Restoration / Re: water pump question
« on: March 28, 2024, 12:22:45 PM »
For an all original Z28, it is always better to keep/rebuild all components like water pumps. An early 69 model year pump like yours are more rare to find, so keep it!

There are some small rebuilders around that can rebuild and return your original pump.  If you have a press, you can do it yourself, but you will need to practice on other pumps and make some special press blocks.

I have rebuilt my pumps using a kit from ebay (northwest supplier) which have worked well.

New pumps will not look the same as your original and have the part number 3953692. Almost everything has a part number and people will look for that to authenticate a Z.  my .02

One other thing, the filters they sell for small blocks today are a different size (smaller in length) then what came on the car originally.  So the oil quantity might not be the same.   A small amount though, for sure :)

Any REAL locksmith can handle this.  I had some original doorlocks re-keyed to match my new IGN switch, I just called a local locksmith and gave him the locks and keys.

I second Don.  I also have an early 69 (oct 68) 327/210.  We worked out a custom black/gold label and it came out well.

Looked at my side bumper stash and found subtle and not so subtle differences.

let me know which letters (A through E) you want more close ups of.  I parted out many 67-69 Camaros, so not sure what I have. Last one E, might be Pontiac?

I also may have original insulation clips, but not sure about repros.

I also could not load the pic.  Says it is too large (it's 12.2KB, well below the 200KB limit) or server too too long to upload.

Your attachment couldn't be saved. This might happen because it took too long to upload or the file is bigger than the server will allow.

KevinW,

Interesting info on your 06? Camaro!  Is your trim tag stamped 05A and should I correct this in the list?

Dave
Dave, yes trim tag is stamped 05A. it's up to you how you want to place it in the list.  It's kinda the same as the stuck convertible Norwood 06A trim tag error, which based on VINs were produced for the whole month of June. :)

Lloyd, thanks for the bolt on snubber pic.  Now I check to see I have the correct bolts!

Jonesy, my VN car on the list is stamped 05A, but based on the CRG VIN research, when VN restarted after the strike in mid june, my car was around the 100 built with leftover parts. I think VN finished up the 'parts' cars in mid July 69.

Which might be why it came with a bolt on snubber.  Random parts pulled from the bins just to get the cars out the door.

My Norwood car is 10B of 68, 327 10 bolt auto.  No threads are cut in bracket holes.

I had a shop rebuild mine and added 3.55s, but next time I want to try it myself.  With 3.55s the power glide is better.  But I replaced the PG with a 200r4, but I wished I would have went with 3.73s with the 200r4 (if still avail?) Luck!

Yes, that is correct.  I know we discussed the finer details on how to paint RS door components with Lloyd for his Z, but I cannot find that now of course. :(
