General Discussion / Re: Dealership License Plate Frames
« on: May 19, 2008, 05:05:23 PM »
My 69 Z was purchased at Clippinger Chevrolet in West Covina California... There was one frame when I bought the car so I went on the search for a second . I searched Craigslist in So Cal and found two . Give it a try

Vette,

Here is another option if you are considering Dynacorn, Mike rebuilds an actual car that already has a clear and valid title that is every bit as good if not better http://www.mikescustomcars.com/69bodies.htm#

I agree .. I will come right out and say Mike's are better because they are . Problem is that he has huge business and you will not be able to get a chassis from him for at least a year

General Discussion / Re: Old Reliable going to the sales block
« on: April 27, 2008, 03:44:21 AM »
That's silly to request not showing pictures...what can it hurt?  Is someone afraid that some unethical person will "clone" a wrecked version of the car?   People build them and then race them publicly...racing has it's risks, I think they must have known that going in and been willing to take the risk.

Again .. no one requested that we not post photos.. those of us in this loop decided not too .   Not sure what the " risk" has to do with not wanting a picture of a mangled race car all over the internet.
Here is a picture of the Penske car I took around 2000 . My car is two over from it ( Sears Point)

I know if I would have wrecked one of my cars I would have prefered to to not have pictures of it all over the internet. It just one of those things . you spend all that time prepping the car , you go out there and hang it out .. lots of work and lots of passion involved. It is hard to describe .

In 2003 at the Road and Track Invitational a guy totalled his car on the start/green flag... yes the green flag, ran up on the back end of another car, locked em up and hooked the car into a wall. He left the car in the paddock uncovered. It was pathetic. Bent at all four corners with fluid leaking out of it. We went over and covered the car. It's almost like a respect thing for the car.. not to hide anything. No one asked us not to post the photos.. we all just kind of thought better of doing so.

Thanks, I did get some.

I'm baffled. Pictures take by people at a public event and they are requested not to be shown.....

Kurt ,
Everyone agreed to not post any crash pictures of the car .There were a few but I think they got taken down. However .. MuscleCarJohn has some that he took . I think he is on both this board and TC but he is on NastyZ quit a bit .

Does anyone have a pic or a link to the crash? I searched but couldn't find any.

Thx!

Mild Modifications / Re: 69 maximum rear tire size
« on: April 21, 2008, 03:22:36 PM »
With the 15's the largest seem to be 255's . I had 15's with 275's with the lips rolled and air shocks .

With larger rims like 17" there are more tire options . I have 275's on 17" TT IIs

Jerry told me last year he was going to sell Old Reliable ..not cheap !! I hope it finds a great new home.

I was racing my 935 in the Historic IMSA class at Infineon in May of last year when I saw the Penske 69 get bent at all four corners. It was pretty bad .Ken the owner of the car was not driving . He was running the Chris Cord Dekon Monza in our class

he is. its a 67 z-28 race car with papers. go on his website and check it out. old reliable is too valuable to keep racing. www.z28camaro.com

Considering what happened to the Penske-Donohue 69 Camaro it is time to park it.

General Discussion / Re: Anyone had work done at Mike's Custom Cars
« on: April 08, 2008, 02:46:52 PM »
I also have another 69 Z that had been tapped just hard enough in the back that it bent one of the frame rails . Mike built a series of custom fixtures to pull the cars chassis in several areas . Over a period of time he would do a very slight pull then he would make another fixture and pull a bit more. The car is perfect and his proceedure and patience also saved the original quarter panel .

Mike did a car I have. It was a resto started about ten years ago then abandonded. The NOS GM quarters were tacked and I had Mike go through everything and make sure it was correct. He did a real nice job for me
