs see any pressure, to avoid disconcerting "front brakes first" on pedal application, which causes "nose-dive" at low speed.

Hey, thanx JohnZ, you just fixed my 66 Caprice 396...Woo Hoo  :)

Ain't gonna happen :)  Try your hardest to find original GM, they are worth twice as much or more than repro.

Does anyone know if Dynacorn has there own Qtr's? If so what is the Quality?
