Decoding/Numbers / Re: Fan spacer for '69 V8s

No, I've never looked for a 793 so I don't know how difficult it is to find one.

The one for my car is a 3857042.

Originality / Re: Alternator brackets 1st and 2nd Gen ? ?

The upper left bracket on the top photo is 6 cylinder lower alternator bracket. The upper right bracket on the top photo is short water pump small block V8 lower alternator bracket (i.e 67-68).

The lower steel brackets in the top photo look like brackets used when you install headers.

Jeff, what is your carburetor part number? I have a couple 68 parts carbs here if it's a 68.

I was lucky to find the correct fan spacer for my 68 L35 at a swap meet years ago. Not an easy piece to find.

Yes, you're correct, those engines don't use fixed fans and therefore don't use a fan spacer.

According to the Assembly Manual, 3927792 is correct for V8s. What is the length of your spacer? The '792 is 1 inch long.

I think what John meant was they used an engine coded for a Powerglide car, not a manual trans car.

The 5 blade fans I have taken off 68 full size cars had 4 flat rivets.

I took one off a 68 Chevelle 2-BBL engine built in Tonawanda years ago. It was stamped ENGINE OIL FILL AC-FC60.

Hope this helps.

They're weathered but look like black oxide finish. They are also grade 5 with the three dash markings at 120 degrees apart.

I have some but don't know exactly what car they came off. They were with the special nuts. Regular bolt head, lock washer, TR head markings, 7/8" long.

You mention smog. Not all Z28's had smog in 67. California sold cars might have been the only ones. So build it without smog. If you started with a NOR body it wouldn't have smog.

DZ was for 69 Z/28 only.

6-cylinder Camaros / Re: 1968 A.I.R Smog Pump Part Number
« on: March 22, 2010, 04:46:57 AM »
The problem with the part number from the A.I.M. is that it is not on the finished pump.

I can tell you that the correct pump has the rear cast piece that I previously mentioned. It has a casting date, julian date only without the year. The 4 bolts that hold the rear cast piece to the aluminum body have WB head markings for 68 pumps. The date code format is jjjy1Z where jjj is the julian date of assembly and the y is the year of assembly (7 or 8). I'm not sure what else I can add to this. 7802609 is what is in the A.I.M. for the L6 and standard V-8.
