It sounds like a 67 or 68 engine.  What is the casting number and the casting date of the block?

In NHRA stock eliminator, there are first gen Z/28's running deep into the 10's.
Ben Wenzel Sr.             D/S  10.732
That was what Ben ran in qualifying at the U.S. Nationals this year in his 1967 Z/28.

I don't know what you are reading that says all SS's are big blocks but it is wrong.  It appears that the drivetrain you have listed is correct for a ss 350 car.  It would have had a quadrajet.  What are some casting numbers as well as the cowl tag numbers?  It would have come with a full size spare.

A Z/28 had a muncie in 1967 as well.

It looks like a very early transmission for the 1970 model year.  There should be a partial vin stamped on the transmission as well and there should be a letter stamped at the end of that date (A, B or C).

1967 camaros didn't have drum brake rally's but other cars did.  That is why they have the center caps with "Chevrolet Motor Division" only.

I don't believe 67 camaros had rally wheels for drum brake cars.

The 96 style 302 pistons can be used with the pressed pin rods.  I would say that is what you have if it is a 302.  Do the pistons have the grooves in them where the keepers go for the wrist pin?

The 67 302 was small journal but the 68 was large journal.

The crank should bolt in the block ok but you would have to get some custom pistons or shorter rods to compensate for the difference in stroke.

Richmond and perhaps other gear manufacturers make a 3.73 ring and pinion the is for use on the 4 series carrier.

Most of the VIN #'s I have seen stamped have either been near the "P" code or on top of the transmission near where the bellhousing bolts on.

The build date is P7P21 and that matches the vin for a camaro as far as the date is concerned.

Any records of this car?  I have found the muncie for the car and would like to reunite the two.

looks to be an early production (9D = 4th week Sept) and with the "1" preceeding the body number I believe it was made in 68.

It would have to be a late production car, The X codes weren't being used in September 1968.

Metal seatbacks would be correct for your car.
