Restoration / Sound Deadener Overspray
« on: October 01, 2008, 08:55:29 PM »
Hi all, I want to spray sound deadener on the rear wheelwells on my "68" and need to know if there was any overspray on the underbody when the factory sprayed it. I couldn't tell because the car was also undercoated. Thanks for any help, RonM.

I looked at the cluster out of my 68, it has an NL code with a 5K tach. Hope this helps, RonM.

Restoration / Re: camaro two piece rotors
« on: May 13, 2008, 12:32:08 AM »
I looked at the rotors on my "68" which I believe are original and only the drivers side has the holes, three of them. Also a few years ago I picked up complete hub assemblies off of another "68" for spare parts, again only the drivers side has the holes except only two. I don't know what the holes are for, possibly to balance the rotors. Hope this helps, RonM.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: Original part number deluxe door panels 1968
« on: January 26, 2008, 05:35:18 PM »
My panels are stored in a spare room so I took a quick look for you. On the backs are the numbers 7743385 for the driver's door panel, 7743384 for the pass. door panel, 7756084 for the driver's rear panel and it looks like 7756083 for the pass. rear panel (that one is hard to read). They look like GM part numbers, but I'm not sure. Hope this helps, RonM.

Originality / Re: L30M20 Tire Pressure Sticker
« on: November 09, 2007, 08:02:05 PM »
Go to the opening page of the CRG website and click on General Info. Number 17 should answer your question. My car (68 L30/M20) came with disc brakes and the disc brake rally wheels so the original owner probably ordered the optional tires as well, I don't know for sure. What I do know is the original sticker indicates a 78-series tire. Hope this helps, RonM.

My "68" L30 shortblock is sitting in my garage soon to go to Jerry's, so I took a look and pulled one of the rod caps off. What I found was all of the rods have the "0" cast on the bottom of the rod cap, the rod that I pulled the cap off has the notch in the cap and the notch in the rod and it looks like the number 207 is cast on the rod by the rod cap. Hope this helps, RonM.

Restoration / Re: Wire routing
« on: March 14, 2007, 01:48:57 AM »
It might depend on where the car was built. My "68" Norwood car has the front lighting harness routed between the inner and outer fenders. However a friend's very original Los Angles "68" has the front lighting harness routed through the two straps. Hope this helps, RonM.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: Warranty Engines
« on: March 10, 2007, 12:51:59 PM »
If GM didn't abide by the Georgia State Law in 1968 they at least planned to. I picked up a 1968 Chevrolet dealer service bulletin binder a couple of years ago, and one of the service bulletins dated Sept. 25, 1967 describes the Georgia State Law. Briefly it states, "the Georgia State Law also requires that all engine and transmission assemblies*, including replacement parts, to be numbered after the start of the 1968 model run."
" *This numbering system applies to service engine assemblies, partial engines, fitted cylinder cases, cylinder cases, transmission assemblies and transmission cases." Hope this helps, RonM.

Decoding/Numbers / Is VIN # 124379N642657 in the database

Tonight I was talking to an old friend and the subject of the cars we use to have came up. Well one of the cars he use to have was a "69" SS350 that he still has the paper work for, including the owner protection plan with the p.o.p., the car invoice showing all the factory options and the owner's manual. If the car is still out there he said he would not mind parting with it. I'm going to bring the engine and a bunch of other stuff from my "68" L30/M20 to Jerry in a couple of weeks. I'll bring the paperwork with me for him to look at and copy if he wants to. RonM

I picked my "68" up about 7 years ago. First 4 years was used as a driver/showcar, the last 3 years I've been doing a total restoration on it. I never heard of an "L30/M20" until I read Rich's excellent article about 3 years ago. My car came with power disc brakes and luckily it still has all 5 original disc brake rally wheels, RonM.

Another clue is, if the intake is original it should have an oil fill tube. RonM
