Restoration / Re: 69 Z/28 Correct leaf springs, where to buy?
« on: July 04, 2012, 11:46:01 AM »
I also got my springs from Bob Harris. They sit high at first installed in an incomplete car, but once the car is complete it sits fine. I put about two hundred pounds of cement block in the trunk to help settle the springs while the car was still apart. As for the finish Jerry told me to spray them with REM oil (the gun oil). It works like a charm, the springs have been in for about four years now and they still have that nice bare metal look. Hope this helps, RonM.

Originality / Paint Stripe Info.
« on: June 07, 2011, 09:07:57 AM »
Hi guys, I'm going to paint the bumble bee stripe on the '68 this week and I need to know what code or color to tell the PPG dealer for a black stripe. Thanks for any help, RonM.

No problem, the partial VIN is N477xxx. Hope this helps, RonM.

I think something is wrong with the chart. My car is an 07D build and some of the original parts have July dates, the last of which is July 18th for the rearend assembly. Hope this helps, RonM.

If you are talking about the wire with the connector, it looks like the wire on my car but mine does'nt have a connector on it. The wire has a light socket for the glovebox and it goes into the wiring harness by the heater control. To be clear, I'm only talking about the ashtray light with regards to fiber optics. I can only tell you what is on my car which is a '68. Hope this helps, RonM.

I don't have my trunk lid installed yet but the bracket mounts to a square hole about 10'' to the driver's side of the striker. Voltage is taken from a pigtail connector that also supplies the license plate light, but I remember from an earlier post that voltage is taken from other sources on other cars (might be worth a search). I haven't figured out the picture posting thing yet and it would be hard to take a picture with the dash assembled. On the '68 cars the ashtray light is part of one of the instrument light sockets, on my car the right tach light. The fiber optic light looks like a black 1/8'' or so wire about a foot long. I saw it while changing a flasher when I first got the car. I had to ask a friend what it was and he showed me the light at the end of it that plugs into a clip on the the top of the ashtray bracket. Hope this helps, RonM.

Well, how about the fiber optic ash tray light then? Maybe it's stuffed up under the dash like it was on my car when I got it. Hope this helps, RonM.

See if there is an orange glovebox light wire coming out of the underdash wiring bundle, although it was also part of the deluxe interior option at least on a '68. Hope this helps, RonM.

General Discussion / Re: lets reunite another 302 with the original car

I don't mean to hi-jack this thread but it seems that on some of the late engines the engine code is not perfectly in line with the assembly date. I know it's not on my L30 which also is dated July 11. I've always thought it had something to do with it being a very late car but didn't know for sure. Thanks for any opinions on this, RonM.

That's interesting because my panel is also stamped with just a 6 and it's an 07D build. RonM

The date stamp on the header panel for my '68 is in the same location as JohnZ's, never noticed it before. Hope this helps, RonM.

The tranny is the Saginaw 4-speed, which came in the L30/M20 cars.  By the way before I took the car apart I put about 20,000 miles on it and the tranny never gave me a problem. But I'm not 18 anymore either. RonM
