Originality / Re: hood/headliner insulation question-1969 Z28

Jim, I wasn't in the market to replace the insulation so I can't speak to what's available beyond the well known Dynamat / Hushmat type products.

I just finished reviewing the Brooklyn project.  Amazing detail for restoring every major part of the Camaro, and for Lloyd to take the time to document, photograph, and post all of it for others to share is truly exceptional.  Thanks for sending.

Thanks John, glad you enjoyed the build thread. Just added some new material.

Doc, I used the small parts you listed earlier this year during the restoration of my 69 Z seats. They are well constructed and fit. The "Hinge Cover Fasteners" (buttons) are painted the same as the seat hinges if you want them to follow the originals. I used Argent Silver which was a good match.

Restoration / Re: Need a source for high quality reproduction glass

Deron, after researching the topic in some depth together with positive testimonial of other customers who I know, I purchased replacement glass directly from Auto City Classic a few months ago for my 1969 Z/28 project. Domestic manufacturing of classic car replacement glass ended when Pilkington discontinued its production a few years ago. Its now all off-shore and the glass I received from ACGCwas made in Taiwan. When comparing the replacement glass with factory installed original glass, I found the replacement was nominally thinner and the shape is not exact - but close. The off-dimensions didn't interfere with installation or general fitment which was good. You may want to reach to Auto City directly as I found them easy to work with and responsive.

Restoration / Re: 1969 Rally Sport Door Blackout

Thanks Lloyd!

Did you get the screw thru AMK Products or a different supplier?

Do happen to have the item number for the screws?

Dave, I don't recall where I got the screws but the parts suppliers all sell them clear (silver) zinc plated (from what I've seen). If you do your own phosphating the screws will need to be treated in hydrochloric or muriatic acid to dissolve the plating before they can be phosphated.

Lloyd,

You car is looking very nice.

Question: Are the screws that attach your grill stiffener chrome or black oxide finish? Per the ‘69 Camaro Legends Judge manual, the screws were black oxide. That seams odd but would like to confirm this on a survivor and/or unrestored car.
Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave, the grill stiffener screws should be manganese-phosphate (black), GM generally didn't use black oxide. I've reviewed several survivor cars (RS and non-RS) including my former 10 10 RS/Z (you can see the stiffener screw in the photo in Post #35) and the original retaining screws are always m-p (black).

The headlight door covers on my project have been blackout updated (and headlight doors aligned), thanks to Eddie M and all who contributed to the thread.

James, you may have understated the rising cost of these filters judging by this recent (July 17. 2022) eBay sale:

Originality / Re: Cowl Induction Air Cleaner Paint
« on: June 15, 2022, 02:04:02 PM »
Besides a car that’s painted gloss black, have you ever seen any Camaro part gloss black?

Whenever the restoration guides or judging manuals call out "(100%) gloss black", such as for a heater box cover or air cleaner lid it should be understood that paint chemistry in the 1960's did not produce the same super high gloss that's possible today from even single stage paints. At shows and judged events I've seen perfect, blindingly glossy black painted parts on restored-to-factory-original cars however that high gloss isn't how the paint would have appeared from the factory back then. For "full or 100% gloss black", IMO the range of +/-75%-80% of today's full gloss is more representative of 60's era full gloss.

I located a photo of the headlight door from my former black survivor 69 RS/Z. You can see through the grill that the headlight door cover corners where not painted silver to match the grill.

Thanks for the info guys, so Lloyd yours is early Los with narrow spoiler and shorter rear stripes ??

My Z is a February 69 Norwood build, optioned with the narrow (shorty) spoiler and it received standard Z/28 stripes. As mentioned, (see the link I provided), the '68 stripes were carried over only during early production.

Lloyd , im confuse with the 69 rally stripes on the narrow spoiler , i thought it would be early 68 rally stripes for early 69... Ric

Ric, there is a good thread on the subject: http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=11927.15

Lloyd,

Good questions.  Your restoration looks like it’s coming along nicely!  My ‘69 RS Z28 restoration was initially completed in 2000, but each year I continue to fine tune bits and pieces of the car as I learn more on CRG. I cannot seam to leave “well enough” alone!

Thanks for the feedback and contributing to the thread Dave. The discovery process is endless.
