I'm in the market for an OEM owners manual for my 06A Z and I have noticed that all the ones I have seen on ebay are First Edition August 68's. Were there other dates printed or was that First Edition use throughout the whole production run?

Gary, there is a nice Third Edition Owners Manual listed on eBay Item # 400435738472 .

The stud in the photo looks correct for a cowl hood car, however I think your wing nut is not the original, it looks to bulky in the wing thumb hold area. The wing nut should not be chrome, and the stud ( i think) is like a dull black phosphate. I had changed mine many years ago ( put a chrome lid and stud/nut off a non cowl hood car) and in going through my original kept parts for my car ( reinstalled), just came across it and the wing nut, ( as well as the lid) I will snap a picture Monday and repost it for you.

The cowl hood (original paint) and air cleaner assembly on my '69 Z/28 are original however at some point a few fasteners lost their way... including the air cleaner stud, and I have been painstakingly trying locate correct originals. The air cleaner stud seems to be a particular challenge.  The commonly available era correct stud is ~2.25" total length, the lower segment that screws into the carb is ~0.50" and upper segement that secures the cleaner lid and filter element is ~1.75".  I use an AC Delco repop 212CW air cleaner element which measures ~3.00" in height and an original 4053 carb with paper gasket.  I understand the original 212 element was also 3.00" high.

The stud has a lot (no photo) of excess thread length above the top of the air cleaner lid with the wing nut secured and doesn't look right. What is the correct total and segment lengths of an original cowl air cleaner stud and are there any differences vs a non-cowl hood open element stud? I am also interested in how the top of the stud was finished/cut. The stud in the photo is tapered rather than bunt cut  Huh

Thanks Chick, so a dimpled stud was used on a Gen 1 in ‘68, that's progress. There was a mention on the forum by a reputable restorer that dimpled carb studs were "correct" for an L78 '69 Camaro. I found that to be a bold statement especially in light of postings from John Z and others that fasteners (and their markings) used on the NOR and LOS assembly lines varied by supplier and there was little consistency. There were no other postings on the subject I could locate and I have never seen them used or referenced elsewhere.

Cover is natural aluminum, cover bolts are dark (manganese) phosphated, box body is natural cast iron.

Nearly 125,000 Chevrolet fans have spoken, naming the1969 Camaro the “Best Chevy of All Time.”

As part of Chevrolet’s Centennial celebration, fans were asked to vote for their favorite vehicle from Chevrolet’s 100-year history. During the four-round, elimination bracket, the 1969 Camaro garnered 25,058 of the 124,368 votes cast, edging out the 1970 Chevelle SS in the final round.

Tom Peters, Chevrolet Design director, believes the ’69 Camaro is not only one of the best vehicles in Chevrolet’s history but one of the best vehicles ever. He is a little biased, however, having owned the same 1969 Camaro for nearly 20 years.
“I can vividly remember seeing one for the first time as a kid,” Peters said. “The intent of the Camaro was instantly understood, even to a 14-year old like me, because it possessed a very powerful personality and an elegant, simple design. The Camaro was so cool because it offered this great style, high performance, and yet was attainable for someone just getting out of school.
“Today, the ’69 Camaro has become one of the best examples of timeless design in the industry,” Peters said. “Like the very best designs, the Camaro is much more than just a machine because it evokes powerful emotions in people of all ages. That’s why we looked to the ’69 for inspiration when designing the fifth-generation Camaro, and why the ’69 Camaro is an example of the timeless vehicles Chevrolet will strive to deliver for the next 100 years.”

I recently purchased a 1969 RS Z/28 (4C build date) with a later dated (August 23 1969) M20 that I plan to remove. Would love to reunite this transmission with the original car!

PS - this M20 was originally discovered in May, 2006 with no success in reuniting it with the original car. It will be removed from the car shortly.

I have a 1969 Z28 Camaro DZ 302 Engine block for sale. The Zapper 302. It is has one sleave cylinder...big deal.....if you ain't racing it, then it ain't going to go ! Comon..lets be realistic...when do you ever race these engines now adays and when you going to rev it up to 7500 ? It is a standard bore block. Its casting nu.mbers are 3970010. 4 bolt main. The deck number is V0724DZ . The vin number is not stamped on the deck but its on near the oil filter. The number of the vin is 19N687352 . Good hard to find block. How many of these are around.....they go more on ebay now adays !....Please...Serious enquirees only. Thanks

Recently there was a '69 Camaro listed on eBay which was supposedly imported from Germany(sorry I don't have the particlars of the listing). The listing included a close-up picture of the trim tag which varied from non-export use cars in that it was missing the script certifying that vehicle conforms to all federal motor vehicle safely standards. The trim tag was blank in this area.This non standard trim tag detail may be a bit obvious however worth checking out.
