Sorry I don't know the answer either. I don't even remember seeing one of those pulleys.

I looked through my stuff and only found one that looks like the 3-speed lever.

Sorry. Martin

Is it the lever attached to the transmission that the rod goes into?

I have a jack base exactly like that one that I found in a 67 LOS Camaro years ago at a salvage yard. I didn't note the VIN or other data.

The extra threaded boss is for 69 and up. There is a bracket that bolts to it that isn't part of the 68 and earlier alternator brackets.

I have several 1100794 alternators and none have an ink stamp on them. Did they have ink stamps in 68?

Mild Modifications / Re: 69 Camaro Auto Trans Swap

The '429 tail housing on the Muncie trans has the speedo on the driver's side and I think you could use the same speedo cable as the auto trans.

Joe, the smog pump adjuster brace for 67 and 68 are very similar. The bend in the brace (see Charley's photo) is close to the adjusting slot on the 67 and the 68 is about 2.5" from the slot. I have several 67's but only my reference 68. I'll keep an eye open for one if I go to swap meets. I can take some photos of the braces if you're interested.

Vic, I found an extra clip in one of my parts boxes today. If you're interested send me an email.

Originality / Re: Single groove L34 water pump pulley
« on: December 12, 2010, 03:39:09 AM »
I put the pulley report together many years ago. The 68 AM has errors in it and the pulley report was an attempt to identify the correct pulleys. The smog information was not known at that time. I have had most of these pulleys in the past and I still have some in a box.

The C60 crank pulley is larger and the water pump pulley that goes with it is smaller.

There is a single groove BB short water pump pulley but I don't think it was used in 68, only 67.

I think the 3905995 water pump pulley's without the ribs were used in earlier years (mid-60's).

I hope this helps answer some questions.

OK, I got the 6-cylinder pump out of the shed and my V8 pump out of the garage. The 6-cylinder pump has a stamp that looks like 0 4 9. The bottom of the characters is very light if there at all. The V8 pump took some very fine steel wool and I found a complete 8 with a possible character before it. The stamping is upside down when looking at it from the side. The pump in my car is too hard to read.

The location on both is on the engine side at about 10 o'clock. Set the pump in front of you with the pully facing you. Then look at the housing on the left side between the upper bolt hole in the cast iron housing and the top inlet.

I've heard that you need to turn the wheels to bleed the air out. I did that so long ago I can't remember much but I think I did it a couple times and didn't have a problem. To rebuild it, there are instructions in the Overhaul Manual or just take the 2 rear studs and 1 fitting out and the housing should come off. The cast piece has an O-ring and there are other gaskets where the studs are. I bought rebuild kits years ago from a parts vendor, I think they used to be around $12. Make sure the housing isn't distorted (it needs to be round) or it will leak.

I hope this helps.

Ed, it's been a long time and I can't remember which side but it was about half way down from the top. I recently sold a rebuilt pump and all I have left is the one in my car and one other that has thicker paint and some surface rust. I'll try to clean that one up tomorrow and see what I find. I will also try to find it on the one in my car but that might be tough.

I have a 6-cylinder pump off a 69 Nova I can look at tomorrow.

I have had a few of these pumps and most had a date code stamped in the housing. Sometimes it's faint. I can't remember what the format was. I'll look for some old notes.

Rebuilding them is easy, just remove a couple bolts and replace some rubber gaskets.

I'm not a legends judge but the 68's I found in yards years ago had the 293 BR coil. And the 69's in the yards had 293 B-R.

I used Mobil 1 Synthetic Universal Grease when I rebuilt mine. It's rated to 450F.
