Yes, they can be re-coded if the ignition key fits into the door lock. About $25each.

General Discussion / Re: Movie / TV Camaros

The movie "Almost Famous", the Cameron Crowe movie (he also did Fast Times at Ridgemont High with Sean Penn wrecking a Camaro). He contacted our Camaro Club to load the Movie with Camaros. I  got paid $185 to drive my sons 68 behind Francis Mcdomonds car all night for the concert scene. A club members blue 69 is seen driving the sister away.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: 1969 Z/28 firewall crayon marks, question?
« on: September 27, 2013, 01:05:30 AM »
Here's an example of crayon bleed-thru on my firewall (all original paint). The "72" for Hugger Orange is seen here. Restored cars look wrong with the crayon on top of the paint, and nobody seems to be able to write as smooth as the factory workers could:

The windows could have been broken at the dealers lot and replaced with glass from the warehouse. Bought a Vette like that once.

Restoration / Re: Top of cowl paint color line
« on: April 14, 2013, 04:03:16 PM »
The top of the cowl tag should not have body color overspray on it.  The entire car body was painted body color, and then the firewall was blacked out.  That car has had the body color repsrayed, but not the firewall.  The firewall/body color line looks good other than the fact its body color over black instead of black over body color.

No, Mark, it IS original paint. Not resprayed! You can clearly see the backout is over the orange and varies side to side. My paint is just in really excellent condition:

As Steve ask ;  Out of curiosity - did you get the Henry J or did he get you ?

Well, its been 30 years and hundreds of races, so I don't remember. I do remember the Henry, I think it was a trailered race car so he probably won this race. It was just qualifying as I don't think we were in the same bracket. I raced at Carlsbad too, until it closed. My Camaro was a street car, but was pretty quick. Ran low 8's here and high 12's at Carlsbad. 355ci with 292 casting "Turbo" angle plug chevy heads and full port and polish (huge ports, had to custom cut intake gaskets and hogged out the Hooker Super Comp headers and had to weld them), 485" Crane cam 236* @.050",  B&M turbo 350 and Super Hole Shot converter, 4:56 posi 12 bolt, Holley Strip Dominator with Holley 750 double pumper, Mallory Unilite and coil.

General Discussion / Re: Build Quality in the Muscle Car Era
« on: February 05, 2013, 04:01:07 PM »
Yes, GM was #1 in quality. My 1971 Dodge Challenger RT 383's body was a piece of junk. Although the motor was great!. However, what was concidered good in 1969 is still far short of today's build quality. My 2011 Camaro had excellent paint and body. My 1969 SS's paint and body would be cause for complaints to the dealer. The paint is bare where the front sheet metal panels join, the rear panel is not aligned, and there are runs in the paint:

The most original I have ever seen is my present car-69 Van Nuys SS. When I bought it, only the tires and battery had been changed.

OK .. thanks Mark.   Of course I recall seeing them on Z11, but don't recall ever seeing a *regular SS* with a cowl hood..  but then there weren't a lot of Z28's with the cowl hoods either, back in the day.. :)

Here is my SS350 factory ZL-2. Probably very few made.

Originality / Re: 1969 spare wheel
« on: January 26, 2013, 07:10:09 PM »
William,

My understanding is that any '69 Camaros ordered with the 4-wheel disk brakes also included the 15" rallye wheel (or it was a mandatory associated option?)  I assume this would even be true with the one 6-cyl Camaro that was supposedly ordered with the 4-wh disks?

E70 x 14 tires were never available as original equipment on a 1969 Camaro.

The standard size [non-SS or Z/28] was E78 x 14; F70 x 14 optional.

SS cars had F70 x 14 as the standard size; several varieties were optional.

Z/28s and COPOs also equipped with 9737 used E70 x 15. There were no 15" tire options.

JL8 included 15" wheels when not ordered with Z/28. Only one such car is known to exist.

There was a 15" tire option in 68 and 1 documented 1968 SS was discovered in 2011 with the option, may be 69's out there too. My friend has the MacNeish certified 307ci, 4 speed, JL8 car found in a Southern California field> currently under restoration.
