Have any 1969 JG assembly suffix codes been documented in the data base to date?

Decoding/Numbers / 67 QK axel with N code?
« on: December 02, 2006, 07:28:12 PM »
I'm trying to decode a 1967 QK posi axel with some anomolies. This is how the code reads QK 0302 N1 with no E on the second line for the posi application. My questions are, how does the N code translate against the Chevy gear and axel code of G normally found? Is it unusual to find the absence of a posi designation such as E, Eaton or D, Dana?

General Discussion / power team orders/axel ratio's
« on: October 03, 2006, 04:45:57 AM »
What was the dealer order procedure for specifying the axel ratio for a given power team combination? Lets say you went to the dealer and ordered a 68 camaro L78/M22 combo and wanted a 4.56 gear. The information I have read would indicate the standard ratios available as 3.55, 3.31, or 3.73's.  How would the dealer accomodate this request? Was it as simple as putting a check mark in a box or did it require special attention written or otherwise. I just dont know much about the actual dealer order process and how much latitude they had with power team combo's.

Restoration / 69 molding under spear?
« on: September 29, 2006, 01:46:47 PM »
Has anyone ever run across an anodized aluminum molding that attaches under the spear at the lower rocker on a 69 camaro? I pulled a set off a restoration project thinking they were some homemade attempt to protect the paint on the rocker under the spear molding. After looking them over they appear to be a factory made molding with attaching clips etc. about 2 1/2" wide and fit perfect to the rocker from wheel well to wheel well  ??? Just wondering if it could be a dealer install or something of that nature before I throw them in the mystery parts pile never to be seen again.

Originality / RPO question
« on: June 14, 2006, 01:41:52 PM »
Would it be possible to have both RPO U15 speed warning and RPO L50 rear defrost on the same vehicle since they both use the same control location under the dash? I have a nice 68 rear defrost unit and was thinking of installing it in my 68 that already has speed minder/warning.

Restoration / 68 vinyl top measurement
« on: March 31, 2006, 04:35:46 PM »
Hey guys, I need a measurement from an original 68 vinyl top. I have three 68's with vinyl tops and only one is original. I am replacing the two non original tops. I have a dimension of 45" wide seam to seam  on the main section of the original top. The vinyl top guys insist that its only 40" wide seam to seam on a 68 top. Does anyone out there still have an original top on a 68 that can check my measurement?

Thanks
Pat

Originality / carb heat shields
« on: March 27, 2006, 09:40:58 PM »
I've noticed these ugly carb heat shields being advertised for both Rochester and Holley applications. Were these ugly things ever used on first generation camaros?

Originality / Triple A Window sticker
« on: February 05, 2006, 06:46:07 AM »
I was just looking through some paper work I have on one of my cars. Back in 1982 the previous owner had a search done by Triple A Enterprises using the cowl tag and vin # to reproduce a window sticker/option code document. What, if any, valid information could this Co. aquire back then? I'm guessing its just an old scam?

Originality / Thermostat housing for L78
« on: January 26, 2006, 05:03:18 AM »
I'm confused as normal maybe you guy's can help. I have a 68 L78 with manual transmission. What is the correct thermostat housing? Is it the same as the SB with the carb return spring tab? I'm also using a BB alternator bracket that has the carb return spring tab. I've seen the BB alt bracket with and with out the tab and always assumed the one with the tab was for manual and w/o was for auto. If someone could advise with a description and or part # for the thermo housing and the correct alternator bracket for my application I would appreciate the help  ??? Oh yeah, if they both have the carb return spring tab which one do I use  :P

General Discussion / end of assembly inspection
« on: January 12, 2006, 01:11:01 AM »
I know this has been discussed before but I forget the details. At the end of final assembly what would happen to a vehicle that did not pass the final process for something other than light repairs or adjustments, lets say for an engine knock. Where would it be sent and how would the problem be corrected?

Decoding/Numbers / Rear axel posi designation
« on: December 28, 2005, 08:26:42 PM »
I have a very clean QW 0330 G2 rear axel in my 67 L35. It does have the radius braket and bar installed. What I dont see anywhere is the posi designation "E" under the assembly code  ??? I was wondering if the bracket was installed prior to the assembly code being stamped and also was the posi designation stamped at the same time as the assembly code. Kinda "what came first, the chicken or the egg"  ;) Would it be unusual to not have a posi designation on a posi axel? No damage or rust issues to obscure the stamp....its just not there.

Originality / seat belt color
« on: December 15, 2005, 08:21:17 PM »
My 09E 68 convertible with standard red interior has black standard seat belts with retractors. I thought they were replacements but the date is right on? Should they not be red to match the interior?

Decoding/Numbers / 67 68 LOS build sheets
« on: November 25, 2005, 11:51:30 PM »
How many, if any, build sheets have been located on the top of the gas tank of 67 or 68 LOS builds? I have dropped several tanks on LOS 7's & 8's and have found squat. I have a 68 April built L35 that I'm considering dropping the tank for a look see but...I'll use my time more wisely if none have ever been found.
