Lloyd, will be glad to look at mine and give you what I have, information wise. I am not in the country at this time or since you asked. Perhaps later this week you can get the faith back when I get home? Adios amigo

Thanks Bentley - much appreciated and safe travels.

Would sure like some input on this subject. Anyone with original PS?

If you have any original photos of this hardware to post that would be helpful.

Mine would be a good one to look at but I had to use the nut, bolt, & forward spring hanger for the body cart to bolt to. It's at the body shop at the moment. That hdw was absolutely perfect on that car. I have to go there in the morning as they're painting the front clip. I will see if I can see the hdw when I'm there...Joe

Thanks.

Surprisingly few posts on this question. I reached out to "JM" and he stated the bolt, washers and nut should all be manganese phosphate.

Originality / Power Steering Return Hose Script and Clamps
« on: October 23, 2019, 04:28:23 PM »
Looking for input on the correct Saginaw power steering return hose and clamps used in 1969. I have two examples of period-original hoses. When compared it appears the script on both hoses read "P.S. Return DDD-Y" where, I'm assuming, DDD represents the Julian date and the Y is the year of manufacture. If that assumption is correct the examples below would appear to be dated April 21, 1970 and August 25, 1970. Although not Gen1 hoses I was told the script would be the same for 1969? The power steering box side hose fitting was attached to one of the hoses with a pinch clamp which is correct for Gen2 Camaros for both ends of the return hose. Gen1s used Wittek screw clamps or possibly one Wittek screw clamp and one pinch clamp? Input would be appreciated.

Original PS return hose dated April 21, 1970

Another example apparently dated August 25, 1970

Restoration / Re: 69 camaro rear bumper guard

I wonder if the fit depends on the relative angle of the rear bumper? In most pictures where the fit is poor, it looks as though it would be improved if the entire bumper was rotated slightly inwards at the top, towards the tailpan......

...LOL, then instead we'd be talking about bumpers that weren't installed in the right clock position at the factory!

I just came across a photo of my former '69 10 10 RS/Z survivor that was taken by James G (firstgenaddict) about the time the car was found following almost 2 decades of storage. The photo could be clearer and the lighting is not great but it does appear the eye bolt's nut and washers were zinc plated. Another clue is the full surface rust present on the surrounding fasteners that are known to be phosphated

I have GM NOS rear guards/pads and an original '69 bumper that has been rechromed.  The fit is tight as it should be.

If you see poor fitting rear guards they are probably repro.  I tried the repro guards and the fit on the bumper was horrible.  They were also heavier/thicker than original GM.

Photos of Skip L's 9D Norwood 20K mile Z survivor and my (former) 4C Norwood RS/Z survivor both with ill fitting rear bumper guards.

Thanks Jim, on re-read I now realize you were commenting on the finishes for the axle U bolts and nuts.

329
Thanks for posting photos and other references. Seems to be inconclusive regarding the finish on the nut - phosphate or zinc? Jim you stated: "Heavy-Duty Lock Nut, Grade C SAE (Fine) Thread - Nuts - Nuts - Fasteners & Hardware Zinc plated, silver finish", where did you source this information?
