Restoration / Re: How to repair plastic/vinyl air dam
« on: April 19, 2011, 11:32:22 AM »
Those parts should be an ABS plastic, I would not recommend a fiberglas product.  Fiberglass resin is stiff, ABS is piable.  The resin will crack when the ABS starts to flex.  The best choice of action is to use ABS repair.  you can use doner ABS panels (from modern cars, like wheelwell liners) for replacing missing areas. Read up on plastic welding (like this site http://www.plasticweldingandtools.com/)  You need to correctly identify the plastic and use filler rods of the same material (just trim some thin shards off doner parts) and use soldering iron to soften the fillers. There are some you-tube videos on plastic welding.  Luck!

Yes, but how do you get paint to stick to the exhaust crossover ports! :D Mine are already plugged internally and externally.

General Discussion / Re: Fold Down Rear Seat

Other than the cost?  none that I see.  For verts it has an added bonus!  When carting around those pagent girls with their high heels, they can rest them on the folded down seat back instead of the vinyl :D

it fits a LOT better than a coupe because the arm rests are already there! :) Make sure you get all the parts!  welded floor brackets, back fiberboard panel and welded metal channel, Arm rests and filler panels, the latch, bumpers and bumper plate (screwed on the body) and the two seats of course.  the coupe backer panel is a little shorter that a verts, but since you have to weld in the channel, you can make it work. the vert panel is not reproed AFAIK.

Very good info, but I have a question about the argent paint, was this done on only RS lights or all models? I have a box of old lens and most of them have a trace of this paint (no trim rings).

All, Ricks is now carrying a Platinum version of the 69 Standard door panel.  Reviews are good that it very closely matches the original GM panels.  bc69, use Fusion satin black.  When sprayed properly, it has the correct gloss.  I have used it on my seat backs, kick panels and the pebble part of the dash cluster.  Works great!  (ps my console was in great shape, so I did not need to paint it :))

Originality / Re: Heater/Air Box seals
« on: January 31, 2011, 12:19:10 PM »
I ordered the repro heater box seals, very disappointed. Ended up ordering various sheets of sponge neoprene and rubber from mcmaster.  Then made templates and cut them by hand.  Worked out much better.

AMK wants a $30 min order last I looked + ship.

They do, but are you saying you can't find other stuff to order?
Everytime I flick through their catalog, I have a another list as long as my arm! :P

I do have a wish list fo AMK, but then I mostly find what I need in my misc bolt boxes. :)  When I get stuck, i will put in an order :D

I like the Electrical putty because its a dark charcoal, the strip caulk you can get in stores is a beige.  AMK wants a $30 min order last I looked + ship.  HD or Lowes is a lot cheaper (under $10 I think) and I am there a lot anyway :)

I used electrical putty (Dum-Dum) rolled out in a bead to seal the outer cover.  I used the putty (used for sealing wires piercing house walls and sold in lowes, Home depot) in a LOT of places, kick panels, rear bumper mounts, tinnerman nuts, cowl squirter seal, etc.
