Restoration / Re: Repro ZL2 set-up
« on: November 01, 2007, 01:19:34 AM »
Steves, here is my original comparison post on the ZL2 setup, it was redone with my permission in one of the Chevy Punch editions. Basically the breather tube and bottom ridge are the give aways.

General Discussion / Re: 1969 L-78 convertible
« on: September 23, 2007, 11:39:44 AM »
Guys,
Thanks for the input and advice.  The only attractive part about the car is that it has the original block with the VIN clearly stamped on it.  It also has the correct dated and coded 12 bolt.  It is a 4-speed, hugger orange, with black top, white stripe, and white interior.  What a great looking car that must have been out of the factory!!  It needs all new sheet metal except that it has already had new floors installed.  I'm leaning toward passing on the car as he wants $45K as it is.  It easily needs $40-50K to get it to #2.

With a black top, it would have had a black stripe.

Originality / Re: Seat belt date code
« on: August 27, 2007, 05:43:01 PM »
Sam, Do a search over on Team Camaro.  www.camaros.net/forums  Basically the first number is the week, middle letter is the plant code (best guess, Irvins is an A) last number is the year the belt was put together.  For a Jan car, belts are about a month back, so around 48A68 to 2A69 would work.

802
Steve, I was hoping to put together a full set to sell from my extras, but another drivers side rear would give me 3 of them, too many.  Do you have an extra driver front?

803
Steve, OK, I have 2 sets of extra rears.  One set should be able to be cleaned and polished to get close to match the NOS ones you bought.  The 2nd set is straight and good on the outside, but the inner edges show some wear (stones?)  the inner edge where it screws in has 1/8 in deep wear.  Hard to explain.  Ideally, I would like to get a set of good original fronts so I can sell one good full set of originals.   But we can talk.

804
Steve, I will look at what I have, I cant remeber what spare I have.  Where are you located?

805
Steve, did you ever get the pass rear ones?  I might be able to help, there not NOS, but originals

Mild Modifications / Re: rear seat belts
« on: August 14, 2007, 11:29:37 AM »
They used to sell seats that had the harness built into the kid seat,  Then you can just use the lap belt.  I think the factory rear sholder belts mounted to the trunk support (looong belt) :)

Decoding/Numbers / Re: 69 Camaro Early Car Fisher body code
« on: August 12, 2007, 09:36:59 PM »
Dave and I took the back seat out and looked at the code.  No extra numbers and the dash is about 1.5 inches long and horizontal, so it is not part of a number.  On convertibles there is bunch of adhesive for the well liner that is put on over top of the markings, so it is very tough to see.  Dave, try a shoplight in the interior and take the pic without the flash, that might work.

Here is a pic of my early x11 convert to show the problem.  There is no dash between the X and the 1 that I can see.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: Rally Wheel Codes
« on: August 04, 2007, 12:00:29 PM »
Tim, after the early 70s (maybe from 70 on), the year code changed to 2 digits.  so 89 is the year.

Restoration / Re: Where to find intake manifold
« on: August 04, 2007, 12:35:36 AM »
I took a look at my books and since the oval port 427 was not avail on 69 camaros, the closest one is the 396/325-350 hp manifold which also came on passenger car 427/390s.  it is 3931067.

the closest looking intake is this one

you could email seller for the casting number.

Not sure what numbers or date codes you are looking for, but keep checking.  I did a search for 396 intake.
